- Festival achiever: already his first festival films Penalty of Justice (2013), Mother. In the Name of the Millions (2014) by mid 2016 were selected to around 50 film festivals, mainly international.
- Borsch: traditionally treats his crew with borsch, a favorite Pavarotti meal and known traditional Ukrainian soup (could be seen in some of his films as Sanctuarium (2014)).
- Official and nick names: born as Vyacheslav Stepanovych Bihun. The old Slavic name Vyacheslav means great fame. Stepanovych refers to his father's first name whose name is Stepan. And Bihun is his family name which means runner in Ukrainian. Best known by his nick name Slavik Bihun.
- Grass-rooted: when the film school rejected him an tuition reduction and moved to exmatriculate him, his closest friends collected money for him to graduate and finalize his film work.
- Doctor of Law: holds a PhD in philosophy of law from the most prestigious legal research institute in Ukraine. Did a postdoc at the Heidelberg University. Several of his films relate to the topic of law, lawyers and justice (for example, Penalty of Justice (2013), Ukraine on Trial, Between Hell and Paradise (2017)).
- Established jurist: he has been a law activist (presiding over leading law student and lawyer unions), worked as a legal scholar at a leading legal research institute and a human rights lawyer at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
- Multiethnic origin: born in the Ukraine's Soviet times in Transcarpathia, perhaps the most ethnically diverse region in nowadays' Ukraine. Has traceable Hungarian and Rusyn roots. 'Rusyn' is an ancient title for Ukrainians (The parents of Andy Warhol, originally Andrew Worhola, were also Rusyns, coming from Transcarpathia).
- Prolific filmmaker: reportedly perhaps the most prolific Ukrainian filmmaker in 2014-2016, producing and directing at least 3 films a year (according the film catalogues published by the Ukrainian State Film Agency).
- Small-town kid: grew up in a small town called Tyachiv in Transcarpathia (for example, depicted in film Angel Town (2015)) and spent most of his summers in his grandparents' village of Okruhla (Marusia (2016)). Several of his early shorts feature characters from small towns.

- Follows the tradition: studied at a film school under the supervision of Peeter Simm whose supervisor was Andrei Tarkovsky, who in turn noted Aleksandr Dovzhenko as one of his foremost influences. Paid tribute to Tarkovsky in his short film essay A Letter to Tarkovsky (2016) and to Dovzhenko in his documentary Dovzhenko. - On 12 June 2018 Ukrainian film director Vyacheslav (Slavik) Bihun became the first film director who started a hunger strike in solidarity with film director Oleg Sentsov and other Kremlin prisoners from Ukraine.
