Writer/Director Nick Cassavetes channels the same grit of Alpha Dog for his latest, God Is a Bullet, adapted from Boston Teran‘s based-on-true-events best-selling novel. Only this time, the filmmaker doubles down on the bone-shattering violence… and the runtime. God Is a Bullet uses the sleazy criminal world, a talented pair of leads, and visceral violence to offset a straightforward narrative.
Bob Hightower (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) lives a simple life in an affluent suburban town. He’s a desk cop and a doting dad who still has a close relationship with his ex-wife. That changes when Bob finds his ex-wife brutally murdered and his teen daughter kidnapped by an insidious, satanic cult. The only lead to finding them comes from Case Hardin (Maika Monroe), a former cult member turned escapee. Case sees Bob’s predicament as a chance for closure, particularly when sparing his daughter from her fate. The pair...

Adapted from the author’s 1999 debut novel, “God Is A Bullet” is the first screen translation of a work by one Boston Teran, a prolific but pseudononymous scribe of popular page-turners. Those tomes have been well-received by thriller fans, though others have speculated they might be a genre put-on penned by possibly more than one well-known literary figure. Nick Cassavetes’ slick adaptation certainly maintains the book’s mix of lurid incident and pontificating pretentiousness — albeit without the kind of intensity that might have made this far-fetched story credible, or the atmospheric style that might’ve pulled it off as a fevered nightmare à la David Lynch instead.
These 156 minutes, with cop Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and escaped captive Maika Monroe pursuing the cult of devil-worshipping scumbags who’ve kidnapped his daughter, are not exactly dull. But they are rather ludicrous, without being much fun. It’s hard not to imagine this overlong,...

Of course the series finale of Manifest ends on the Death Date – as it should. Morning arrives as Netflix’s Manifest season four episode 20, “Final Boarding,” begins with the Stones and their friends still at their Storm King Mountain campsite. The fissure is pulsating blue, and Olive (Luna Blaise) can still feel her brother even if he’s not there.
Suddenly, the ground shakes and they realize they’re not out of the woods yet.
As Olive and Tj (Garrett Wareing) chase after Eden, they discover a rock near where Michaela and Ben’s initials are carved into a tree. The rock has an engraving that matches the volcano on the World card but with the added touch of the scales of justice carved into the rock’s surface.
Ben (Josh Dallas) realizes the fate of the world hangs in the balance, and the inscription underneath isn’t legible. (Someone’s graffitied over it.

The penultimate episode of Netflix’s Manifest begins with a flashback to Ben and Michaela as kids. Season four episode 19 reveals that as kids, they made a deal not to compete and instead to be equals, with their mom insisting that as co-captains they’ll be stronger together.
Current events find Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) and Ben (Josh Dallas) sharing a brief moment of sibling bonding, with Michaela teasing her big brother about the smell of perfume clinging to his clothes. It’s one day until the Death Date, and Ben’s been trying to keep the 828ers calm, assuring them it’s not over until it’s over.

Jared and Michaela are reigniting their relationship and enjoying life away from the detention center as Netflix’s Manifest season four episode 16 opens. With Michaela’s dad resting peacefully upstairs, the couple get to know each other’s naked bodies once again.
The following morning, Jared (J.R. Ramirez) returns from grocery shopping with plenty of supplies to make grilled cheese – one of Michaela’s favorites – and wonders how long they need to remain hidden. The detention center must be tracking Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh), so they can’t even make any phone calls.
Back at the detention center, Ben (Josh Dallas) is convinced everyone’s going to die, and it’s all his fault. He accidentally stopped the 828ers from receiving callings once he injected Angelina with Saanvi’s serum. Vance (Daryl Edwards) insists Ben had no way of knowing the callings would disappear.

Bill Daly’s blood has apparently turned the Hudson River red outside of the 828 detention center as Netflix’s Manifest season four episode 15 opens. The mood among NY citizens is darkening with this new development, and more people are turning against the 828ers since they appear to be the cause of multiple plagues.
The passengers holed up in the safe house wonder if they need to find a new place to hide out. Co-captain Daniel Amuta (Leajato Amara Robinson) is in charge, and he orders his fellow 828ers to get ready to hunker down. “The city’s a powder keg,” says Amuta.
Ben (Josh Dallas) is certain that having Angelina locked up at the center is a horrible idea. He suggests that Director Zimmer consider using Saanvi’s calling-suppressing serum on Angelina, but Zimmer claims that holding Angelina in isolation is enough.

“Manifest” has been canceled at NBC after three seasons, Variety has confirmed.
The news comes as the supernatural drama has been released on Netflix, where it currently sits at No. 1 in the streamer’s U.S. Top 10. However, sources tell Variety that the show is hoping to find a new home elsewhere.
The single-camera series had generally produced favorable ratings, particularly in its first season, during which three additional episodes were added.
“Manifest,” produced by Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, was created by Jeff Rake and originally sold as a six-season plan. The series premiered in September 2018 and follows the crew and passengers of a commercial plane who suddenly reappear after being presumed dead for five years. As they reintegrate into society, the passengers discover that their family members and friends are not the same as before — and neither are they, as the begin to experience visions of the future,...

Soon into its second season, NBC’s Manifest not only switched things up by giving Grace callings, it introduced several new faces that could change the Stones’ lives for the better… or possibly for the worse.
For one, Michaela has been assigned a new partner at the NYPD, a development that she warmly embraced. “Jared was the love of her life, but he’s starting to cross lines that Mick can’t handle right now,” Melissa Roxburgh tells TVLine. “He’s not giving her the space to figure out her life and what happened to the plane, so she has to distance herself from that.

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
Legacies is adding another new addition to its ranks for Season 2.
Deadline is reporting that The Fosters veteran Bianca Santos has been added in a recurring capacity.
She will play a "sharp-tongued and flirtatious” Mystic Falls High School student named Maya.
She will be the daughter of the new Sheriff in town, who goes by the name of Mac. There's no telling what became of Matt Donovan, but given that he's survived every deadly scenario in Mystic Falls, he may be off taking some much-needed respite.
Related: Legacies Adds Thomas Doherty
Maya also has a brother named Ethan, so there's that.
The good news here is that it sounds like we'll be spending more time in the town as opposed to just the high school setting.
Alexis Denisof and Thomas Doherty were previously added to the Season 2 cast.

"You need to open up yourself to complete reprogramming."
I’ve got a trailer here for a cool-looking experimental retro-style sci-fi thriller called Perfect. The film comes from executive producer Steven Soderbergh and the story follows a young man who enters a mysterious genetic-engineering clinic where he will discover that perfection will cost him more than he bargained for.
The film stars Garrett Wareing as “an emotionally-troubled young man. His mother (Abbie Cornish) sends him to a clinic, where modernist serenity whispers soothing promises of perfection. By planting plug-and-play characteristics directly into his own body, he is relieved of his dark, twisted visions, but his body pays the price for purity of mind.”
The movie looks like a crazy, psychedelic, mesmerizing, movie that has a stylish visual noir tone. The movie will hit theaters on June 21st. Check out the trailer and hit us up with your thoughts.

"You need to open up yourself to complete reprogramming." Breaker has debuted the second official trailer for a trippy indie sci-fi thriller titled Perfect, which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year (watch the first trailer). This experimental, retro-ish sci-fi project is about a boy who goes to a mysterious genetic-engineering clinic, only to discover the price of perfection will cost him everything, including his mind, body and his soul. Garrett Wareing stars as the boy, Vessel 13, with Abbie Cornish, Courtney Eaton, Tao Okamoto, Martin Sensmeier, Leonardo Nam, Alicia Sanz, and Maurice Compte. This is executive produced and presented by Steven Soderbergh, directed by Eddie Alcazar, featuring music by Flying Lotus. A trippy take on genetic engineering, Perfect is a mind-altering film that, depending on the viewer’s sensibilities, will either be an expressionist gem or a hollow exercise in style over substance. Taking place at what could either be a high-tech health spa or the future of the penal system, the film begins as a young man known as Vessel 13 (Garrett Wareing) is urged to this facility by his mother (Abbie Cornish). She’s been there before, opening a whole host of possibilities as liberties are taken visually and spiritually in the name of creating an origin story for Vessel 13 as mother projects her hopes and dreams onto her perfect son. Those looking for a traditional narrative ought to look elsewhere; Perfect is a gruesome, yet occasionally gorgeous high-tech take on Last Year at Marienbad with depth, I fear, that is only skin deep.

Perfect is a phantasmagoric nightmare built upon psychedelic imagery and wild ideas. Playing out like a mind-fried riff on Altered States, this ambitious film is as impressive as it is confounding. After a teenager (Garrett Wareing) commits a horrible crime, his mother (Abbie Cornish) sends him off to a luxurious new age retreat. While holed up in this place full of strange people and intelligent machines, the boy undergoes an experimental therapy in order to cure his ills and discover his true self. Perfect is a natural progression from director Eddie Alcazar and Flying Lotus' short Fuckkkyouuu! That film married surreal and grotesque imagery with electronic soundscapes to disturbing effect. Perfect takes this approach, scales it up to feature length and dials everything to the...

A hallucinatory extrapolation of current trends in cosmetic enhancement, Eddie Alcazar's Perfect goes to an exclusive retreat where, perhaps, even the stain of murder might be smoothed away like a patch of rough skin. The kind of ambitious, hyperstylized sci-fi that tends to be either hailed as visionary or dismissed entirely, it will likely benefit from the support of executive producer Steven Soderbergh, though that needle-tipping effect may not mean much in commercial terms.

A trailer for Eddie Alcazar's Perfect was released earlier this week. The film is a sci-fi thriller, in which a young man is seduced by advertisements and surgical implants. And, the visually stunning trailer is hosted below. As well, a movie poster has been released for Perfect. It shows the main character, Vessel 13 (Garrett Wareing), distorted in colour and shape. The strange look likely represents the main character's distorted view of himself. After his implants are installed, his reality is also altered. This is Alcazar's first feature film. The first trailer has been released for the Steven Soderbergh-produced sci-fi film Perfect. The movie was directed by Eddie Alcazar (Fuckkkyouuu) and it tells the fascinating story of a young man with a violent past who enters a mysterious clinic where genetic engineering is used to radically transform the bodies and minds of its patients. The film is being scored by Flying Lotus and this is the synopsis:
A boy in a cold and stark modern house, in a vaguely science fictional world, is seduced by advertisements of perfection to install implantable characteristics directly into his body. The implants heal his dark, twisted visions, but come with a corporeal cost. He persists on applying them, hoping to reach perfection, but ultimately he discovers that purity of mind is not exactly as he’s imagined.
