Kabosu, the Shiba Inu who became an internet sensation as the doge meme, has passed away at the age of 18, according to owner Atsuko Sato.
Kabosu was one of the most recognizable and frequently used memes running. Stemming from a 2010 photo, the side-eyed look would become the symbol of “amaze” and “wow”, accentuated with multi-colored Comic Sans. Even though Kabosu was diagnosed with cancer in 2022, she surpassed the average lifespan of a Shiba Inu.
In her announcement, Atusko Sato wrote the following: “To all of you who loved Kabosu, On the morning of the 24th of May, Kabosu crossed the rainbow bridge. Thank you all so much for your support over the years. She went very peacefully without suffering, as if falling asleep while feeling the warmth of my hands petting her. Thank you all so much for loving Kabosu all these years. I am certain that Kabosu was the happiest dog in the world.

Grumpy Cat, the Internet's most popular cat and one of its first viral memes, has died at age seven, her family announced on Friday.
The furry sensation's family announced her death on Twitter, saying: "We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat," the CNN quoted Tabatha Bundesen, Grumpy Cat's owner, as saying.
"Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome. She passed away peacefully on May 14.
"Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world - even when times were tough. Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere," Bundesen, who lives in Morristown Arizona, wrote.
Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, had feline dwarfism. This, her owners said, probably accounted for her distinctive facial features and small size.

For those who are curious, the real cat is a mixed breed named Tardar Sauce, who belongs to a woman named Tabatha Bundesen. However, she has a constant expression of grumpiness because of her feline dwarfism, which has resulted in a squashed face as well as the bubble eyes. Grumpy Cat's moment in the cultural zeitgeist peaked at some point in 2012, but the famously dour feline is back in the news thanks to a litigious action undertaken by her owner. Tabitha Bundesen, who has built a Grumpy Cat business based around her pet, has been awarded $710,001 in damages after alleging a California beverage company overstepped the boundaries of a licensing agreement.
In 2013, Bundesen's company, Grumpy Cat Limited, struck a pact with the Grenade beverage company in order to sell an iced coffee drink called Grumpy Cat Grumpuccino, The Washington Post reports. Two years later, without Bundesen's permission, Grenade launched a Grumpy Cat Roasted Coffee Line, which led the aggrieved cat owner to file a lawsuit. In an 2016 countersuit, Grenade claimed that Grumpy Cat Limited did not hold up its end of the original bargain and "refused to provide any continuing support whatsoever."

At a time when the world is changing at an unquantifiable pace, when menacing world powers threaten everything we hold dear, we often look to the movies to bring the chaos into focus. In 2017, even the best escapism came with a dose of harsh truths about struggles facing civilization today, and the best movies went to places woefully ignored by the culture at large. When the mood of the moment is #resist and the future often looks more like a fake-news frenzy than the audacity of hope, the resilience of this art form is in sync with the zeitgeist.

James Bowen's best-selling memoir becomes a charming film. Here's our review of the cat-laden A Streetcat Named Bob...
Cats are an endless source of public fascination, from infinite YouTube videos to the meteoric rise of Grumpy Cat, moggies are affectionately ingrained in global culture. Felines barking counterparts are the subject of many household films, yet cats are seemingly lagging behind when it comes to cinematic representation, a feat which A Street Cat Named Bob charmingly attempts to correct. Adapted from former busker James Bowen’s bestselling memoir (which spent 76 weeks in the UK’s Top 10 bestseller list, together with 30 language translations) A Street Cat Named Bob is a beguiling and transformative tale of feline friendship.
Haggard recovering heroin addict James (The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time’s Luke Treadaway) is trapped in a destitute cycle of homelessness and meagre vagrancy on the unforgiving streets of a perpetually sodden London.

Human celebrities are turning up in some pretty impressive costumes this year, but they will never beat the fluffy and famous.
There is such an overwhelming, unbeatable level of inherent cuteness in an animal dressed up in a costume, it’s almost unfair to everyone else.
Like their Homo sapien cohorts, our favorite famous pets are all over Instagram modeling their most chic Halloween ensembles.
Instead of getting down about how these four-legged stars can make even the most basic outfits look good, revel in the fact that we as a society have progressed so far that mass market pet costumes are a reality.

Grumpy Cat was a thing 3 years ago, but most people thought by now the cat with "issues" was probably in the great litter box in the sky ... not so, she's on Broadway. Grumpy was held front and center Friday night at the Neil Simon Theater during a performance of "Cats." As shocking as G.C.'s status ... "Cats" is still on Broadway. Read more...

Grumpy Cat makes her first visit to Disney Channel on new sitcom “Bizaardvark,” but at least one person is less than impressed. In an exclusive clip from a new episode, the famous internet cat takes a meeting with 12-year-old agent Bernie (Ethan Wacker), who’s looking for new animal actor clients, but he just doesn’t get the hype. “I just don’t see it,” he says, eyeing down the perennially frowning feline. “Listen kid, let me give you some advice: Cheer up! The world wants to laugh. Now get out of my office.” Also Read: Grumpy Cat Claws Her...

Internet sensation Grumpy Cat will claw her way into the new Broadway revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s musical “Cats,” producers announced Thursday. Fear not — R&B sensation Leona Lewis will still be belting out “Memory” as Grizibella. But Grumpy Cat will make a cameo during the curtain call on Friday, September 30, at the Neil Simon Theatre. “Being selected as the first real cat to perform in ‘Cats’ on Broadway is an honor. I hate it,” Grumpy Cat in a statement scratched out by one of her handlers. “If I’m really being honest, I’d prefer to play the Phantom in ‘The Phantom.

It was only a matter of time. First, “Netflix and chill” entered the internet lexicon. Then, it entered the Irl lexicon, forcing us to explain to our parents that Netflix and chilling is actually just fucking. The meme grew until it wasn’t even a meme anymore, just an actual term in the casual-hookup culture dictionary. So it was only a matter of time before Hollywood borrowed the term. Television loves a good meme shoutout. Black-ish referenced “what are thooooooose,” and even Jane The Virgin got in on the “Damn, Daniel” action.
But basing an entire movie on a meme? That’s somewhat new and somewhat insane, and yet the folks at Umami Media and Cinecrowd are determined to make a film based on “Netflix and chill.” According to the official press release, it’s the “first movie based on an internet meme,” which is extremely disrespectful to Grumpy Cat...

It's 10 years since Samuel L Jackson had enough of those muddyfunsting snakes on that Monday to Friday plane....
Can you remember where you were when you first heard the title Snakes On A Plane? Try and put yourself back in that mindset for a moment. It’s tough, sitting here in 2016, to remember how outrageous it seemed. After all, we live in a world where a movie called Sharknado not only exists, but has three sequels, the most recent of which even has a Star Wars joke for a subtitle (The 4th Awakens). Fan fantasy concepts like 'Batman vs Superman' have been turned into $250 million movies. I mean, there’s even a Grumpy Cat film. Nowadays, if something goes viral online, there’s a very good chance Hollywood will shell out for the movie rights.

Olympic memes are a beautiful thing. Forget all of his gold medals and many accomplishments; Michael Phelps won our hearts when he accidentally became a meme. His facial expression, which resembles that of Grumpy Cat, came to be as he waited patiently for his event the other day. The moment brought on the hashtag "#PhelpsFace," and a million memes to follow. Let's not forget when the 2012 Olympics gave us McKayla Maroney and her "not impressed" meme, either. It's a pic, so iconic, meme enthusiasts still use it today. Thank you, McKayla. The latest meme to join the ranks of McKayla and Michael? "Smiling Usain Bolt" blessed the Internet thanks to Getty Images photographer...

Five pints (all between 5% and 7% Abv). One tequila-heavy Margarita. An entire flask of Tito’s Vodka. These are the things I consumed before/during Nine Lives, and I’m still not remotely drunk enough* to comprehend the made-for-Disney mindlessness that is Barry Sonnenfeld’s latest cat-tastrophy.
“But Matt, how can you deny the fuzzy-wuzzy charms of a Lil’ Bub cameo, coupled with Kevin Spacey’s aggravated voice acting!?” Well, it’s pretty G-d damn easy when you’re talking about a body-switch comedy sans any sort of ambitious humor, performance charisma or inherent weirdness. And what the f$&@ is a Lil’ Bub and why should I care? Congratulations to all the cast members who made an epic paycheck on this kitty-litter-stenched cat-nap, and if a hunking payday wasn’t motivation, then I hope any agents responsible are fired immediately. Forever barred from working in Hollywood, even with the desperation of Nic Cage.

File this under Under-appreciated Costars: Cats. That's right, cats. Our feline friends have been stealing thunder from the rest of the animal kingdom on the Internet for ages now. Grumpy Cat, Lil' Bub, Keyboard Cat—they all have huge followings and deservedly loyal fan clubs. But their onscreen (that would be the big screen, here) counterparts have been given decidedly less attention. Why do we worship cats on Instagram yet give no love to those who so boldly stand beside Hollywood's biggest actors? We're calling foul on this practice. This weekend's wacky comedy Keanu gave us just the reminder that we needed to give these kitties their time in the sun. The flick...

Blake Shelton is known to crack some good jokes, but there's one gal who's just not that into him: Grumpy Cat. In a new promo for Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards, the "Sangria" singer - who's hosting the show this year - attempts to win a smile from the famous feline to no avail. To be fair, the duo start off on the wrong foot. "I gotta say, it is so cool meeting you Mr. Grumpy Cat. It's like a dream come true, really," says Shelton. Er, Grumpy's a girl, cowboy! Attempting to smooth things over, the singer cracks a few cat puns.

Despite arriving a decade too late, there’s a version of the small-town coming-out comedy “4th Man Out” — about a young, gay Average Joe whose friendship with his blue-collar buddies is tested by his newly announced sexuality — that could feel relevant. But first-time director Andrew Nackman’s emotionally shallow, vaguely misogynistic take isn’t it. Foul-mouthed yet ultra-tame, this bromance might have made a progressive-for-its-time companion piece with “Friends,” that gay panic-fueled ’90s TV staple. Many of the jokes — and later, a plot point — hinge on auto mechanic Adam’s (Evan Todd, “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever”) possible attraction to.

Chicago – The times, they are a-changing, and much of that change comes from a millennial generation who accept all the people and experiences of their time. The new film “4th Man Out” explores what happens when one member of a close-knit male group of longtime friends reveals his orientation, and features Kate Flannery (“The Office”) and a stellar cast.
“4th Man Out” is a comedy, taking on the the confusion and adjustments both for a 25 year-old man from a small town named Adam (Evan Todd) who decides to come out to his lifelong buddies Chris, Nick and Ortu (Parker Young, Chord Overstreet and Jon Gabrus). At the same time he wrestles with how to navigate his new world, and how to come out to his family (including Kate Flannery as his mother Karen). Warm, funny and perfectly natural, “4th Man Out” succeeds by allowing everyone to be themselves.

Grumpy Cat is taking her dissatisfaction to court. The famous feline curmudgeon’s company, Grumpy Cat Limited, has filed a lawsuit against a beverage company, claiming that the manufacturer infringed on Grumpy Cat’s copyright and trademark for an unauthorized line of coffee. The suit, filed in federal court in California on Friday, claims that Grumpy Cat Limited entered into a limited licensing agreement with Grenade Beverage in March for a line of iced-coffee products dubbed Grumpy Cat Grumppucino. However, the suit claims, Grenade overstepped the limited terms of the agreement to create an unauthorized Grumpy Cat-themed roasted ground coffee product,...

We continue our hunt for an overlooked Christmas classic in the DVD bargain bin. Our latest treat? Grumpy Cat...
Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever is a hard film to write about.
Without wishing to exaggerate its effect, it almost makes you feel like you need to unlearn everything you thought you knew about cinema in order to give it a reasonable assessment. I suppose I should start by saying it’s not a 'good film', but then value judgements feel futile in the (adorable and super-smooshy) face of Grumpy Cat. Besides, whatever insult you could level at this film’s content is redundant. Odds are it’s already been covered by the mega-meta self-loathing that oozes from every scene.
What makes it so compelling, though, is the simple fact that it exists. That you can buy it on DVD. That you didn’t just pass out...

It seems to be more difficult than ever to get a film made in Hollywood; chances are if it isn’t a sequel, reboot or remake then it just won’t get greenlit. As production budgets climb ever higher the studios want to stick – understandably – to movies that are almost guaranteed to make a profit, which sadly doesn’t leave much room for new talent or original ideas to push through.
So now filmmakers need to be a little more creative when it comes to selling their ideas, with the internet appearing to be the place to do it – every other day a new film is announced that was based on a video that went viral, a piece of fan fiction or even some artwork.
This is encouraging as it shows that great ideas can always rise to the surface, regardless of their origins. Or, in the case of...

Now, they can actually do that with Marbles’ likeness, which is the first selfie-taking wax figure at Madame Tussauds New York.
