Looks like it is time to start preparing ourselves for another brutal horror thriller from our friend Lucio A Rojas. Spiritually, emotionally, and physically preparing ourselves. Rojas continues to exorcise his demons - or appease them, I don’t know - through the medium of film. He has recently wrapped up shooting his new thriller, Basement Games, an adaptation of Simone Trojahn’s 2019 novel of the same name. Basement Games tells the story of Laura, a young traveling photographer who, while traveling in southern Chile, is kidnapped by some brothers who live in a rural town, unleashing a horrible ordeal at the hands of her captors. Rural towns… are the worst. Rojas has recently completed filming on the new film and...

Chilean horror maestro Lucio A. Rojas has moved on from the traumatic and on to the profane. The director of the harrowing Trauma has just wrapped filming his next horror film, Profania. Now that he is heading into post with the new film he has graced us with a small gallery of behind the scenes images. Argentina, 2001. The country is in the middle of a state of siege. Bruno leads a rural military patrol of five soldiers into the countryside. They come upon an old farmhouse and inside they find several corpses and two survivors. Unwittingly, they awaken a diabolical entity living in the forest that revives the dead in the house and will torment them all night long. They will have to...

I have come to the conclusion that Chilean director Lucio A. Rojas hates the countryside. Absolutely loathes it. How have I come to this conclusion? Every feature and short I've seen from him is set in the countryside and horrible, fucked up things happen in them. Sweet merciful fuck I couldn't even make it all the way throught this trailer for an earlier feature of his, Sendero. How am I still friends with this guy!?! I digress, Black Mandala is releasing Rojas' 2015 extreme horror flick Sendero on demand here in Canada, the U.S. and the UK/Ireland. We've put the trailer down below. I mean really, as this point do you even need a warning about the content? Jesus, Lucio. We...

A new extreme body horror anthology called Ill was announced the other day. We caught wind of it when my friend Lucio A. Rojas, director of last year's extreme horror offering Trauma, sent me the announcement. After I harranged him online for not coming to me first he ponied up some details about the project. I have been working my way down the list of other directors (more to come). Rojas will direct one of four chapters, created by himself and three other director from around the World. He will make his chapter, Contagium, in his home country, Chile. He wrote his contribution with one of his ladies of Trauma, Ximena del Solar, who told me yesterday that she is very excited to branch...

I was lucky enough to watch a debut screening of Trauma at the inaugural Soho Horror Film festival, where the crowd were already hyped for this harrowing, messed up piece, and it did not disappoint. Fair comparisons can be made to the likes of A Serbian Film, Martyrs and Hate Crime, relentlessly uncomfortable and chilling in its execution.

After settling into their home for the weekend, they are set upon by a maniac Father and Son duo, and subjected to a life changing evening, forever scarring them. Rojas, Trauma has screened at Horror Hound Film Festival, the Vancouver Badass Film Festival de Canada, Morbido Film Fest and the Optical Theatre Festival in Italy, where Rojas took home the award for Best Film.
Trauma is a shocking, brutal tale that blends the dark history of Chile’s recent repressive dictatorial past with the seemingly modern and progressive Chile of today. The two worlds clash when a group of women venture to the idyllic countryside for a weekend of fun. But their outing soon turns nightmarish when a victim of government torture stumbles upon them, unleashing his pent-up rage. Face to face with the depravity of man, the women must fight for their very lives. Director Lucio A. Rojas exposes the horrors of politics with evil that can...
