In one of the first big deals of the upcoming SXSW Film Festival, emerging genre sales company Yellow Veil Pictures has acquired the global sales rights for the animated fantasy “The Spine of Night.”
Directed by Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King, the film is set to have its world premiere in the SXSW Midnighters section of the festival, which runs virtually from March 16–20. The cast includes Richard E. Grant (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”), Lucy Lawless (“Ash Vs. Evil Dead”), Patton Oswalt (“A.P. Bio”), Betty Gabriel (“Get Out”), and Joe Manganiello (“Magic Mike Xxl”), and featuring Abby Savage (“Orange Is the New Black”), Larry Fessenden (“The Dead Don’t Die”), and Rob McClure (Broadway’s “Beetlejuice”).
Described as an ultra-violent, epic fantasy, “The Spine of Night” was hand-rotoscoped in the style of cult classic animator Ralph Bakshi and designed to evoke the style of formative fantasy artist Frank Frazetta.

We have an eclectic assortment of titles on tap for this week’s home media releases, including some Hammer Horror, a post-apocalyptic television series, several brilliant modern genre classics, and a handful of indie horror to boot. Classic horror fans are definitely going to want to pick up Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition Blu-ray for Kiss of the Vampire, and if you’ve been holding out for the definitive release of A.T. White’s Starfish, your prayers have been answered with a new Deluxe Edition Blu that also includes a CD. 12 Monkeys: The Complete Series is headed to both formats on Tuesday, and if you’ve somehow missed out on seeing The Taking of Deborah Logan, you can remedy that by buying either the Blu-ray or DVD (and then thank me later).
Other releases for July 14th include Jurassic Shark, Game of Death, The Black Cat (2020), Killing Brooke,...

One of George A. Romero's earliest films (regarded as a PSA about the horrors of ageism), The Amusement Park was previously thought to be lost to the passage of time, but following its recent discovery and new 4K restoration, the movie's worldwide sales rights have been acquired by Yellow Veil Pictures, bringing it one step closer to public consumption.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yellow Veil Pictures is bringing The Amusement Park to the Cannes Virtual Market, so we might not have to wait long to see who will team up with the company to distribute the film to the masses.
In the meantime, we have the official press release with more information below:
Press Release: Los Angeles, CA - June 25th, 2020 - NY/LA-based arthouse/genre sales company Yellow Veil Pictures have acquired the worldwide sales rights for The Amusement Park, the formerly lost film from iconic filmmaker George A.

2019 has been a very busy year so far for the horror genre, as we’ve been getting a ton of films coming out over the last few months, which can make it hard to keep up. Here’s a look at a trio of projects that I recently had the opportunity of viewing: Mary Harron’s Charlie Says, which arrives in theaters in Los Angeles today, writer/director A.T. White’s Starfish, and In Memory Of from filmmaker Eric Stanze.
Charlie Says: For Charlie Says, filmmaker Mary Harron explores the manipulative spell that the infamous Charles Manson (Matt Smith) cast over his followers, and in this case, three different women—Leslie Van Houten (Hannah Murray), Susan Atkins (Marianne Rendón), and Patricia Krenwinkel (Sosie Bacon)—who were incarcerated for their involvement in the brutal killings that rocked Los Angeles (and the entire world) in 1969. The trio were incarcerated together, kept away from the general population,...

After the loss of her best friend Grace, young Aubrey (Virginia Gardner) struggles to make sense of her life. It doesn't help that the world has fallen victim to what appears to be an invasion of alien beasts determined to wipe humanity off the map. When Aubrey moves into Grace's old place in an attempt to feel closer to her, she stumbles upon a gold cassette with a label that says "This Mixtape Will Save The World", on the tape is a message that inspires a quest to collect a series of others that will hopefully put everything right with the world. First-time director A.T. White’s Starfish is a surprisingly intimate take on what is essentially an apocalyptic sci-fi story. Written as an attempt at...

A.T. White's cosmic horror Starfish is coming to select theaters on a roadshow across the Us this March then on VOD May 28th. Yesterday, a beautiful illustrated theatrical poster was released. Imagine our surprise when we found out that Toronto based comic illustrator, the immensely talented Cameron Stewart was behind the piece. We are suckers for illustrated posters, especially when they are very good, as it is in this case. Stewart's illustration surely captures the intimacy and solitude of Virginia Gardner's character Aburey from White's film, conveying the tone of his cosmic horror very well. With reality rapidly fraying at the edges, Aubrey finds herself following a string of clues left after the death of her...

"A girl. A mixtape. And the end of the world." The Orchard has released the first official trailer for an indie cosmic horror film titled Starfish, which is the feature debut of musician/filmmaker A.T. White. The originally premiered at Fantastic Fest last fall, and also played at the Morbido Film Fest in Mexico. Starfish is described as a "unique, intimate and honest" portrayal of a girl grieving for the death of her best friend. And it just happens to take place on the day the world ends as we know it, when a mysterious signal from an unknown dimension summons the end of days. Virginia Gardner stars as Aubrey, who discovers a tape labeled "this mixtape will save the world." Forced to fight off the encroaching creatures, she sets out to find more tapes and (hopefully?) save the world. Also starring Christina Masterson, Eric Beecroft, Natalie Mitchell, Shannon Hollander,...

One of the most deliciously perplexing films screened at Fantastic Fest in 2018 was Starfish; I’m talking Donnie Darko levels of mind-fuckery combined with creature effects reminiscent of Stranger Things, an apocalyptic atmosphere akin to The Mist, and the metaphysical musings of Annihilation. White that hinges on a […] The post New Trailer for Festival Hit Starfish Arrives in Advance of Us Theatrical Roadshow appeared first on Dread Central.
