(The Steppenwolfs) was created by poet Eik Skaløe and folksinger/songwriter Stig Møller in November 1966, when Skaløe approached Møller determined that the two would make wonders in the world of music. In February 1967 Søren Seirup (bass/harmonica) and Preben Devantier (drums) joined. During the spring Steppeulvene landed a recording deal with Metronome (dk) and began recording with producer Olav Bennike. By mid June 1967 the album "Hip" was released and received good reviews. After having performed at a couple of "Love Ins" in Copenhagen, and as supporting act for Pink Floyd at Star Club on Sept. 13, the band toured other parts of Denmark. In Kolding the convert was canceled because of drug related, and in Aalborg the police interrupted the concert and arrested the band. After this incident Eik Skaløe decided to travel out east with his friend Otto Kissum. On motorcycle via Istanbul they headed for Afghanistan. Meanwhile the remaining members of Steppeulvene supported the British super group Cream and The Crazy world of Arthur Brown and recorded a single "Du Skal Ud, Hvor Du Ikke Kan Bunde/Flip". By the end of Nov. 1967 Stig Møller had left the band. The Steppeulvene was no more. And Eik Skaløe dies on Oct 15 in India. 20 years later in 1988 filmmaker Ole Christian Madsen put together the documentary "Kun for forrykte/For the Mad Only" consisting of super-8 recordings of the band plus new interviews. In 2014 he directs the feature film "Steppeulven/Itsi Bitsi" focusing on the short life of poet and vagabond Eik Skaløe.
