After persistent rumors, we finally got confirmation that Daisy Ridley is set to return as Rey for a new post-sequel trilogy Star Wars movie during 2023's Star Wars Celebration event.
Ridley will reprise her role as Rey "Skywalker" for director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's movie, which will be set a whole fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Plot details are still mostly under wraps, but we do know that Rey will be a "powerful Jedi master" running her own training academy when we catch up with her.
Shortly after the announcement, rumors began to do the rounds that John Boyega was set to join his co-star as former Stormtrooper Finn. Ridley was asked about the reports while speaking to THR on the red carpet for her latest film, Young Woman and the Sea, and while she mostly side-stepped the question, she did offer the following.
"Absolutely, of course,...

Actor Ray Park debuted as the menacing Sith apprentice Darth Maul in the first installment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. However, Maul meets his untimely demise at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi at the end of The Phantom Menace. Given Maul’s interesting look and brief screen time, fans have clamored to see more of the character in the films.
Ray Park originated the role of Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace.
During an interview, Park admitted to being eager for a return to the galaxy far, far away. The primary reason for Park’s reinvigorated interest in reprising the role of Darth Maul was due to the new lightsaber design of Kylo Ren, which debuted in The Force Awakens. Here is what Park had to say about Kylo Ren’s lightsaber design and his desire to return to Star Wars.

Geroge Lucas changed the face of the galaxy far, far away when the first installment in the prequel trilogy of Star Wars movies was released in 1999. The Phantom Menace introduced viewers to the character of Qui-Gon Jinn, played by Liam Neeson, who plays an integral role in the stories of both Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn was not in George Lucas’ plans for The Phantom Menace.
However, according to reports, Lucas’ original plans for the film almost did not include Neeson’s character. Moreover, when Lucas did plan to incorporate the Qui-Gon Jinn character, the initial idea was so outrageous that it would have not only upset loyal fans of the franchise but it is hard to imagine Obi-Wan actor Ewan McGregor being on board with it. Here is everything you need to know about the original plan for Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace.

John Boyega is a massive Star Wars fan and was fortunate to have starred in the high-grossing sequel trilogy of the space opera fantasy franchise. Yet, despite the massive opportunity and the effect it had on his career, the actor wasn’t afraid to call out Disney and others about how he and his character Finn were treated.

Over the years, while he seemed to have grown a more positive outlook on the fiasco, his fans are not ready to forgive Disney yet. Daisy Ridley, his co-star, will be returning to the Star Wars universe and remarked she would love to have Boyega back as well. Daisy Ridley trades in her Star Wars lightsaber for a pair of goggles in new film Young Woman and the Sea, telling the real-life story of the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel.
Ridley plays Trudy Ederle, who made the 21-mile swim in 1926 and broke down barriers for women in the sport along the way, but whose story is not commonly known. At the Los Angeles premiere on Thursday, Ridley told The Hollywood Reporter that she wasn’t much of a swimmer before the project, acknowledging, “I would walk into a pool and I would stand there, and sometimes I would do a hold my breath competition, but I had never done a full length of the pool. So the first time I got in the pool and tried to, I stood up halfway and was like, ‘I actually can’t do this.’ And then I had to...

When Peter Billingsley's comedy "Couples Retreat" was released in 2009, some critics argued that the title should serve as a warning. It only garnered a 10% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Peter Bradshaw from the Guardian saying that former Prime Minister of Cambodia, Pol Pot, could have written a warmer, funnier film.
The film follows four middle-aged couples on a retreat to a tropical resort called Eden where they mean to rekindle their respective flagging relationships. The couples are played by Vince Vaughn and Malin Åkerman, Jon Favreau and Kristin Davis, Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell, and Faizon Love and Kali Hawk. The cast was stacked, and the story interspersed run-of-the-mill midlife crises with limp attempts at slapstick. The film cost $60 million to make and netted $171 million worldwide, so it wasn't a bomb, but it also was dismissed and forgotten by the culture at large.

Daisy Ridley shot to fame as the leading protagonist Rey in Star Wars’ sequel trilogy. She shared screen space with newcomers Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega, as well as Star Wars veterans such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford in the films. The films were divisive in their responses, with creator George Lucas himself not being a fan.

However, she will be returning as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars film. Ridley mentioned that she almost manifested a Rey-centered film right before meeting with LucasFilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy.

In “Back to Black,” Jack O’Connell’s Blake Fielder-Civil comes into the life of Amy Winehouse — played by an exceptional Marisa Abela — with seductive bravado, sweeping the singer off her feet on their first meeting in a London pub thanks to, among other things, a lip-synced rendition of the Shangri-La’s “Leader of the Pack”.
As the divisive biopic, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and released in the U.K. by StudioCanal this Friday (and in the U.S. by Focus Features on May 17), agonizingly portrays, the smitten pair quickly descend into violent self-destruction — a “toxic co-dependency” as Fielder-Civil later describes it in the film — fueled by alcoholism and drug abuse.
Many may question the ethics of picking at a tragic story that was heavily chronicled and sensationalized by the media in real-time during Winehouse’s final years. But for anyone who’s been tracking O’Connell’s career, the opportunity to...

John Oliver spotlighted Simu Liu and John Boyega on Last Week Tonight for their beginnings as stock photo models.
In the last segment of the HBO show, Oliver talked about stock photos, noting that that’s how the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars got their start.
“Stock photos provide an income stream, not just for photographers, but also for actors starting out,” Oliver said.
Oliver cut to a photo of Boyega in a picture posing as a student. The late-night show host then presented Liu with a series of photos “pointing at a laptop, looking at the camera during a group project and exercising in a totally normal, not at all unhinged way.” Oliver was poking fun at the way Liu was posing while seemingly exercising for the picture.

Star Wars and Star Trek are two extremely popular American science fiction franchises set in space. Yet the two could not have been more different. Star Wars is known for its epic space battles, Jedi knights, and the force, while Star Trek focuses on exploring new worlds, the art of diplomacy, and scientific discovery with a humanitarian agenda. Both franchises have a massive fan base and have influenced popular culture significantly.
Star Trek has been more inclusive than Star Wars
Yet it seems Star Trek is miles apart from its contender when it comes to diversity, inclusivity, and equality. And the Star Wars actor, Amandla Stenberg’s latest diversity comment about the universe certainly feels like a massive slap in the face for any and every Star Trek fan.

Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role of Rey for a new Star Wars movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and the actress shared a few insights about the project while speaking with Deadline.
While Ridley said that she’s still waiting to read a script, she did say that she knows “bit and bobs,” including that there will be “an introduction of new characters.” When asked if any previous characters would be reprising their roles, such as John Boyega as Finn or Adam Driver as the ghost of Kylo Ren, Ridley said she didn’t know. Another character who fans might expect to see is Luke Skywalker, but Mark Hamill hasn’t heard anything. “Everything is confidential,” Hamill said. “So, If I were involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. And if I were not involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. So, I don’t know.

I have been a fan of director Jeremy Saulnier’s work ever since his feature debut Murder Party was given a home video release back in 2007, and it has been great to watch his career progress through Blue Ruin, Green Room, Hold the Dark, and episodes of True Detective season 3. Anything he does will have my attention, so I was excited when another Saulnier film called Rebel Ridge was announced back in 2019. Unfortunately, we still haven’t seen Rebel Ridge because the Netflix production was delayed by the pandemic lockdowns, then by the departure of lead actor John Boyega a few weeks into filming, reportedly due to “family reasons.” Saulnier did eventually manage to make the movie, though, and he talked about the troubled production during a recent interview with Film Stories.

Jeremy Saulnier’s thriller Rebel Ridge was disrupted by the pandemic and the sudden departure of John Boyega. He talks exclusively to us about its “tumultuous” production.
With such taut, superbly-shot thrillers as Blue Ruin and Green Ruin to his name, interest has been high in writer-director Jeremy Saulnier’s next film, Rebel Ridge. Bankrolled by Netflix and originally due to begin filming in April 2020, however, its production was beset by problems, including a pandemic-induced delay and the sudden departure of its star, John Boyega.
Speaking exclusively to Film Stories, Jeremy Saulnier – who’s promoting a new home release of his 2015 thriller, Green Room – described the making of Rebel Ridge as “tumultuous.”
“We came back three years in a row to make that movie,” he adds.
After Covid-19 saw Rebel Ridge’s production delayed in 2020, filming commenced in Louisiana the following spring, with Don Johnson, James Badge Dale, James Cromwell...

It’s hard to believe it’s been 47 years since we first witnessed the adventures of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but across the nine-movie Skywalker saga, two standalone movies, a multitude of TV series, and one questionable Holiday Special, we’ve learned it’s a big ol’ galaxy out there. With enough characters to fill a Death Star, it’s inevitable that not every player in this grand space opera would get the same attention as Luke, Han, and Leia.
In fact, the franchise has allowed a few characters to slip to the sidelines. From major players who were discarded into the trash compactor to those who didn’t resonate with fans and were quietly pushed to the side, here are 12 Star Wars characters who deserved better.

Emma Watson was known for sporting her long hairdo over the course of the Harry Potter movies. But after she said her goodbyes to Hermione Granger, Watson decided to sport a short pixie cut. But initially, not many felt that was a good idea.

Watson once had everyone take notice when she did away with her long locks to sport a shorter hairstyle. It turned out that Watson wanted to cut her hair from an early age, but she couldn’t because of her Harry Potter obligations. Being done with the movie series freed Watson up to tamper with her image a bit more.
“I’ve wanted to do it since I was about 16, and when Harry Potter ended in June, I just needed a change,” Watson once told Marie Claire. “It was quite symbolic for me.

Much can be said about "Star Wars" but if there is one thing that it contributed to the greater landscape of cinema, it's a legacy of advancing on-screen visual effects. From the very beginning, George Lucas and the team at Industrial Light and Magic managed to do things that nobody could have imagined were possible beforehand. To this day, Lucasfilm continues that tradition under the Disney umbrella, with shows like "The Mandalorian" continuing to break new ground with VFX. But it was the sequel trilogy that showed what modern "Star Wars" could truly look like with the might of Disney backing these productions.
Beginning with "The Force Awakens," these massive-scale blockbusters represented much of what this franchise had been in the past, as well as what it could be in the future. But what goes into making a lightsaber look real? How do you bring a Porg to life? How...

Daisy Ridley is having quite the year so far. Her new movie, Sometimes I Think About Dying, released in theaters earlier this month and is receiving positive notes. Her indie neo-noir movie Magpie is set to premiere at the SXSW film festival in March. The biopic Young Woman and the Sea, in which she stars as Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel, was originally slated for a Disney+ release may instead get a bump up to theatrical. Oh, and she’s filming a new action-thriller called Cleaner directed by 007 franchise legend Martin Campbell.
In between all that, Ridley is also of course answering plenty of questions about her upcoming return to Star Wars. The actor recently teased that her solo movie, which is set 15 years after the Sequel Trilogy and will follow Rey as she works to build a new Jedi Order, is taking...

As shocking as it may seem to people who are having trouble admitting they’re old (myself included), Denzel Washington’s post-apocalyptic action film, “The Book of Eli,” is turning 14 this year. Yes, that means there are kids who will attend high school this year that were born the same year ‘Eli’ was released. ‘Star Wars’ actor John Boyega has joined the cast of ‘The Book of Eli,’ the TV series prequel to the 2010 post-apocalyptic action film which starred Denzel Washington.
Boyega will take on the role of the younger version of Washington’s Eli in the project, which comes from the movie’s writer, Gary Whitta, creator/writer/executive producer of the potential series, and its directors, the Hughes brothers, who executive produce.
Details of the plot are being kept under wraps but it is rumoured to be set 30 years prior to the events in the film, which would put it around the time of the nuclear event or its immediate aftermath.

The movie follows Eli (Washington), a nomad who fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation, 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe caused an ecocide.
