"Stay sharp! Otherwise I'm done for..." Madman Films has revealed the main official trailer for a fun new New Zealand movie called The Mountain, marking the directorial debut of New Zealand actress Rachel House (from Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Thor: Ragnarok and tons of other films). After opening in Nz back in March (first teaser here), it's set to premiere at the Sydney Film Festival in June for its Australian premiere. The film explores the journey of three young people as they seek solace under the watchful gaze of the Taranaki mountain (aka "Taranaki Maunga" - see Google Maps) and companionship in the spirit of adventure. Starring Elizabeth Atkinson, Reuben Francis, and Terence Daniel. They are also joined by Troy Kingi (Muru), Byron Coll, Fern Sutherland, and Sukena Shah. I'm all about this! I want to see it so bad! Looks funny and fresh. Hopefully it'll show up in the US sooner than later,...

"Your mountain is your ancestor." Madman Films has unveiled a first look teaser trailer for a New Zealand film called The Mountain, marking the feature directorial debut of New Zealand actress Rachel House (from Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Thor: Ragnarok and tons of other films). It's currently set to open in Nz this March, though it still doesn't have release dates set outside of the country. This looks great! I want to see it! There's just enough footage in this teaser to convince me this is a must watch film, with a similar vibe as Wilderpeople.

“Shadow in the Cloud” is a war picture and a monster movie that dips into one or two more genres before it’s done, but director and co-writer Roseanne Liang (“My Wedding and Other Secrets”) never lets the pace slacken. It’s the kind of movie that has you laughing at the filmmaker’s moxie while also yelping at the suspense.
Liang and co-writer Max Landis get away with any number of bold moves — including sticking their heroine into a cramped, solitary space for the first half-hour and limiting her communication with other characters to voices on a radio channel — but in the end, “Shadow in the Cloud” succeeds so frequently that viewers will be more likely to give some of the lapses in internal logic a pass.

The specialty box office and streaming space is ringing in 2021 with a peppering of new titles starting with Shadow in the Cloud starring Chloë Grace Moretz, which opens in select theaters and drops on VOD and digital starting January 1, 2021.
Directed by Roseanne Liang who co-wrote the script with Max Landis, Shadow in the Cloud is part war pic, part horror and part women empowerment. Set in World War II, the film follows Captain Maude Garrett (Moretz) who joins an all-male crew of a B-17 bomber with a top-secret package. Caught off guard by the presence of a woman on a military flight, the crew tests Maude’s every move. Just as her quick wit is winning them over, strange happenings and holes in her backstory incite paranoia surrounding her true mission. On top of all of this, there’s something lurking in the shadows — something sinister is tearing at the heart of the plane.

The most batshit crazy movie we saw last year? Filmmaker Roseanne Liang’s “Shadow In The Cloud” WWII actioner starring Chloë Grace Moretz that’s a mishmash blend of so many different and disparate movies. “Shadow In The Clouds” borrows from horror, WWII, aviation movies, action, claustrophobic thriller, and even a little bit of espionage.

Co-starring Nick Robinson, Beulah Koale, Taylor John Smith, Callan Mulvey, Benedict Wall, Joe Witkowski, Byron Coll, to name a few, “Shadow In The Clouds,” is ostensibly about—at first— a WWII pilot who is put on a plane last minute with a typically misogynistic all-male crew.

"Requesting permission to fire on an enemy attacker!" Vertical Ent. has just dropped in with a full-length trailer for the awesome contained action horror film Shadow in the Cloud, a big breakout from Chinese-New Zealand filmmaker Roseanne Liang. We're big fans of this badass little film and hope viewers will give it a look. This fearsome WWII action-thriller is set entirely on a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber. The story follows a female WWII pilot traveling with top secret documents who catches a flight with an all-male crew, but soon discovers there's some creepy gremlin creature crawling around the plane. It takes place almost entirely on that plane, and it's awesome. Chloë Grace Moretz stars as Maude Garrett, along with Nick Robinson, Beulah Koale, Taylor John Smith, Callan Mulvey, Benedict Wall, Joe Witkowski, and Byron Coll. I saw this during TIFF and raved about it in my review. Although this trailer...

TIFF Review: Shadow in the Cloud Sets Chloë Grace Moretz in a Taut Thriller That Devolves into Chaos
Try as they might, Max Landis’ name is still there on the big screen when the opening titles to Roseanne Liang’s Shadow in the Cloud begin to roll. They’ve scrubbed it from the press notes save a single mention in the full credit list, IMDb hasn’t added it to their page (yet), and star Chloë Grace Moretz has gone out of her way to ensure everyone knows Liang (who shares that screenwriting credit) rewrote the original draft multiple times. That Landis hasn’t been demoted to strictly “story by” only reveals how much of the film’s structure remains connected to his work—and you will be able to tell once it begins to unfold. He did get paid, though. He might get paid more. But this isn’t his film.
It’s unfortunate that this needs to be said, but audiences deserve the chance to decide...

It is a slimline Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this year but there are still plenty of acquisition titles on offer for distributors looking to fill 2021 and 2022 slots.
Here we take a look at some of the available films that are likely to be among the more sought after prospects.
TIFF runs from September 10-19 and opens on Thursday with David Byrne’s American Utopia directed by Spike Lee. Click here for Screen’s report on the line-up, and here for the TIFF Industry Selects roster.
