Things are looking bleak now. Carrie Mathison is in proverbial handcuffs and on a mission that requires her to betray her mentor in order to save the country. Saul Berenson, meanwhile, is pretty much on the complete political outs with a warmongering neocon administration that in less than a fortnight is eagerly starting a third Middle East war.
All of this leaves viewers precariously on edge for the Homeland series finale. So in case you haven’t been keeping count here’s the score: there are two episodes left of Homeland Season 8, including next Sunday’s “The English Teacher.” But the finale episode of the season, and the finale of the series, does not air until Sunday April 26, 2020. It has no current synopsis, but there is a heck of an evocative title attached to it: “Prisoners of War.”

The first of three WGA membership meetings this week to discuss the status of the guild’s ongoing standoff with Hollywood’s talent agencies drew polarizing reaction. Opposition candidates are accusing the guild’s leaders of electioneering at the Wednesday night gathering, a claim denied by WGA West president David Goodman, while other writers called it informative and “a strong showing of solidarity.”
“What David Goodman and David Young are doing tonight at the general meeting is a violation of the law,” tweeted Ayelet Waldman, a board candidate on opposition leader Phyllis Nagy’s slate. “Electioneering at guild events is specifically not allowed. Shame on them! In fact, many who are there reported their disgust at the electioneering.”
In a statement, Goodman flatly denied that he or Young, the guild’s executive director, engaged in electioneering at the meeting. The term refers to the use of union resources to promote one candidate over another.

Slamdance has awarded its grand prize for screenwriting to Jessica Sinyard for her television pilot “The Peak.”
The prize was presented Thursday night during a ceremony hosted by Writers Guild of America West at the WGA Theatre. About 3,000 submissions were received for this year’s contest, and more than $16,000 was awarded to 2018 winners across all categories.
“The Peak” is a psychological survival thriller that follows a team of eight overachievers in their attempt to climb Mount Everest. When a team member goes missing on the peak, paranoia and altitude sickness corrode the reliability of survivor accounts. With a dual narrative that interweaves both the team’s ascent and descent, “The Peak” explores the choices people make when they believe no one is watching.
“This year’s competition proved that wherever you come from in this world our judges are waiting to discover and honor great new writing talent, especially if...
