- I wasn't, you know, Mr Popular. I was somewhere in the middle ground. I was quite alternative, the things I liked to do. Skateboarding, at the time. Playing in a band as opposed to playing in the rugby team. You know, that kind of thing.
- I must come across as this terrible neurotic case with issues, I keep getting cast that way.
- When I was a teenager, I wanted to be a rock star, not an actor. It means I can do what I want on my own terms.
- I've always been into music like from a very young age, and I've always played guitar and written songs and all that - and I love it, but the way it's all turned out in my life...the acting's sort of taken the leading role if you like. So it's turned out like that...which I quite like because it means I can do the music in my spare time and write and record stuff. And if anyone wants to listen to it that's great. It's very much a no pressure thing.
- I don't really feel that famous. I think I lead quite a normal life with the occasional something a bit different. I like getting on the train and normal stuff like doing the dishes, because you can so easily lose your mind in this world where everything's done for you, you get picked up, driven to things, given stuff for free and all that madness.
- [on leaving Misfits] I think I wanted to do something else. At the end of the second series it was different because I wasn't obliged anymore contractually. I went to the producers and asked "What are you going to do, where is my character going?" I think I already had in my mind that I'd do one more series and leave because although I love it and I'm grateful for the opportunity it's given me. I'm going to have to do something else: new challenges and all that malarkey.
- I'm still secretly a bit of a punk. Love The Clash and a bit of the Pistols. I guess as I've got older I've chilled out a bit. But, my teenage angst is still stirring somewhere!
- [on 'Game of Thrones' wedding night with Sansa] I think maybe if people put more effort into the charities that help women in the world today deal with the horror of rape, and put less effort into social media about a fantasy show, then maybe things could change.
- I've always had a massive voice, even as a kid. I think my bones vibrate louder than other people's. Going to drama school and doing all that voice training has only made it worse.
- Some stuff I've done in the season coming now [season 5 of Game of Thrones (2011)] really disturbs me. Learning it at home, gearing myself up, it's horrible. Then when I get on the set, in my trailer, that day, oh God, I really don't want to do it. You've got to slap yourself, 'Come on, it's not real'.
- [2015; minutes after he enters a noisy hotel bar for an interview, the room empties] That happens wherever I go. [laughs]
- [2015] I don't know if people assume I'm like Ramsay. Come on! He's a complete monster.
- There is obviously something wrong with Ramsay and always has been. Maybe he wasn't nurtured correctly but I think he was a little s--- anyway.
- [2015] I reserve the right not to get my photograph taken every time someone recognises me. I can be having a cigarette or a beer with my mates and people start shoving phones in my face. And maybe, when I've had a few beers, I might not be as polite as I should be.
- Someone did come up to me in the street and he was like "Oh you're that Ramsay Snow guy." It was in London. I was like "Lord Bolton to you." And he was quite a big guy and he did take it. I thought I was gonna get punched.
- But the most important thing that happened [in 2018] is that I became a father. It's wonderful. I never knew how much love one is capable of.
- It's a weird thing with accents. When I go home it gets a lot stronger, when I've had a few beers it gets a lot stronger.
- I'm gonna miss being part of the show [Game of Thrones (2011)]. Massively. But I don't I feel like I'm going to miss Ramsay. I feel like he had his lark, and it was just that he died. And I think it was the right thing for the show moving forward. So no, I don't think I'm going to miss Ramsay himself, but I'm certainly going to miss being a part of this wonderful show. It's going to be really strange this year not going back to Belfast and starting it all over again.
- [speaking about his character Ramsay from Game of Thrones (2011)] On a personal level, I dislike pretty much everything about him. But there is humanity in there, somewhere, as you'll see in Season 6. He's not all evil... Just mostly evil. He craves for his father's love and acceptance. Then again, at least he does his own dirty work... They're probably his only redeeming quality.
- Creepy vibes, that's what I'm known for.
- [Last time you googled yourself?] On the way here to figure out how to pronounce my name.
- I guess I wasn't in the 'cool gang' at school. Well, I suppose we sort of were the 'cool gang', when you think about it now.
- [on Kit Harington accidentally punching him in the face twice while filming Battle of the Bastards (2016)] That was good. Jaw hurt a bit the next day, but, you know, it's understandable.
- [His response after being asked if he grew up on a creative family] My parents aren't artists or anything, but growing up in Wales, especially in a Welsh language school and community, they have this thing called the Eisteddfod where people compete in singing and acting and dancing and oratory all sorts of things. From a very young age, it's been a part of my upbringing.
- It's kind of the bit I don't like most, about the job, but I understand that it's crucial, and that you need to do it. Red carpets are a bit stressful for me. I really love doing the job and the work, but then you have to go through all that, and it's a bit weird.
- [Do you get kicked out of Wales if you can't sing?] They disown you as a child and send you up to the mountains to fend for yourself. There's a whole community of Welsh people that can't sing, but we keep them really hidden in the mountains. That's what they're for.
- [2014] [What have you learnt from your travels?] Not to do anything stupid. I think it depends where you are, but you've got to keep your head on. Some places are a bit dodgier than others. I also always try to learn the language of whichever country I'm in so that I'm not just one of those British tourists who demands to be spoken to in English.
- I think drama school really teaches you how to enunciate; you're conscious that people might not understand you if you speak too fast and too Welsh.
- [explaining he was reprimanded for attempting to interact with the dogs on the Game of Thrones (2011) set] They're not like pets, they're kind of guard dogs. They're trained to be vicious, really. They only listen to their owner, so if you have eye contact with them they take that as a direct threat. I wasn't allowed to be anywhere near these dogs while we were filming [Battle of the Bastards (2016)], so it's all CGI.
- [2014] [Do you have plans for more musicals?] No, I don't think so. I'm not really equipped to do musicals. That [Spring Awakening] was a very different one in quite a specific style of singing and acting. I don't think I'll probably do a musical again. I don't know, I might.
- [on filming Game of Thrones (2011)] I've had some dark days out there on those hills. You can see Scotland. The winds coming in November, you're so cold your mouth starts to seize up, you're getting blown around by the wind, it's like, are we actually doing this now? You're mad. But then you look down and the poor extras in little blankets, no protection. They're not looked after properly, it's not really the vibe. It's bloody cold sometimes. I love it, but I like working in studios.
- [June 2016, on Twitter] I'm very touched by all your lovely messages....and very glad people can differentiate me from the character [Ramsay from Game of Thrones (2011)]. Thank you
- [Would you say that [Game of Thrones (2011) characters] the Boltons are the worst people to have dinner with?] They've got to be up there. Roose is probably the most boring man around, he's so serious. And his son is a crazy firecracker. I wouldn't want to go round to dinner with them.
- [2016] [Is it ever hard for fans to separate you from Ramsay Bolton? Any interesting fan interactions?] Not really! People generally get it when you meet them on the street. I think the thing about Game of Thrones (2011), because it's so heightened, it's quite easy when you see people on the streets to realize it's obviously not the character. We don't have a sword and all that gear. I think people kind of get it.
- The music is mine, that's me. The acting, I really enjoy it. I love doing it, it's a fantastic job, I get to do lots of interesting things and go lovely places and worked with really cool people but it is a job, that's what I do for money. Going into the studio to record was a holiday for me. It's fun, I really love it. It's totally within my control, whereas acting is often out of my control, there's a script, there's a director, you shoot it, and then they edit it and they can change the story in the edit room. You can't do that with an acoustic song.
- Yeah I have a lot of favourite characters [in Game of Thrones (2011)] but they keep killing them! I used to be a big fan of Robb Stark. He was great. And Tyrion Lannister of course, he's a brilliant character, so wonderfully played by Peter Dinklage Great, great part, great character.
- [Where are you happiest and most relaxed?] I suppose being in a room with people and not having to be in control, sitting back, letting the banter flow and chilling out with nice people who aren't stressful.
- I like to keep myself to myself. I'm pretty good at getting out and about without getting noticed. London lends itself to that - it can be a very anonymous city. Generally people are respectful. Negative attention is the worst part of the job for me.
- [Is your Welshness an important part of your identity?] Definitely. A really important part. It's important to have a sense of identity and a sense of where you're from. So when Wales beats England at rugby, it feels pretty good.
- [on his Game of Thrones (2011) character Ramsay] He's a complete scumbag. But I find that quite fun. He's a fun character to play. Obviously some scenes are disgusting and I dreaded doing them, but in this kind of environment [on the set] it doesn't feel like you're actually doing it, you're playing it, so it doesn't ever become too much. What's difficult is, as an actor, you still need to understand him in order to make it truthful and to empathize with him.
- My dad can play a tune on the piano but my mum is tone deaf. It's a bit of a family joke like. Bless her. But my dad can sing.
- [on Mission of Honor (2018)] It was tricky because I had to speak in Polish for a lot of the film, but it's a really interesting and important story.
- [on Ed Sheeran's Game of Thrones (2011) cameo] For me, it took me out of it. They could have done it in a way where it wasn't so obviously him or something... By really featuring him it distracted me from the show, and it annoyed me a little bit because of that. I was so excited to see this new season, and then it's like, 'what's he doing here, they don't need to do that'. I don't know why they did.
- [on his off-screen relationship with fellow Game of Thrones (2011) actor Alfie Allen] The thing is that if you don't have a good relationship outside the show, it's hard to do the things we do in the arena of the show. Because we have to quite open to each other in those scenes, so I would think it would be quite horrible after a hard day's torturing and not to have a nice chilled out relationship off. I'm quite a relaxed person.
- [Apparently you auditioned for Jon Snow but got a completely different Snow instead. What do you think the producers saw in you to carry such a disturbing character?] I'm not entirely sure. People often ask me this and I simply don't have an answer to it. I've never played a role like this before and I approached it like any other role I would have. By finding the truth of the person you're trying to portray and trying to deliver good acting. But more often, to avoid tripping over my sword!
