When Edm supergroup Swedish House Mafia announced that they would be breaking up, fans around the world were shocked. Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello had become three of the biggest names in the industry and to hear that they would be going their separate ways was very upsetting news. Well, at least for some people.
For director Christian Larson, he saw it as a chance to continue what he started and finish the journey that he first embarked on with the band several years ago, when he followed them around for Take One: A Documentary Film About Swedish House Mafia. This time, Larson filmed the DJ trio during their last ever world tour, capturing everything from the sold out stadium shows to the tensions boiling beneath the surface between these three longtime friends.
Titled Leave The World Behind, the documentary premiered this year at SXSW and proved to be an absolute crowd pleaser.

Leave The World Behind, Christian Larson’s documentary about Edm super-act Swedish House Mafia, is a frustrating experience. Following the band on their last tour, the film hints and teases at what could be a potentially very interesting look at the breakup of the greatest DJs of the last decade (a sentiment I agree with). However, Larson never pulls back enough layers or digs down very deep, instead choosing to just gloss over the full story and only address it with superficial insights from the band’s members (Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso) that do little to fill in the blanks on what is already a puzzling situation.
When Swedish House Mafia announced that they would be breaking up, fans of the group were in shock. After achieving such monumental success and essentially becoming the modern face of mainstream Edm, we were left stupefied at why the band was going their separate ways.

Swedish House Mafia might be one of the biggest acts in the world you don't know about. And though they're going away, the progressive house group are leaving behind one final treat for fans, the documentary "Leave The World Behind." Director Christian Larson goes behind-the-scenes of the group's final tour, as they decide to call it quits, at what is arguably the peak of their careers. And for the filmmaker, it was very important to present as a full a picture as possible of what went down. "I wanted to show the fans the whole story about the band, how they came together, what they experienced together as a group, and how it all came to an end," Larson told The Playlist over email. "I also wanted to acknowledge how much the fans themselves contributed to the creation of the phenomenon that the band became. And lastly, I wanted it...

Sundance just ended, and we are already preparing for the next big film festival, South By Southwest. Not too long ago, the festival announced a few of the films premiering this year, but now they’ve announced the main slate. The midnight selections and some inevitable late-breaking additions are still to be announced, but this should be more than enough to get you excited. Along with many World Premieres, and Sundance favorites like Richard Linklater’s Boyhood and Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2, the line up also includes an anniversary screening of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and an extended Q&A screening of The Grand Budapest Hotel with Wes Anderson. SXSW 2014 runs March 7 through 15 in Austin, Texas. Check out the line up after the jump.

David Gordon Green’s acclaimed Joe will make its Us premiere, having bowed at Venice and then Toronto last year. Early reviews have Nicolas Cage giving one of the finest performances of his career, with Tye Sheridan (Mud) excellent alongside him.

Not sure if there is a Short Term 12 equivalent in this year’s Narrative Feature Comp, but on paper SXSW programmers are serving up a mean (and the usual lean group of 8 out of a whopping 1,324 film entries) for the upcoming competitiuon of eight which includes notable entries (that we’ve been tracking for a good time now) such as Zachary Wigon’s The Heart Machine, John Magary’s The Mend, Leah Meyerhoff’s I Believe in Unicorns and Lawrence Michael Levine’s Wild Canaries. Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated docs of the year, on the non-fiction side we find Margaret Brown’s The Great Invisible. Below you’ll find a breakdown of the other sections (notable world preems in We’ll Never Have Paris and Faults (see Mary Elizabeth Winstead above), some Sundance items with Texan connections and other nuggets.

The flick's release comes on the heels of another music-related film: Kanye West's "Runaway," which the trio sees as an inspiration.

"Take One," a documentary film on the collective, will be released on DVD in late November. In the film, mega-DJs/producers Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell take viewers far beyond the frenzied night clubs (where they regularly wow thousands and thousands of loyal fans), behind the scenes and into the studios and minds of the guys Tiesto has called the rock stars of house music.
