If action has a name, it must be John Woo. The Hong Kong director has been making grandiose, pulse-pounding, operatic action epics since he began making films in his native country during the early 1970s. Coming off triumphs like "The Killer," the "A Better Tomorrow" duology, and "Hard Boiled," Woo arrived in America with the Jean Claude Van Damme banger "Hard Target" and reshaped the Hollywood action film for a solid ten years. Although he chose to step away from the Hollywood grind after 2003's "Paycheck," he's never stopped making movies, and in fact has expanded and further developed his trademark style with each successive feature.
Two decades after "Paycheck," Woo is finally making his return to Hollywood and the English-language action film by making *checks notes* a drama-heavy action movie where barely any dialogue of any language is spoken. That's right, John Woo isn't done experimenting with cinema. "Silent...

If you're wondering why the last 20 years has felt like something was missing, it's because John Woo hasn't given us a Hollywood action flick since 2003's "Paycheck." The legendary Chinese filmmaker is responsible for some of the greatest films of all time and remains the patron saint of Gun Fu. Woo has been continuing to make films in China, with his most recent, 2017's "Manhunt" a return to form in the same vein as "The Killer." But if you've been missing heroic Hollywood bloodshed like "Face/Off" or "Hard Target," now is the time to rejoice as Woo is back with "Silent Night," a dialogue-free Christmas action film starring Joel Kinnaman of "The Killing," "Suicide Squad," and "For All Mankind" fame. This is the perfect time for Woo's return, as films like "Nobody" and the "John Wick" franchise owe their existence to his filmography. In fact, "John Wick" producers Basil Iwanyk...

John Wick just wanted to retire and live a happy, peaceful life with his Beagle puppy, but instead he's been kicking butts and taking names for nearly a decade since "John Wick" premiered in theaters in 2014. Directed by stuntman Chad Stahelski, the franchise follows Keanu Reeves as John Wick, who is one of the most amazing assassins to have ever lived. In "John Wick: Chapter 4," John must face off against the High Table, who control the worldwide cabal of assassins, and hopefully earn his freedom from a life of murder for money once and for all. (You can read our review here!) The latest film, directed by Stahelski and written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, stars Reeves along with franchise favorites Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, and the late Lance Reddick, along with newcomers Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, and Scott Adkins. The very foundation of the John Wick franchise is the entire stunt crew at 87eleven Productions which the director, Chad Stahelski, founded with fellow action movie director David Leitch. 87eleven is a company comprised of stunt performers for the making of such action films as the John Wick franchise, Day Shift and many more. Keanu Reeves has had a collaborating relationship with the company from the ground floor as Stahelski was Reeves’ stunt double in the original The Matrix trilogy. With Reeves being such a giving individual, Variety reports that the actor who portrays the Baba Yaga had gifted the stunt crew of John Wick: Chapter 4 commemorative presents to celebrate the wrapping of such elaborate, demanding action sequences.
According to the New York Times, “At the end of the shoot, Reeves made T-shirts for the stunt performers emblazoned with the number of times they were slain over the course of the entire movie.

Keanu Reeves has reportedly gifted customised T-shirts to John Wick: Chapter 4’s stunt crew.
The 58-year-old actor, who has often been called the “nicest guy in Hollywood”, gifted the film’s stunt performers T-shirts that bore the number of times they had died over the course of the entire film.
For some, the number was over 20.
Fight coordinator Jeremy Marinas, discussed scenes from the film with The New York Times, including one which takes place on a flight of steps leading up to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris.
“It’s like, of course that’s what you want,” he said of the scene which involved 35 stunt performers. “You want 100 guys falling down the stairs and you want me to make every reaction and fall different. Of course you do. It was like we were just [at] another day at work.

Keanu Reeves lovingly wanted all of the “John Wick: Chapter 4” stuntmen to remember just how many times they died during the making of the blockbuster action movie. A new report from The New York Times about the making of the sequel’s unforgettable action scenes includes a detail about Reeves gifting the film’s stunt crew with t-shirts that had the number of deaths each stunt person faced in the movie. For some of the stunt crew, that number was above 20.
Why so many death scenes per one stunt person? It’s because “John Wick: Chapter 4” re-used stunt workers in multiple scenes. For the instant classic staircase fight, in which Reeves’ John Wick fights bad guys as he races up the 222 steps leading to the Sacré-Coeur Basilica (only to be pushed back down to the bottom and have to do it all over again), the production used 35 stunt workers,...

This post contains spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4."
For what could very well be the final major set piece in the mainline "John Wick" series (spinoffs are coming), it makes sense that director Chad Stahelski and his incredible team of stunt performers would want to create the biggest, loudest scene they could. The climax ends up being a triptych of a sequence that takes place at three different locations: the Arc de Triomphe, an abandoned house of some kind, and finally the massive staircase leading to Sacré-Cœr. Some, including myself, would say it's a bit too much action, but there are unquestionably moments within this nearly 40 minute stretch that I marveled at.
Mostly, this occurred on the staircase, with dozens of assassins attempting to take down Keanu Reeves' titular hero before reaching the top for his duel with the Marquis de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård). Where it differs from the...

Creating the fight choreography and stunts for a "John Wick" flick is a pretty massive responsibility. The films hinge on the fierce and frenetic fight scenes: People flock to theaters to see John Wick (Keanu Reeves) fight in both hand-to-hand combat and various kinds of gun-fu with a whole host of baddies. For "John Wick: Chapter 4," the latest and greatest sequel in the franchise, stunt coordinators Stephen Dunlevy and Scott Rogers really had their work cut out for them, creating fight scenes between Reeves and martial arts legends like Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sonata. Look, this is a franchise that was created by a stuntman (series creator and director Chad Stahelski), so these stunts have to be immaculate.

The “John Wick” franchise has a reputation for razzle-dazzle filmmaking and serving as demo reels for some of the world’s finest – or at least most promising – action movie stars. “John Wick: Chapter 4” is no exception, with Donnie Yen taking center stage alongside franchise star Keanu Reeves, as Hiroyuki Sanada and Marko Zaror lend prestige and support. Bringing the opposite of “prestige,” at least in terms of the role he plays in the Chad Stahelski-directed actioner, is Scott Adkins.
Adkins has made a name for himself as one of the preeminent filmmakers in the world of direct-to-consumer (DVD/VOD/streaming/etc.) action movies. The likes of Adkins, Michael Jai White, Tony Jaa, Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren hold court in low-budget genre flicks helmed by directors like Isaac Florentine, Jesse V. With beloved action franchises such as “The Matrix” and “John Wick” under his belt, Keanu Reeves knows the importance of stunt workers more than most actors. As reported by People magazine, the actor marked the end of production on “John Wick 4” by gifting the film’s four-man stunt team personalized Rolex Submariner watches as a thank you for their hard work on the upcoming action tentpole. Reeves’ stunt team on the film was made up of Bruce Concepcion, Jeremy Marinas, Dave Camarillo, and Li Qiang.

One of the more interesting actors to watch over the past few years has been Keanu Reeves, with a filmography that includes dramas such as My Own Private Idaho to action films such as Speed to science fiction films such as The Matrix. What the actor has yet to do, however, is take the directorial reins of a film, something he looks to change with his next project. Titled Man of Tai Chi, the film is written by Michael G. Cooney, and Reeves stars in a supporting role alongside directing, with The Matrix stuntman Tiger Hu Chen taking the lead role, joined by Iko Uwais and Jeremy Marinas. A new trailer for the film has now been released, and can be seen below.

Although it was widely reported last June that Lionsgate intended to split Mockingjay, the third book in Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games trilogy, into two films, Nina Jacobson, the producer who has been credited with discovering the series, says that decision is "not set in stone" and they are "still figuring it all out."
While those early reports of turning the series of three books into four eventual movies involved splitting Mockingjay in two, similar to what was done with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Jacobson told MTV during The Hunger Games' premiere this past Monday that the decision will depend on the reception of the first film, set for release next week. "Hopefully, people love this movie enough to demand the next one," she said. "Go make that one. Figure out what to do from there."

Wait a second! Isn't the U.S. supposed to be the one with the crazy uptight stick up its ass when it comes to cinema content?!? The UK is Always stealing our thunder, damn it!
According to Variety, Lionsgate U.K. has opted to shave seven seconds off Gary Ross' adaptation of The Hunger Games for Brit audiences in order to achieve a 12A classification in the territory.
The film, which has received a PG-13 rating in the U.S. from the MPAA, was originally given an uncut 15 certificate from the British Board of Film Classification, but Lionsgate was keen to "achieve a particular category" to reach a wider audience in the U.K.
Kids under the age of 12 are allowed to watch 12A films at cinemas if they are taken by an adult. According to the BBFC, "a number of cuts were made in one scene to reduce...

"[On Wednesday] we saw the biggest first day advance ticket sales in our company’s nearly 12-year history – which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel."
Theater owners are continuing to add new showtimes while fans are scooping up advance tickets on Fandango.com.
Not convinced you should buy your tickets now? Check out this video message to the citizens of Panem from Elizabeth Banks, one of the film's stars.
