This post contains spoilers for episode 9 of "Andor."
With the latest episode of "Andor," "Stars Wars" has never been so bleak. The previous episode, "Narkina 5," offered us a terrifying glimpse into the Empire's industrial prison complex and how it affects those abused by the system. As if things were not already hellish enough for Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), who is currently stuck in the prison complex, episode 9 significantly raises the stakes when it comes to the fate of the prison inmates on Narkina 5.
There is a fresh rumor circulating in the prison complex: something terrible happened in Level 2. The inherent nature of the prison's power dynamics, which alienates inmates from one another and thrives on mini theaters of punishment, prevents this news from having the impact it should have. As a result, there is a consistent lack of clear communication between the different groups, which makes it difficult for Cassian...

“Pivot.” It’s a mantra and a directive if you want to survive in the entertainment industry during a global pandemic. That turn can mean complex protocols including testing on a daily basis while you load onto a set in a very specific way. For visual-effects companies, it’s reimagining a craft that was already primed to create solutions for the rest of the industry.
Big-name visual-effects houses had projects in the pipeline when lockdowns started all over the world. The first move for many was to relocate workers off site and out of danger with the right equipment and strengthened security protocols. These changes upped costs for some, but didn’t shut them down.
“What happened is on 36-hour notice, we’re all working from home,” says Lon Molnar, co-president of Monsters Aliens Robots Zombies (Marz), a Toronto-based visual- effects house specializing in TV VFX that has done work for “Watchmen,...

There is new hope that Congress will come to an agreement on a Covid-19 relief package that can pass in the lame duck session, albeit the latest proposals are vastly scaled back from those advanced by Democrats earlier this year.
The two options — a framework from a bipartisan group of lawmakers and another advanced by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell — do include relief aimed at theaters and live event venues.
On Thursday, McConnell said that “compromise is within reach. We know where we agree.” That followed an announcement from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-ny) that they back a $908 billion proposal from a bipartisan group of lawmakers called the problem solvers caucus. That is far less than the $2.2 trillion proposal that Pelosi pushed for and the House passed in early October, but Pelosi and Schumer called on McConnell to use the bipartisan proposal as the framework for negotiations.

Republican leaders continue to embarrass themselves by not acknowledging reality, and the growing number of world leaders who’ve shown no problem facing the truth is making the GOP look even more pathetic.
Three full days have passed since the 2020 election was called in favor of Joe Biden and, astonishingly, the number of congratulations from foreign leaders has far exceeded those from Republican officeholders.
According to NBC News’ count, only four current GOP senators, six members of Congress, and three governors have broken from the cult of Trump to express acknowledgment,...

The rookies of NYC 22 won't be honing their police skills on CBS much longer. The network has cancelled the cop series before the entire season has finished airing.
NYC 22 follows a half dozen police men and women as they learn the ropes in the Big Apple. The ensemble cast includes Adam Goldberg, Leelee Sobieski, Stark Sands, Judy Marte, Harold House Moore, Felix Solis, Tom Reed, and Terry Kinney.
Debuting on April 15th, in (now-cancelled) CSI: Miami's former timeslot, NYC 22 attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.86 million viewers. The second episode dropped 7% and the third fell 14% more. Last Sunday night's episode maintained a 1.2 in the demo and 6.87 million.
It was clear from the start that this new show was doomed to be cancelled.

CBS aired the season (possibly series) finale of CSI: Miami a couple weeks ago and are now filling the timeslot with a new cop show, NYC 22. Will this TV series last as long as its predecessor or will it be cancelled instead?
NYC 22 follows a diverse group of six rookie cops who are learning what it means to be members of the NYPD. The TV show's cast includes Adam Goldberg, Harold House Moore, Judy Marte, Leelee Sobieski, Stark Sands, Terry Kinney, and Tom Reed. It's produced in association with Robert De Niro's Tribecca Productions.
The cop drama debuted on April 15th to a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.43 million total viewers. It was tied for second place in the all-important demo but first in overall viewers.

All too often, the neighborhoods that need police the most are those where residents trust cops the least.
It's a tough situation for those who live there and for those trying to patrol the streets. CBS' latest drama, "NYC 22," premiering Sunday, April 15, has that delicate relationship as an undercurrent.
Though those involved with a show are always quick to dismiss the notion that it's anything we have seen before, this is a procedural cop show, albeit one with excellent credentials: Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal are executive producers, and Richard Price created it. It could not be more authentic New York, given the people behind it.
On a cold December day, the show is shooting at Amsterdam Avenue and 105th Street. It's a neighborhood of old apartment buildings and newer condos, shared by Columbia University students and longtime residents.

CBS has had no shortage of success with its cop-related dramas. In fact, for the 2011-12 season, the network has six shows in the top 20 that are based on police or military folks doing investigations. But with programs like "CSI" showing their age, it's no surprise that the network would look to insert some fresh blood into their line up. The most recent effort is "NYC 22."
The Robert De Niro-produced show follows a group of police rookies as they learn the ropes and learn about themselves while fighting crime. If this logline sounds familiar, it's probably the exact same pitch producers gave with "Rookie Blue" and countless other cop dramas.
The series features a United Nations of characters including Adam Goldberg as a former reporter, Leelee Sobieski as an ex Marine MP, Harold House Moore as a former NBA player in addition to Tom Reed, Judy Marte and Stark Sands.

Chicago – “NYC 22” reminds me of a cover song by a really strong bar band. You can admire the craftsmanship. It doesn’t hit any wrong notes. And it reminds you of what you like about the original. But it can’t replace it. “NYC 22” is so derivative of other programs that it is constantly fighting with itself because it exposes its own flaws through the comparison. It feels like “NYPD Blue” and “Southland,” but those are the brilliant originals. This is the cover version.

As the networks roll out their fall schedules, CBS gets a chance to spend a lot of its day milling around the free snack table while surfing for new Apps. Whatever your thoughts might be on whether or not CBS has hot women, and is or isn't a network for old people (which it A- does, and B- nevertheless largely is), the fact is that they aren't rolling out a lot of new shows. P.S. don't write letters, if you haven't heard about CBS claiming it isn't for old people (or just for old people, I suppose) and has "hot women," that's not my fault.
You could go either way with the general idea that CBS is only putting out five new shows, while the other networks seem to have more new shows than they can juggle at once. On the one hand, CBS might be resting on its...

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the fourth announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on CBS.
Still faring well, though not as indomitable as it used to be, CBS made headlines more this year for the antics of "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen than any of its other shows. With Ashton Kutcher now replacing Sheen, the new look 'Men' is staying in the same time slot and you can bet the network is desperately hoping it'll perform as well.
In any case, CBS is actually making some significant changes this year in terms of scheduling. Most notably the new J.J. Abrams series "Person of Interest" is getting the highly coveted Thursday 9pm slot which has been the home of the original "CSI" for the past decade,...

CBS announced its 2011-2012 primetime fall schedule today. The most anticipated show for me is J.J. Abrams' Person of Interest starring Jim Caviezel, Michael Emmerson and Taraji P. Henson. I am also a huge fan of Kat Dennings, so it will be neat to see how 2 Broke Girls turns out. There are a total of three new dramas, two new comedies, and 19 returning series.
Here is the press release:
CBS announced today its new 2011-2012 primetime schedule, ordering five new series and making key time-period moves for CSI and The Good Wife to strengthen its already top-rated primetime lineup. CBS will, once again, finish the season as America's most watched network, marking the eighth time it has done so in the last nine years.

Two and a Half Men is staying put and CSI is getting the boot.
CBS unveiled its fall scheduled keeping Big Bang Theory on Thursdays and shifts veteran CSI from its longtime Thursday night anchor slot.
The network announced several new drams. J.J. Abrams’ Person of Interest stars Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson as an ex-cia agent and a billionaire who team to stop crimes. Interest gets to take over the coveted CSI spot on Thursdays. CBS also shifted The Good Wife to Sundays. “To move CSI out of that time period you need big guns and we do,” says CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler.

CBS placed more orders today for fall shows, including a new drama from Robert De Niro and another one that was previously dubbed The Rememberer (thank God, though, the title was changed).

It stars Adam Goldberg, Leelee Sobieski, Tom Reed, Terry Kinney, and Stark Sands. After spending untold amounts of cash on hundreds of dramas and comedies — most of which will never make it to your living rooms — the five broadcast networks will begin announcing in New York next week which projects are good enough to earn a coveted fall pickup. (NBC and Fox will present their fall schedule to advertisers on Monday, followed by ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and the CW on Thursday).
Buzz is already strong for several projects (for more on the hot ones, click here). But every year, we always wonder what diamond-in-the-rough was left on the cutting room...
