Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter Emmy Russell is still in the running to become the Season 22 winner of American Idol, and the singer made a strong case for keeping her around as she debuted an original song on April 14. The date happened to coincide with what would have been the country icon’s 92nd birthday.
For the Top 20 round, Russell performed “Want You,” an affecting ballad about emotional reassurance. “I want you to want me like I want you/I want you to need me like I need you,” the 25-year-old sang for the judges.

On Dec. 18, 1987, MGM unveiled Norman Jewison’s romantic comedy Moonstruck in theaters, where it would go on to gross $80 million. The film nabbed six Oscar nominations at the 60th Academy Awards, winning best actress for Cher’s performance, best supporting actress for Olympia Dukakis’ role and screenplay for John Patrick Shanley’s script. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
Deck the halls and crack open the eggnog. The already impressive yuletide movie season has hit new heights with the arrival of Norman Jewison’s Moonstruck.
A romantic comedy that doesn’t skimp in either department, Jewison’s celebration of The Family, as captured by the pen of screenwriter John Patrick Shanley, expertly weaves the spell of a Capra or a Lubitsch. With its universal appeal, expect MGM to reap the lion’s share of box-office cheer.

The cast and creators of Only Murders in the Building reunited for a For Your Consideration event in Los Angeles on Thursday, where they opened up about season three’s hottest topic: Meryl Streep.
Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Michael Cyril Creighton, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and showrunner John Hoffman joined moderator Judd Apatow for a screening and conversation at the Academy Museum; Streep was also scheduled to take part in the event but came down with the flu.
In season three, Streep’s newcomer character, Loretta, begins a romantic relationship with Short’s Oliver Putnam, in what Apatow joked was the sexiest performance of Short’s career.
“I will tell you honestly, I’ve known Meryl a little bit through the years but on the first day of shooting, I was a little unusually nervous for me, because I was thinking, ‘I’m doing a two-person scene with Meryl Streep,...

Not a single human on this or any other continent was surprised that Meryl Streep was nominated for a 2024 Golden Globe on Monday morning for her energetic and uproarious supporting performance in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” The instant her name was read, she became a heavy favorite to win, too. It would be her ninth Globe statuette if it comes to pass on January 7 (if you don’t count her career achievement Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2017). Ho hum, just another day.
It’s already long since been established that Streep is consistently the greatest actress of our time, as effective doing comedy as she’s riveting performing drama. And yet maybe because she’s as dependable as the sunrise, it’s absurdly easy to take her and her achievements for granted. For instance, it’s been a dozen years since she won her last Globe – in...

The only way to reach Todd Snider is to call his landline. He’s never had a cell phone. Never cared to own one, either. If you want to find him, hopefully he’s home when you ring or you’re lucky enough to run into him by happenstance.

More than 50 years after its premiere, "M*A*S*H" is still one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. The show became a phenomenon across its 11 seasons and bowed out on a high note with a finale that was watched by millions. The show also became so firmly entrenched in the cultural zeitgeist that decades later, viewers are still curious about the cast and the relationships behind the scenes. There have been some great recent reunions in recent years -- for one, Mike Farrell and Alan Alda read (and then criticized) an AI-written "M*A*S*H" script earlier this year. Unfortunately, several key "M*A*S*H" castmates have passed away over the years, leaving us to remember them through their work and through memories shared by loved ones and costars.

Has Ben Glenroy’s killer already been unmasked?
During Only Murders in the Building‘s penultimate Season 3 episode, Charles, Oliver and Mabel piece together the night of CoBro’s murder and deduce that Death Rattle producer Donna DeMeo poisoned her leading man. Fearing one bad review — the shredded document! — would taint Cliff’s Broadway debut (and end her son’s career before it even began), Donna laced one of Ben’s beloved Schmackary’s cookies with rat poison. He ate — nay, inhaled — the cookie, then wrote “f–king pig” on his own dressing room mirror before going out on stage.

So, it wasn't Dickie or Loretta?
While it was fun piecing together the clues about who Ben's killer might be, one can never be sure about the person they think is the killer, and that's the beauty of the show.
The killer usually turns out to be the person one would least expect, and no one expected that to be Donna.
Only Murders In the Building Season 3 Episode 9 saw the trio reunite and recreate the last thirty minutes before Ben passed out on stage, and after hitting several dead ends, they finally emerged with the lead suspect.
Even if Mabel, Oliver, and Charles had not been working together for most of the season, they did not lose their regular beat, and when they dove into Ben's case together, it was like they always were together.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Only Murders in the Building” Season 3, Episode 8.
In Tuesday’s new episode of “Only Murders in the Building,” audiences learned that Loretta (Meryl Streep) is the biological mother of murder victim Ben Glenroy’s adopted brother Dickie (Jeremy Shamos). The Hulu comedy’s showrunner, John Hoffman, credited writer Elaine Coe for Season 3’s biggest twist yet.
“It was an early pitch that helped us frame the entire season. We had Meryl Streep in our show, and we knew we needed to do some deep diving and give her something with heft, with mystery around her, and that dimensionalized that character,” he told TheWrap in an interview facilitated through his personal publicist and conducted in accordance with WGA guidelines. “We reframe Loretta’s story and how she came to even be in this play, and how her whole life was leading up to it, which...

This changes Everything!
Every season has its turning point.
Only Murders in the Building has always had certain episodes that change everything, and Only Murders In the Building Season 3 Episode 8 was one such episode.
The cold open teased Loretta's elimination from the suspect pool, but everything that transpired in that short time changed our notions about her.
Suddenly, some things that never made sense about her life became clear. Her hate for Ben Glenroy finally made sense when she revealed that she was a mother and had given up her child for adoption.
This wasn't a shocking revelation for me because one of our readers had pointed out that it might be a possibility on the Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Episode 5 review, but even if they thought Ben was Loretta's child, it was close.
As a reader, you also have a unique insight into the show, which...

Monty Python star John Cleese has revealed he plans to ditch the famous song ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ from his new stage adaptation of religious satire The Life Of Brian.
One of the most memorable scenes from the 1979 hit film was the finale when Brian (Graham Chapman) and his disciples broke into the song as they were being crucified.
Cleese told the UK’s Mail on Sunday that he considered the scene “too predictable.” He said:
“It was shocking in 1979. It was absolutely astonishing.
“People thought it was hilarious, they screamed with laughter. Well, nobody is going to be shocked now – the joke is 40 years old.
“People do love the song but do we want to end with something that’s completely predictable?”
And Cleese added that he will also ditch the scene where ‘Romans Go Home’ is written in graffiti, because the language is much...

Imagine if "Zodiac" happened far away from the warm and idyllic confines of California. In the frigid (and heavily-accented) Northeast, one very real-life killer stalked a number of victims that nobody ever really cared about — certainly not enough for the police and other authorities to actually link together as the work of one sick mind. Where's Robert Downey, Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal when you need them, huh?
As much as that 2007 David Fincher classic helped create a renewed interest in true crime that's now all the rage these days, the latest installment in this darkly appealing subgenre is taking on a much different approach. For one thing, "Boston Strangler" is skipping theaters entirely, in case you forgot we're now in the Streaming Era for better or worse. For another, the investigative action this time is led by the tag-team of Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon, of "The Leftovers" fame and acclaim.

20th Century and Hulu unveiled the trailer for “Boston Strangler,” the true-crime thriller about the journalists who cracked the case of the infamous 1960s murders.
Keira Knightley stars as Loretta McLaughlin, a reporter for the Record-American newspaper who strikes out on her own when her sexist superiors get in the way of her investigation. She’s joined by her colleague Jean Cole (Carrie Coon) in her quest to uncover the truth.
At the top of the trailer, Loretta makes a connection between three murders that occurred within two weeks of each other, but her boss (Chris Cooper) tells her, “You’re on the lifestyle desk. You’re not covering a homicide.”
When she’s told she doesn’t have a story, Loretta asks: “How many women have to die before it’s a story?”

Like a dutiful eldest child, Matt Smukler’s debut feature, Wildflower, adheres to the conventions of its genre. The high-spirited coming-of-age story, which follows Bea, a plainspoken teenager navigating life with neurodivergent parents, has the tumultuous high-school drama, the cheeky romance with a bashful love interest, the fight with the spunky best friend and the undulating moods of wonky relatives in desperate need of filters. These requisite beats are fulfilled by a gallery of distinctive characters. Wildflower, inspired by Smukler’s family, might not be a radical departure from films of its type, but it does offer buoyant performances from both fresh and familiar faces.
Kiernan Shipka (of Mad Men and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) leads an endearing troupe of actors with her animated portrayal of Bea. We meet her character as she lies comatose in a hospital bed, surrounded by worried family members.

Reclusive author Loretta Sage writes about exotic places in her popular adventure novels that feature a handsome cover model named Alan. While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta gets kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire who hopes she can lead him to an ancient city’s lost treasure from her latest story. Determined to prove he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books, Alan sets off to rescue her.
After watching countless ads on television for Adam and Aaron Nee’s The Lost City, I was dreading the day when I’d eventually have to watch it. It looked like an absolutely awful, terribly written, and cameo-filled mess.
