I've always been a fan of the Mississippi-born Marty Stuart. The dude can play just about any style of Americana and his latest effort -- Way Out West -- expands his musical universe to include some real tasty surf 'n' twang. Produced by Tom Petty and The Heartbreaker's guitarist Mike Campbell, you know the amps are going to be cranked, but crisp, the playing tight, but not too tight, and the tunes catchy as hell -- not a clunker in the lot. Happy to report you can check all those boxes. Add Marty's "fabulous" backing band, His Fabulous Superlatives, who are just that, and you have the recipe for some real fine ear candy. And let's give props to guitarist Kenny Vaughn who has always been one of Nashville's guitarists guitarists, and as usual he gets to shine. On the surfabilly instrumental "Torpedo" you can frug to the two guitars,...

I’m not gonna lie, with how hard it is to find something unique and interesting to say about every festival lineup hitting the Edm blogosphere, it’s refreshing that Electric Forest found such an interesting way to release their’s this time around.
As part of a promotional campaign, the Rothbury, Michigan festival mailed card stock slips with groups of artist names printed on each one to festival goers and encouraged them to record and upload videos of each reveal.
…And actually, some of them are pretty entertaining. Take, for instance, this video uploaded by the Electric Forest attendee who received the Flosstradamus and Disco Biscuits announcement:
Or the ones who received the Duke Dumont, Baauer and Bro Safari announcement:
In case you don’t have enough time to watch enough videos to find out all 64 of the artists on Electric Forest‘s 2016 roster, we’ve provided the full list below.

Exclusive: Swedish director working with Breaking Bad producer Mark Johnson.
Andreas Ohman, the Swedish writer/director of 2010 Oscar-shortlisted drama Simple Simon, is attached to direct a Us remake of the film.
A Us writer is now being confirmed for the project, and Ohman will travel to Los Angeles this autumn to start collaborating on the film, which is expected to shoot in 2016.
Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad) is producing.
The original comedy, Simple Simon, is about an 18-year-old with Asperger’s syndrome who tries to play matchmaker for his brother.
“I’m very confident with the story and feel like I’ve personally developed so much since I was 24 (and shot the first film),” said Ohman.
“It’s similar, but it’s a new take. Doing it in another language also helps to make it different… it also feels like my next step should be an international movie.”

Ahead of the Swedish release of Force Majeure, the director spoke about his next project at Way Out West.
Director Ruben Östlund revealed at Gothenburg’s Way Out West Festival, the week preceding the Swedish release of his Un Certain Regard jury prize winner Force Majeure, his next film will again use a catastrophic moment as its defining conflict, this time focusing around apes and human behaviour.
“I like films that force the audience to ask questions, films that are experiments. In this case, I want to ponder how other influences change the way we fantasise about our lives,” explains Östlund.
His idea stems from a Vanity Fair article where Monica Lewinsky discussed guilt and sexuality, using the example of American girls that committed suicide after their boyfriends posted nude photos of them online.
Protective parents reacted by guarding their daughters’ bedsides, denouncing the possibility of overt sexual actions.
“Kids nowadays associate guilt with sexuality - it is...

This year’s festival saw 45% of its lineup coming from female directors, including Alone Together from Liza Minou Morberg [pictured].
Women took centre stage at Way Out West’s Film Festival, with head of film programming Svante Tidholm giving credit to 45% of its line-up deriving from female directors.
Headlining the film side of the joint music and film event was Alexandra Dahlström’s All We Have is Now that documents all-girl Swedish punk rock band Vulkano, and Liza Minou Morberg’s coming-of-age drama Alone Together detailing the friendship of three young women on their way to Way Out West.
Both films served as feature length directorial debuts.
“It was our privilege (and luck) to have two world premieres that were both directed by women, and also about strong women. We work closely with Sweden’s film industry, and one aim is to balance equality and gender. And from watching their films – you can immediately tell they are very...

Today’s documentary world seems to be living through the Age of Gibney: Having directed 20 nonfiction projects over the last eight years, with one Oscar under his belt and two films in contention, Alex Gibney is the hardest working man in socially progressive show business. How? Why? And where? Way out west, it turns out -- where Manhattan meets the Hudson, and the hurricane of last year left fewer changes than two decades of gentrification. When Alex Gibney came here 15 years ago, it was the home of ball-bearing factories, transvestite hookers and an assortment of dubious characters. Today? Well, the ball bearings are certainly gone. Instead, here’s a beehive of film production offices which Gibney oversees like the pope. In fact, in his office, with its panoramic view of the river, there’s a hilarious mock-up of a recent pontiff, in white and gold, with Gibney’s beatific face...

All-star music festivals are a dime a dozen every summer -- as, for that matter, are film festivals, at any time of year. Festivals that mix the two, however, are still relatively thin on the ground. The Us, famously, has South by Southwest in the spring, and for the last three years, the Swedes have taken a leaf from their playbook (right down to the hat-tipping name) with the Way Out West fest, which takes place this year in Gothenberg on the weekend of August 8 to 10. Of course, the Swedish festival is a more compact affair, and one whose...

Frank Ocean has elected to forego the European stretch of his tour with Coldplay. The singer is also canceling appearances at multiple concerts, including Way Out West in Sweden, the V Festival, Bestival and Pukkelpop.
"Let me start by saying I feel like an asshole right now," a statement released by Ocean begins. "But a tough decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next months and the casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming festivals in Europe and my opening slot on the European leg of the Coldplay world tour. Sorry as f--k, I'll be back if you'll have me."
Billboard notes that Ocean also stopped in the middle of a gig at the Oya Festival in Norway. Vocal problems were given as the reason for the abrupt ending.
Touring with Coldplay is a pretty big get, so it's hard to imagine the rationale behind Ocean's decision.

The year could not be going better for soothing folk act Bon Iver, who took home two Grammys back in February for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album for their self-titled 2011 effort. Heck, frontman Justin Vernon has even found himself as a spokesman for Bushmills Irish Whiskey and the subject of a popular jokey Tumblr called "Bon Iver Erotic Stories."
Things are going so well for Bon Iver in fact, that the band has added seven additional U.S. dates to their run in September, including Boston, Providence and Philly. With the addition of two shows at Radio City Music Hall, the tour also now boasts four consecutive nights at the iconic New York City venue. The dates were added after the September 19 and 20 shows immediately sold out.

We're picking out your finest responses to our My favourite film series, for which Guardian writers have selected the movies they go back to time and again.
Here's a roundup of how you responded in week five, when the selections were Dead Poets Society, The Thing, Blow-Up, The 39 Steps, Little Shop of Horrors, Way Out West and Double Indemnity
The fifth week of our My favourite film series opened with an act of defiance. Sarfraz Manzoor had the floor. He spoke of passion and inspiration, of the courage in seizing the moment. He covered romance and skipped realism, asked for your heart, promised adventure. And, one by one, you read his piece on Dead Poets Society, gave your classmates a nudge and laughed him off the lectern.
"Oh Sarfraz! Captain my captain, how could you?," said MyLeftFoot. "It really is the most cliche-ridden load of baloney." "Appropriate time to have...

HollywoodNews.com: According to the tabloids, Drew Barrymore and Justin Long have plenty of romantic history in real life. But in Going the Distance, they deal with the very real challenge of keeping a relationship alive from two separate cities (one supposes in comparison to separate movie productions). The new film, directed by American Teen documentarian-turned-feature filmmaker Nanette Burstein, is a funny, sweet and surprisingly sensitive portrait of long-distance romance, and Long and Barrymore do a terrific job bringing it to life.
Hollywood News recently sat down with Barrymore, Long, and the rest of the film’s cast and crew at the Los Angeles press day for Going the Distance. In addition to talking about some of the more interesting challenges of long-distance relationships, including phone sex, the duo addressed their first on screen kiss, and talked about keeping a straight face while sharing the screen with...
