The episode of The Best of the Bad Guys focusing on Damien Thorn was written, narrated, and edited by Mike Holtz.
The Prince of Darkness. Heir to both Hell and Thorn Industries. The antichrist himself and guy who gets his haircut at Great Clips, Damien Thorn. The titular character of The Omen franchise will be praised not by his usual followers but by us as we dive into the second edition of The Best Of The Bad Guys, where we rank the best work of cinema’s most evil villains.
Damien Thorn’s run of evil has spanned five films including an utterly pointless shot-for-shot remake and a TV series with another prequel on the way in The First Omen. And though The Omen IV: The Awakening doesn’t follow Damien himself; his presence is felt. The franchise started in 1976 with legendary director Richard Donner giving us the first version...

After the disaster that was M. Night Shyamalan‘s adaptation of Nickelodeon’s brilliant animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The Exorcist sequel, The Exorcist: Believer, didn’t wow horror fans or critics in 2022. 20th Century Studios is hoping for a better reception for their The Omen prequel, The First Omen. The minute-long official trailer suggests that “to control those who don’t believe, create something to fear.” That warning comes as snippets of nuns, priests, and other characters are shown moving in reverse.
The first trailer’s release was accompanied by the debut of the teaser poster.
Servant‘s Nell Tiger Free stars in the psychological horror film, which is based on characters created in The Omen by author David Seltzer. The cast also includes Tawfeek Barhom (Mary Magdalene), Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Ralph Ineson (The Northman), and Bill Nighy (Living).

There are literally hundreds of films and TV shows about or featuring King Arthur going back well over a century – there are silent films, musicals, animated films, comedies, dramas. You name it, there is a King-Arthur-themed version of it. There are not a small number of “Best of…” lists floating around the internet as well. But how do you know which of the recommendations is really going to scratch your King Arthur-shaped itch?
MGM+’s new series about King Arthur, The Winter King, is a combination of gritty historical fiction and “low” fantasy. It is also fairly grim and violent. But there are lots of different ways to tell a story about King Arthur and his knights, with or without round table, Merlin, the Lady of the Lake and so on. The Vikings: Vallhalla review is spoiler free
The first season of Vikings spin-off Vikings: Valhalla had a lot to recommend it, from its sprawling cast of major characters and nuanced exploration of the tension between politics and religion to its massive action setpieces and incredible production values. But after a first season that saw a Viking army literally bring down London Bridge, many viewers are probably wondering where on earth the second season of Valhalla could possibly go next. And the answer is: Literally everywhere.
The second season of Vikings: Valhalla is bigger and bolder in every sense of the word, from the scope of its setting and the breadth of stories it’s telling to the sheer number of characters onscreen. There are more storylines, more bloodshed, and even more physical countries than we’ve ever seen before, as the primary narrative fractures into several major arcs and each...

There have been dozens upon dozens of wartime epics committed to the screen, but none look like “The Liberator.” I mean this quite literally: after getting stuck in a lengthy development hell at the History channel once it became clear how expensive it would be to film, “The Liberator” team made a calculated artistic choice to shift from eight live-action episodes to four animated ones that would significantly slash costs and bring a jolt of unique energy to the production. The version of “The Liberator” premiering Nov. 11 on Netflix, produced in conjunction with Trioscope Studios, reveals a striking combination of animation and live-action performance that feels like a graphic novel come to life.

Other than a few non-fiction specials and cable blocks, the closest TV is coming to celebrating Veterans Day this year is with Netflix’s four-part The Liberator: a limited series made very watchable by the decision to use rotoscope-flavored animation, but rendered vaguely infuriating by inconsistent focus and narrative choices.

The new Netflix miniseries The Liberator is a World War II story about brave men who bond through that terrifying experience, and who say things like, “Fear is a reaction; courage is a decision.” It is similar, in all ways but two, to dozens and dozens of filmed tales set amid that event, in particular the HBO classic Band of Brothers. But those two ways are fairly interesting, even if The Liberator doesn’t always take full advantage of them.

Netflix has been the home to some truly unique projects, and one of the most interesting looking additions is animated World War II series The Liberator. The show is based on Alex Kershaw’s book The Liberator: One World War II Soldier’s 500-Day Odyssey, and tells the story of Felix Sparks, a soldier from small town Arizona that ends up involved in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp.
Die Hard and The Fugitive writer Jeb Stuart is the creative mind behind the ambitious small screen effort, which is set to premiere on Veteran’s Day, and the first trailer has now arrived and based on the visuals alone, The Liberator looks to be well worth checking out. The realistic animation brings to mind the rotoscoping techniques used by Richard Linklater in the likes of Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly, but set against the harrowing backdrop of World War II.

It’s been some five years since the last entry into the Underworld franchise – Underworld: Awakening, the third sequel to the 2003 original – no doubt because that film almost, Almost killed the series…. However as the saying goes, time heals and in the case of these movies that seems to be true. Not only has it been long enough for audiences to forget the risible fourth film, but the break in production also seems to have revitalised the filmmakers too – and this time round we have a film that truly lives up to the “vampires vs. werewolves” premise proffered so many years ago.

For 13 years we’ve been caught in the middle of Kate Beckinsale’s Lycan-hunting warfare, a streamlined franchise that’s sustained many tests of time, especially Beckinsale’s ageless taking to vampire purity. I wondered who dared asked for a fifth chapter in this R-rated Twilight for adults, and I was answered by a moderately full NYC movie theater audience, who hooted and hollered as Selene waged bloody retribution against both hairy and pale factions. People turned out for what’s essentially an H&M Bdsm orgy that’s interrupted by werewolves before any hanky panky can begin – but was their perseverance rewarded? By the grace of Nosferatu, Underworld: Blood Wars could have been way, Way worse. I’ll admit that.
As previously noted, Beckinsale once again returns as the famed “Death Dealer” Selene. Even with no memory of her daughter Eve’s whereabouts, she’s still hunted by Lycan...
