“All the Money in the World” screenwriter David Scarpa calls it “the day of infamy:” On October 29, actor Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of “making a sexual advance” 31 years ago, when Rapp was 14. Soon, others came forward with similar claims, and director Sir Ridley Scott went into action. “I didn’t exactly go, ‘Yipee!,'” he said. “I go into battle mode.”
Self described as “born competitive,” Scott recently told a Q&A audience: “Within hours, I said, ‘Right, I’m going to recast this.'” And with that he added an estimated 25 percent (about $10 million) to the film’s budget and made a kind of cinematic history, replacing the scandal-plagued Spacey with acting veteran Christopher Plummer.

There was initially a lot of promise for writer turned director Brian Helgeland’s career, his directorial debut was the entertaining 1999 adaptation of the Donald E. Following that up with a pair of Heath Ledger titles, A Knight’s Tale and the doomed The Order, we didn’t see Helgeland get in the director’s seat again until 2013 with 42. He’s sticking with based on true story stuff with this resurrection of the notorious Kray Bros., the subject of an enjoyable Peter Medak film from 1990, The Krays. Here, we have Tom Hardy playing the twin gangsters, one of the few performers that can supersede the shortcomings of Helgeland and co-star Emily Browning to nab a slot on our list (we’re also curious as to the absence of Violet Kray,...

Yes, we do know that he is the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Departed, but this is his first movie, and one reason more for us to chat about his upcoming London-based crime drama.
So, they already describe this as crime-drama-romance film. No wonder when we have this kind of synopsis: “Mitchell is finally free after a stint in prison for assault. A crony offers him a job as a loan-shark enforcer, and though Mitchell isn’t crazy about the idea, he doesn’t have any better offers.
He’s perfect for the job – mean and merciless. Buthe’s also got another, softer side:...

Keira Knightley and Colin Farrell have signed on to star in London Boulevard, a crime drama that marks the directing debut of The Departed scribe William Monahan. Monahan will also pen the screenplay, which is based on the Ken Bruen novel of the same name. The story revolves around a South London criminal (Farrell) who, after release from prison, tries to give up the gangster life by becoming a handyman for a reclusive young actress (Knightley). Along with The Departed, which earned him an Academy Award, Monahan wrote Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven and Body of Lies. He also penned the upcoming crime-drama Edge of Darkness, which stars Mel Gibson and hits theaters this fall. Graham King (Blood Diamond) is producing Boulevard under his Gk Films banner with Monahan and Quentin Curtis. Monahan and Curtis acquired rights to the novel last April. The film will shoot this summer in and around London.
