SAG-AFTRA leaders are being pressed to respond to stunt performers allegations of racism, nepotism, intimidation and slander.
The issue arose due to an open letter sent Wednesday on behalf of stunt performers who are Bipoc, women, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities. Signees asserted that their talents are overlooked, denied and discredited, professional opportunities foreclosed and careers foreshortened.
“We have watched from the outside as white stunt performers are painted down, suited/helmeted or men wigged in a grotesque simulation of those of us denied employment,” they said. “Modern-day blackface is Hollywood’s shameful secret. We’ve been taunted, ostracized, harassed and threatened simply for showing up or speaking up. We have been shut down, shut up and shut out for far too long.
In response, the performers union said, “SAG-AFTRA stands in solidarity with performers whose opportunities to work in stunt roles have been denied or limited because of bias against women,...

Need to catch up? Check out the previous This Is Us recap here.
There are some Friday nights under the lights that even Coach Taylor wouldn’t be able to save.
Kevin has one of ’em in this week’s This Is Us, which chronicles two fraught nights in the Pearson sibling’s life: one where he first busts his knee, thus ending his dreams of collegiate and professional football glory, and one where he returns to his high school, literally high, and makes a chain of very poor choices.
And that’s all before the episode’s worst development comes to light.

This year, we encountered so many notable movie characters that we could barely keep up.
Many of these faces were in fact familiar to us. Characters like Harley Quinn, Spider-Man, Batman, and The Joker all were revived by new actors in 2016 but since they previously existed, they didn't make this list. Now that 2016 is coming to a close, we're breaking down some of the best people we saw on screen this year. Some of them aren't even people and one of them isn't even alive, but still, they found a way into our hearts and were a stand-out aspect of the films in which they appeared. Here are our favourite movie characters of 2016! Holtzmann, Ghostbusters Holtzmann is the quirky scientist that pretty much made Ghostbusters worth the watch. Swiss Army Man (Daniels)
It’s rare we’d offer a recommendation of a film we didn’t love, but the mere fact that you won’t witness any other film like Swiss Army Man in this calendar year — or any other, for that matter — makes it worth a watch. Affectionally dubbed the “farting corpse drama” at Sundance this year, it finds Hank (Paul Dano) on a remote island by himself after a boating trip stranded him. Seconds...

Miranda Bailey is the producer of “The Diary of a Teenager Girl,” “Don’t Think Twice” (coming out later this month) and “Swiss Army Man,” which opens wide today. She is the CEO of Cold Iron Pictures, a production/financing company based in Los Angeles. She offered the following thoughts on one of her latest credits, “Swiss Army Man.”
What I’m about to tell you may come as a shock to you: Girls Fart, Too. That’s right, you heard it here first and we think it’s pretty funny also. That said, farting is not the reason Amanda Marshall and I decided to produce and partially finance “Swiss Army Man.” If you’ve seen the movie, you know it’s about two men stranded on an island where one of them is a corpse who constantly flatulates. You may be thinking, what on Earth would two women see...

Normally, you’d hear no complaints from me about Mistresses‘ Josslyn Carver hacking a rival’s cell phone, using his rotten texts for her professional gain, then celebrating with a giant glass of vodka (followed by a beer in a plastic cup).
After all, I cheered wildly in previous seasons when she explored the world of Japanese bondage rope, attempted to seduce her boss’ husband as part of a sex-lies-and-videotape sting operation, and work-work-work-worked from home* with her sister’s ex-husband. (*Thanks for the innuendo, ladies of Fifth Harmony!)

Last week, audiences got one of the oddest movies in some time with Swiss Army Man, an independent film unlike any other. Not only is this a singular cinematic experience, but over the weekend distributor A24 managed to have it open to solid limited theatrical box office. That unexpected success has not only buoyed an initially pegged as unmarketable flick, but has also shown off just how well A24 can handle tricky material. The movie easily could have been dumped, but they weren’t having that. For those who have seen it, it’s apparently a memorable experience, for better or worse, and that’s a special kind of an endorsement. How does one describe this movie? Well, in the broadest sense of the word, the plot follows a depressed man named Hank (Paul Dano) as he’s about to commit suicide on a deserted island. Right as his life...
