“I’ve got another family in Telford that I’ve never spoken about,” announces comedian and writer Holly Walsh on a Zoom press call. “Luckily, by writing this, it’s tax deductible.”
She’s joking of course. Since writing a sitcom pilot about two step-sisters who only discover each other’s existence after their dad’s death, Walsh keeps being asked if the premise is autobiographical. It isn’t, but The Other One is inspired by a true story she heard about a man with two families who gave his kids the same name to avoid confusion or being sprung. “I thought that’s such a brilliant story.”
Walsh and her writing partner Pippa Brown turned it into a six-episode sitcom about uptight, high-achieving Cathy (The Windsors and Ellie & Natasia‘s Ellie White) and freewheeling, fun-seeking Cat (Catastrophe and Misfits’ Lauren Socha). Half-sisters just five days apart in age, they...

Zombies seem to be a popular focus in the horror genre at the moment, with TV shows The Walking Dead bringing a new rejuvenated interest in the horror sub-genre. The success of the series seeming to be infectious, with a variety of zombie themed projects coming out every week, although most shuffle along without offering anything new to the genre.
Amongst the horde however you occasionally come across a breakout horror such as Shaun of the Dead (2004). A film which offers something different to the normal formula as both a homage and parody of the sub-genre. Where Shaun (Simon Pegg) pays homage to the influence of George Romero’s “of the Dead” series, Shed of the Dead uses Shaun as a familiar template and follows a similar infected vein with the balance of horror and comedy. Right from its opening scene – where a suspect is chased under a bus and his head squashed like a jam doughnut – No Offence marked itself out as a gripping cop show like no other. The brainchild of Shameless’ Paul Abbott, it smashes together lightning-paced police drama with dark comedy and lashings of soap opera. At the centre is impulsive detective constable Dinah Kowalska, played by Elaine Cassidy, who we caught up with on the phone ahead of the second series beginning tonight (January 4th) on Channel 4. Key to No Offence’s success, she told us, was the Paul Abbott factor.
“It is like when you really like a band and you are waiting for their next album,” she said. “No Offence felt like his next album after Shameless, even though he has written films and stuff since. Paul’s writing is unique. It is just about three degrees left of reality.

Yet the question remains: Why isn’t everyone watching Misfits?!
Now in its fifth season, the series features an all-new cast with none of the original characters. Why bother, you might ask? Bother, I retort! Tomorrow sees the return of dark comedy Misfits, the fifth – and final – series of the Howard Overman-created show.
Following a group of young offenders sentenced to work community service before a freak electrical storm endows them all with superpowers, season five transports us one year on from the event and focuses on how various characters are dealing with their new lives.
Throughout the series’ run, we’ve experienced moments of ingenious comedy interspersed with gruesome deaths, more probation workers than we can count and a total cast upheaval.
The original cast – Antonia Thomas, Iwan Rheon, Lauren Socha, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Robert Sheehan as Alisha Daniels, Simon Bellamy, Kelly Bailey, Curtis Donovan, and Nathan Young, respectively, are all gone.
In their place are Joseph Gilgun as Rudy Wade along with Karla Crome, Nathan McMullen, Matt Stokoe and Natasha O’Keeffe as Jess, Finn, Alex and Abbey Smith.

The "Once Upon A Time" spinoff has found its Alice.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 22-year-old actress Sophie Lowe will play Alice in the potential pilot, now called "Once: Wonderland" and Peter Gadiot has been cast as "Cyrus, Alice's mysterious love interest." Lowe has appeared in only Australian series and films while Gadiot's most notable role is in the British horror film "13Hrs."
The "Once Upon A Time" spinoff will tell the story of Alice, "who has a generous heart but carries the scars of a long hard life," according to Deadline.
In addition to Lowe and Gadiot, THR revealed that Michael Socha, brother of "Misfits" alum Lauren Socha, has been cast as the Knave of Hearts, "a sardonic adventurer, a man of action, a loner and a heart-breaker," according to Deadline.
Though rumor originally had it that Sebastian Stan was being recast for a Mad Hatter spinoff, "Once" co-creator Edward Kitsis said at Paleyfest,...

When Series 3 of the British science fiction comedy drama Misfits came to an end this time last year, it was difficult to imagine what could happen next and which characters would even return if the series were to continue. With the revelation that most of the cast would not be reprising their roles in this new series, and that the series would instead be led by original member Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), recent additions Rudy (Joseph Gilgun) and Seth (Matthew McNulty), and new characters Jess (Karla Crome) and Finn (Nathan McMullen), it could either pick up quite suitably, or, more than likely, could go completely downhill. Fortunately, whilst the series will never be as good without its original cast members together, it worked out quite well.

They're dropping like flies those boiler-suit wearing scamps! With Antonia Thomas (Alisha) and Iwan Rheon (Simon) being killed off (sort of) at the end of the last season, and actress Lauren Socha (Kelly) doing time for aggravated assault, a few new characters were needed to make up a team. See the new characters in action in the following trailer.. If you haven't heard of, or seen this yet I'd highly recommend it. It's funny, sexy, and sometimes brutally violent. There's an American remake coming our way soon too, so best check out the original (and let's face it, most likely best!) version now. The show returns for its fourth season this Sunday at 22.00 on E4.

I remember when Misfits used to be good. Following Simon, Kelly, Alisha, Curtis and, of course, the magnificent Nathan (above), the series, when it burst onto our TV screens in 2009, was one of the funniest, most original shows out there. Led by Nathan, portrayed by Robert Sheehan – the hysterical, sharp witted, unflinchingly sarcastic break-out character from the show – it was all anyone was talking about.
The plot was terrific, the characters each compelling, with Simon’s shy and somewhat dark persona, Kelly’s bad attitude and snappy retorts, Alisha’s “bad girl” sex appeal, Curtis’ shrouded past as a drugs cheat and Nathan’s fantastic humour, wit and retort, and apparent lack of a super power, the show had more than enough substance to it.
And then… and then… Well, metaphorically speaking, the turkey was carved and shred of all its juicy innards. First, Sheehan left the cast after series...

Chicago – I had been hearing for years about how smart and fun the British drama/sci-fi/comedy show “Misfits” was but I still had my doubts. Sometimes when a show comes with a bit too much hype, it can more easily disappoint. There’s nothing disappointing about “Misfits,” a show that’s constantly surprising, smart, and fun. The only disappointment is that we only have the first season on DVD and not the other three…yet.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
The quote on the front of the DVD case for “Misfits: Season One” is a bit misleading — “Heroes with Buffy-esque snark.” In no way is this show as deadly self-serious as “Heroes,” a program that didn’t have half the witty dialogue in its entire run as one episode of this show. I don’t mean to come down hard on “Heroes” but that show quickly became about everything but its characters — prophecies,...

"Misfits" will be back!
The BAFTA award-winning UK series will make its highly anticipated return to the U.S. with Season 4 running exclusively on Hulu and Hulu Plus this fall, but it will look very different. The science fiction, comedic series follow a group of young offenders sentenced to work in a community service program where they obtain supernatural powers after a strange electrical storm.
Going into Season 4, "Misfits" lost three stars -- Iwan Rheon, who will star on "Game of Thrones" Season 3; Lauren Socha, who was sentenced to jail for racially aggravated assault against a taxi driver; and [Spoiler Alert] Antonia Thomas, whose character died in the Season 3 finale.
But there are two new juvenile delinquent super-heroes joining "Misfits": Karla Crome will star as Jess and Nathan McMullen as Finn. According to Den of Geek, Jess is like a female Larry David. "She's the person who will say the un-sayable,...

I'm so glad for all you DirectTV subscribers. That messy potty carriage contract deal with Viacom is finally hammered out and that means you could watch last night's premiere of Misfits on Logo. So what did you guys think? I love this show and particularly this episode. In a tight 45 minutes the series lays out the origin story for not one but five superheroes. The not nearly as fun Spider-Man reboot took over two hours to tell just one!
It all starts with six juvenile delinquents on their first day of community service. All six are wearing orange jumpsuits, but one of them is wearing a red shirt in the figural sense. He won't make it out of the episode alive and gets bludgeoned and stuffed in a locker. (Already this show takes me back to high school!)

Misfits newcomer Karla Crome stars alongside Skins actor Joe Dempsie in Murder a new drama coming to BBC 2 co-created by Robert Jones and Kath Mattock, the writer/producer team behind the BAFTA-winning series Buried.
Sisters Coleen (Karla Crome) and Erin (Lara Rossi) have an intense and volatile relationship. All they have is each other. They meet Stefan (Joe Dempsie) who is passing through town, hours later one of them is dead. All we have to go on is what the two survivors tell us. Who did it? And why?
Murder will tell the fictional story of the brutal killing of Erin, a young woman found dead one night inside the flat she shares with her sister Colleen, played by rising British star Karla Crome. The chief suspect is quickly identified as a young war veteran, Stefan, who had come back to the flat to drink and play a game of...

Back in November we told you that Chuck co-creator Josh Schwartz had finalized a deal for the rights to the U.K. series Misfits and was teaming with Misfits creator Howard Overman to write the pilot of a U.S. version. E4's Misfits has gone through a bit of a shake-up since its 3rd season ended last year. Original series cast members Antonia Thomas and Iwan Rheon both exited the show; and Lauren Socha's 2012 conviction for racially-aggravated assault is likely the reason she's no longer only pretending to do community-service. Earlier this year, a casting call went out for three new Misfits characters, to be introduced in the upcoming 4th season. We now know, thanks to ScreenTerrier, who will be playing two of the roles. Nathan McMullen (Casualty, Shameless) will be playing the role of Finn, who, according to the casting call, "has a childlike naively optimistic view...

"Misfits" star Lauren Socha is leaving the popular Channel 4 teen drama and will not return for the fourth season. According to BBC, the BAFTA winner was sentenced to four months in prison after she admitted to racially aggravated assault on a taxi driver.
Channel 4 said in a statement that the arrest and Socha's departure from the series are not related.
"A mutual decision was reached between Clerkenwell [Films, which produces "Misfits"] and Lauren earlier this year that she would not be returning for the fourth series," Channel 4 said in a statement.
The fourth season of "Misfits" -- which airs on Hulu in the Us and has an American remake in the works with "The Oc's" Josh Schwartz and original series creator Howard Overman -- was planned to launch in late 2012. Socha isn't the only original cast member exiting the series. Both Antonia Thomas and Iwan Rheon have left the series.

British actress Lauren Socha has been handed a suspended prison sentence for racially abusing a taxi driver.
The award-winning Misfits star punched cabbie Sakandar Iqbal and called him a "P**i" and a "dirty b**stard" during an eight-minute rant after a booze binge in Derby, England last year.
She pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault at a court in the city on Wednesday and was given a four-month jail sentence, suspended for a year, and ordered to carry out 80 hours of community service. She was also told to pay her victim $720 (£450) compensation and court costs of $1,200 (£750).
Socha won a British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award for best supporting actress in 2011.

In my never-ending quest to find a TV show that can help bridge the gap between Skins series, I have watched several British teen shows that have just made me miss Skins more.
Not so with Misfits.
Misfits, an E4 original program, is about to start Series 4 in the UK, so the excellence of this show certainly is not news to our British readers. But since Series 3 just started streaming on Hulu for American viewers, with a new episode every Monday, this is a good time to start watching. Because once you see the first episode of S1, you won't want to stop.
Before anyone gets bent out of shape, let me quickly say that Misfits bears little resemblance to Skins beyond the fact that it's a teen ensemble drama with a similar snarky tone and penchant for the "strong language and sexual situations" that require a promise that you're...

Supernatural-flavored and fantasy-tinged programming continues to flood our TV screens, which is no surprise, given the success of shows like "True Blood" and "The Vampire Diaries."

It looks like the U.K. hit "Misfits" is one step closer to coming to America, with "Gossip Girl" creator Josh Schwartz at the helm.
"Misfits" creator Howard Overman penned the American pilot with Schwartz and though there's no network attached to the project yet, Deadline reports that they sent out their spec pilot to the networks this week, along with more than a dozen other specs.
"I hope we get to make it," Schwartz excitedly told The Huffington Post at the "Gossip Girl" 100th episode celebration in December. "I really hope we get the chance to make. I'm working with Howard Overman, who created the U.K. version of 'Misfits,' so I'm playing the guide, and it's really his baby. I'm a huge fan of ['Misfits'], and that's my role on the show, as a fan."

Misfits: Series 3
Stars: Iwan Rheon, Lauren Socha, Nathan Stewart-Jarett, Antonia Thomas | Created by Howard Overman
After series two of Misfits ended it had a lot to prove, not only to itself in a way but to the audience. With the loss of Robert Sheehan as Nathan it was losing one of its best characters, to some he was most definitely the best and ending series two the way it did with almost a reboot of the whole super hero theme it left a lot of doors wide open.
After the online short episode that said goodbye to Nathan series three started off quite strong with the new addition of Rudy, the almost arrogant woman chaser who thinks himself god’s gift to all women. He’s arguably a lot like Nathan, just funny in a different way. We are introduced to him in an episode that pretty much looks...

The wait is finally over for U.S. fans of the hit U.K. series "Misfits." The popular raunchy sci-fi teen dramedy is returning exclusively to Hulu for Season 3. As sad as we are to see Nathan (Robert Sheehan) go, we have to admit, actor Joe Gilgun, who steps into the new role of Rudy, looks pretty good in that orange jumpsuit.
The E4 hit follows a group of young offenders forced to work in a community service program, where they acquire supernatural powers after a strange electrical storm, but being a superhero isn't as easy as it looks, especially when something always seems to go awry for the group.
Even though we’ll miss the hysterically obscene Nathan, his replacement is equally as entertaining, according to stars Iwan Rheon and Lauren Socha. "Joe Gilgun is brilliant," Socha told HuffPost TV in a phone interview. "Me and Joe, we live together.
