A renowned estate with an illustrious pedigree in what is arguably the plummiest pocket of Los Angeles’s tony Bel Air community, owned for the last 25-plus years by Bill Bell, scion of the Bell family soap opera dynasty, and his former soap opera writer/producer wife Maria Arena Bell, has come up for sale with an asking price of $37.5 million. Designed in the early 1930s by esteemed high-society architect Wallace Neff for film producer and studio mogul Sol Wurtzel, the elegant Spanish Colonial mansion, represented by Kurt Rappaport at Westside Estate Agency, measures in at 13,361-square feet with five bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms.
According to Michael Gross’s 2011 real estate page-turner Unreal Estate, the property was purchased in 1953 for a reported $125,000 by celebrity psychic and astrologer-to-the-stars Anthony Norvell, who claimed to have sublet it at various times to Howard Hughes, Prince Ranier of Monaco and, “The King” himself, Elvis Presley.

Chicago – Quirky Greta Gerwig is at it again (being quirky), and this time she’s looking for solutions in “Maggie’s Plan.” The made-in-New-York-City film has overtures of Woody Allen, combined with “Crossing Delancey.” Director Rebecca Miller (“Personal Velocity”) produces a valentine to all her influences and settings.
Maggie (Gerwig) is a single woman with a “plan.” She will use in-vitro fertilization in order to have a child, given that her track record with relationships is not good. Through her academic work, she meets John (Ethan Hawke), a professor whose shaky marriage to Georgette (Julianne Moore, adopting a Meryl Streep-like accent) is distracting his plans to finish his novel. John and Maggie hook up, and John leaves his marriage to be with her, and their newborn daughter. Maggie now has executed her plan, but was it the right one?

If you grew up in the 80s or 90s and played video games, you are likely familiar with LucasArts titles. The LucasArts team created classics like Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, The Dig and Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire. The company eventually went out of business and took a hiatus from game making. The game makers have now reunited to make a new game called Thimbleweed Park.
LucasArts shut down in April of 2013 after its video games weren’t living up to the standards previously set by the company’s blockbuster titles. Yet it wasn’t only the quality of the games that caused the company’s fall. Deals failed at the last minute, projects were canceled and developers had conflicting visions of what direction the developer should take. We first told you back in July about Syfy giving the green light to the pilot Dominion, based on characters in the 2010 film Legion. Back then we had little to go on besides a sketchy paragraph about it being set 25 years in the future after an epic war between an army of angels and humankind.
Now we have more, including not only the casting of three major characters (at least two of whom are likely familiar to you) but a lot more in the way of plot and character detail.
Although I’m completely enthusiastic and encouraging about this pilot, the fact that one of the actors, Christopher Egan, was also cast in the pilot Gothica as Dorian Gray proves that casting a pilot by no means guarantees its pickup to series.
You have been warned; get excited about this, but don’t fall in love just yet:

While gearing up for the release of the Parker Posey starring indie comedy "Price Check" this week, filmmaker Michael Walker also celebrates the forming of a new production company with producer collaborator Dolly Hall. The new banner, dubbed Fog Cutter Films, has begun casting and will start shooting its first film "The Revolution of Jenny Speck," a psychological thriller about the numbing effects of pop culture. Hall has over 20 producing credits to her name, with titles including Lisa Cholodenko's "High Art," Gary Winnick's "Tadpole," and Griffin Dunne's "Lisa Piscard is Famous," and Walker is the writer and director of the Jeff Daniels starrer "Chasing Sheep," "Price Check," and the forthcoming "The Maid's Room." The two have collaborated on the last two.

In their relatively young film careers, Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried have carved out impressive résumés that run the gamut from acclaimed indie films to worldwide blockbusters. In a few years, Tatum went from being an exotic dancer (he's exceedingly good-natured about the video of one of his early performances making the rounds on YouTube) to a sought-after model before landing supporting roles in films like "Coach Carter" and "She's the Man." But 2006 would prove to be his breakout year: He earned a Spirit Award nomination for his turn as a street youth in Dito Montiel's "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" and became a box-office champ with the surprise success of the dance film "Step Up." Last year, he assumed his biggest role to date as the title character in the big-budget action flick "G.I. Joe." Seyfried also began as a model at age 11, before segueing into...

Bride Wars
Starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway
Directed by Gary Winnick
Rated PG
And so it begins, another year of romantic comedies, and you'd think that there'd be a learning curve at some point, so that instead of treading the same ground time after time, this genre of movies would learn from previous mistakes. But it doesn't. The Romantic Comedy only learns from what makes money, because that is, indeed, the great deodorant.
And one thing that continues to work for the RomCom is Kate Hudson. Last year when Fool's Gold was released, I lamented over Hudson and Matthew McConaughey settling for the scripts with the best locations.
They're a good on-screen team, and have consistently shown workable chemistry, even though their movies are bad. Why do they have to be lousy? I have no idea. But that's not a question the RomCom concerns itself with, seeing instead that Hudson makes money.
