He and his wife, playwright Elena Gremina, wrote, directed, and presented powerful critiques of Putin's government, leading to official harassment and repeated closings. He was the artistic director of Teatr.doc and she was the managing director. The small, 100-seat theater, was housed in a basement in central Moscow.
