The 20th anniversary of writer/director Rob Zombie’s feature directorial debut House of 1000 Corpses (watch it Here) came and went last year – but today, Zombie took to social media to announce that he’s celebrating the 21st anniversary of the film by working on a book about the making of it! Zombie also shared multiple behind-the-scenes images, and you can check those out at the bottom of this article.
Zombie wrote, “To celebrate the 21st anniversary of House of 1000 Corpses being released I thought I would give you a sneak peek at the House of 1000 Corpses book that I have been working on. This thing is packed with rare photos, blueprints, storyboards, makeup tests and my original script with all my handwritten notes and sketches. So much stuff for all you Corpse-Heads! In 1984, Jason Voorhees (Ted White) finally met his end in Joseph Zito's "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter." He was finally dead. In 1991, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) finally met his end in Rachel Talalay's "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare." He was finally dead. In 1993, Jason Voorhees met his end again in Adam Marcus' "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday." He was finally dead again. In 1994, Freddy Krueger finally met his end again in "Wes Craven's New Nightmare." He was finally dead again.
The two monsters were once again somehow alive to face off in Ronny Yu's excitable 2003 battle royale "Freddy vs. Jason," a film that felt like it came too late to bank on the popularity of the characters, but that was a massive hit nonetheless. ‘Freddy vs. Jason’ 20 Years Later – The Ultimate Horror Battle Still Satisfies After All These Years
I was somewhat of a late bloomer when it came to my exposure to horror. I lacked the cool older relative or friend that seems to serve as a customary gateway for many genre fans. I had seen a few horror movies growing up (Child’s Play and Scream each terrified me at different points in my youth), but seeing Freddy vs. Jason at the tender age of 15 is single-handedly responsible for the horror fandom that has consumed my life ever since. Without the movie — which hit theaters 20 years ago today — I very likely wouldn’t be writing for Bloody Disgusting now.
I knew of Freddy and Jason through pop culture osmosis, but I hadn’t seen any of the combined 17 films that comprised the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises when Freddy vs. Jason piqued my interest. Even with the advent of Netflix’s DVDs by mail,...

The Halloween (2018) episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written and Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
When it comes to horror franchises the Halloween series is a bit like Chewbacca; it doesn’t make a lot of sense narratively unless you really understand what is going on. That’s right, you just heard a Star Wars reference in a video about a Halloween movie. Just roll with it… Technically the Halloween films are four different stories and one one-off tale told over the course of thirteen films, if my math is right away. Only one of these narrative shifts seems to have been done for creative reasons while the rest were undertaken in an effort to continue the series and make more money from the Halloween brand. If this sounds cynical to you,...

Imagine Jason Voorhees wreaking havoc in the aisles of a Crystal Lake S-Mart. The only thing standing between him and the gruesome murders of the teenage employees working there is Ash Williams. Who also works there. Housewares! What a scene! A scene that never happened. Actually, it did happen in both a comic book and a script for a movie we never received. Oh, and Freddy Krueger was there too. Using Jason to gain access to the Necronomicon so that he could read its passages and become more powerful than ever.
There’s so, so much more to Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash and it’s all been covered by Bloody Disgusting before. The reason I bring it up today? Were it not for the alleged unwillingness of competing studios to have their character be the loser of the three way fisticuffs, it totally would have worked. Not only do I believe Freddy vs.

Plot: Kyra Gardner, the daughter of special effects artist and puppeteer Tony Gardner, takes a journey through the Child’s Play franchise.
Review: Friday the 13th has Crystal Lake Memories (both the book and the movie). The Nightmare on Elm Street series has the documentary Never Sleep Again. But a lot of the big horror franchises are still waiting to receive their definitive documentaries. Last year, I read the book Reign of Chucky, a film-by-film examination of the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise that was packed with interesting information about the making of the movies. But since it was assembled during the production of season 2 of the Chucky TV series, it was missing one major element: authors Dustin McNeill and Travis Mullins weren’t able to land interviews with some of the most prominent players in the franchise, like Don Mancini, who has written every entry in the series, or actors Brad Dourif,...

Plot: Authors Dustin McNeill and Travis Mullins look back at the making of all seven films in the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise.
Review: For the last ten years or so, author Dustin McNeill appears to have dedicated his life to crafting “scary good books on scary good movies”. He has written two books on the Phantasm franchise, detailed Freddy vs. Jason’s long journey through development hell, covered the Halloween franchise (up to the 2018 film), and then wrote a book about more than twenty Halloween movie scripts and pitches that never made it into production. Along the way, he even wrote a book about the Jaws ride. For the Halloween books – Taking Shape and Taking Shape II – McNeill had Travis Mullins as a co-writer. Now McNeill and Mullins have turned their attention to another one of the horror genre’s most popular franchises: the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise. With their...

This is not another “Halloween III is good actually” article. After forty years, its reappraisal as a genre classic seems to be more or less complete. It is true that for years the absence of Michael Myers, Laurie Strode, and Dr. Loomis led many fans of the Halloween movies to confusion, rejection, or outright rage against the film, but as time has passed, tempers have cooled, and the film has been assessed on its own terms. Though John Carpenter’s original masterpiece is generally acknowledged as the apex of the franchise, Halloween III: Season of the Witch is, at least for many, the film that captures the essence of the Halloween season better than any other in the series. By looking to the ancient past and combining it with current American celebrations and cultural rituals, it creates a tapestry that reflects the “Season of the Witch” in a way that...

[To celebrate the release of their new book, Taking Shape II: The Lost Halloween Sequels, authors Dustin McNeill & Travis Mullins share the top 10 craziest cameos from lost Halloween sequels that were never filmed in this special guest article!]
As is, the Halloween franchise isn’t much known for its cameos. Sure, you’ve got Weird Al and Chris Hardwick in Rob Zombie’s Halloween II, but otherwise they’re more subtle—like Pj Soles as the voice of the teacher in 2018’s Halloween. Not that the filmmakers haven’t tried for more ambitious guest appearances over the years. From Howard Stern to Mike Myers, they definitely have! It’s just that these ideas—and sometimes, even their respective films—haven’t all panned out.
In writing our newest book—Taking Shape II: The Lost Halloween Sequels—we’ve discovered a handful of surprising cameo suggestions tossed around. In honor of the book’s release, gathered here are the ten wildest “lost sequel” cameo ideas from the Halloween films that never were.

Even before I hit my teens, I found myself fascinated with rumored or alternate sequels that never made it to the big screen for franchises like Alien and Predator, and often wondered what other franchises had lost sequels. Of course there are famous abandoned movie ideas, but authors Dustin McNeill and Travis Mullins did an incredible amount of research for Taking Shape, and now they're back with Taking Shape II, detailing 24 (!!)
