Back in 2009, director Robert Green Hall introduced the world to a chrome-masked maniac called ChromeSkull in the very cool slasher Laid to Rest. A divisive sequel called ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2 followed two years later – and as the years went by, Hall let it be known that he intended to make another sequel called Laid to Rest: Exhumed. Sadly, he wasn’t able to make that movie before he passed away unexpectedly back in 2021. But Nick Principe – who recently wrote and starred in the horror thriller Johnny & Clyde and also played ChromeSkull in both Laid to Rest movies – has revealed to our friends at Bloody Disgusting that he intends to continue the Laid to Rest franchise with a comic book called The Reflection of Fear!
Principe explained why he’s moving forward with a comic book instead of trying to get another Laid to Rest movie into production: “To be totally honest,...

Released in 2009 in the midst of the same neo-slasher run that produced Hatchet’s Victor Crowley and Behind the Mask’s Leslie Vernon, writer/director/special effects makeup artist Robert Hall’s Laid to Rest introduced horror fans to Chromeskull (Nick Principe), a towering slasher in a sleek suit and polished mask who carries out all manner of mayhem while chasing after a hapless group of blue collar victims across a desolate stretch of country under the cover of night. A sequel followed in 2011, continuing on from the previous film’s events and revealing that the vicious killer commands a group of subordinates who do his bidding, including Chromeskull wannabe Preston (Brian Austin Green) and the devious Spann (Danielle Harris). In that film’s closing moments, Chromeskull heads out onto the streets of Hollywood to likely carry out yet another gore-soaked killing spree.

Vault director Tom DeNucci’s new film Johnny & Clyde is usually referred to as a “crime thriller”, but we’ve also heard that the story shifts gears to become a “balls-to-the-wall slasher/horror” flick. Since I have been a dedicated slasher fan since the 1980s, I’m looking forward to checking it out when it receives a theatrical and VOD release this Friday, May 5th. With the release just a few days away, a trailer for Johnny & Clyde has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Scripted by DeNucci and Nick Principe, Johnny & Clyde follows the two eponymous serial killers who are madly in love and on an endless crime spree. They have their sights set on robbing a prosperous casino run by crime boss Alana and her head of security.

It’s no coincidence that Johnny & Clyde sounds a lot like Bonnie and Clyde. Helping to usher in a new level of violence in mainstream film Arthur Penn’s film is one of the most influential and imitated films of its time. One can draw a line from Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker to Mickey and Mallory Knox, Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers. And from there to the latest film from director Tom DeNucci and co-writer Nick Principe who is probably better known for lending his imposing presence to films like Laid to Rest and FP2: Beats of Rage.

As Baphomet opens, a Satanic cult sacrifices a naked woman while their leader Henrik Brandr promises soon they won’t have to hide in the shadows. It’s an ominous opening, only slightly marred by Brandr seeming to pronounce the ruler of Hell’s name as “Satin”.
Whatever the cult has planned involves a ranch owned by Jacob Richardson and his wife Elena (Ivy Opdyke; Hide the Monster). Brandr sends his son Askel to convince them to sell. He doesn’t manage that, but a picture of their pregnant daughter Rebecca (Rebecca Weaver) and her husband Mark (Matthan Harris) catches his eye.

Man, The Last Heist boasts one damn-fine hook – bank robbers accidentally lock themselves inside with a serial killer who starts picking them off one by one. On premise alone, Mike Mendez’s latest B-Movie hopeful is enough to get genre fans all revved-up – but dammit if execution doesn’t topple such a fragile structure. This is a low-budget flick that reeks of low-budgeting, never able to overcome actors who are obviously shooting fake guns or CGI effects that stick out like digital bullet holes. What should be a raucous heist/slasher hybrid plays like a slightly-elevated game of cops and robbers, cheap in value and lacking in performances.
Sigh – this is the genre fan in me being disappointed.

Nobody Can Cool takes a simple concept and uses it to great effect. An independent film in every sense, it is evidence that you do not need big budget dollars to create unnerving tension and edge of your seat excitement. For those looking for an effective modern twist on old school noir you will find it with Nobody Can Cool.
The story follows Susan (Catherine Annette) and David (David Atlas) a young couple who are looking to have a weekend getaway out in the country. They soon find their friend’s home they thought would be vacated is currently being used by some suspicious characters. The question becomes are these strange occupiers just the product or a miscommunication or are their plans far more sinister.
David and Susan come across as the couple you never want to hang out with.

Two outings for The Toxic Avenger and a surprisingly good vampire movie feature in this month's Bottom Shelf...
The advent of high definition technology has ushered in an era of unsurpassed quality in terms of the home-cinema experience. With TVs now able to match filmmakers' original visions closer than ever, the path has been cleared for the true maverick masters of cinema to shine on the small screen. Which brings us to Troma Entertainment head honchos Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, whose final two Toxic Avenger sequelsmake their way onto Blu-ray this month.
Not by any stretch of the imagination a pair of essential HD releases (you could argue the grainy footage of any Troma film is best viewed on ancient VHS), The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation Of Toxie and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV are what they are: both the best and worst of Kaufman...

Mactropolis Films is developing an indie horror title called Sky Sharks. This film production company has developed features such as Legend of Hell (2012), The Power of Soul (2013) and Spores (2015). Their latest deals with Nazi flying sharks, likely trying to capitalize on films like Sharknado (2013). Sky Sharks stars Robert Lasardo, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Nick Principe. Now, several posters, including character posters, are hosted here. To expand on the outlandish story, several geologists discover a Nazi laboratory. Located in the Arctic, this laboratory houses secret weapons and biological agents. The geologists unleash disturbing experiments, including flying sharks and the undead. Now, the skies are full of rotting flesh and razor sharp cartilage. Humanity must fight the unvanquishable! Currently, Sky Sharks is in the early stages of production. The film might be ready to fly in 2017. For now, fans of b-movies or of indie horror titles can view several graphics for the film.

John Falcon is mad. Imprisoned for 10 years, he's about to be paroled, but his prison sentence hasn't mellowed him one iota. If anything, it's made him a more fierce creature, the personification of fury, refusing to compromise on his core principle of life: "You owe, you pay." Smashing, bloody, rude, and often nude, American Muscle captures the rowdy spirit of 70s exploitation movies and transfers it wholesale to the present day, while also instilling a dose of rueful, personal nostalgia. Make no mistake, American Muscle is first and foremost a movie about an incredibly uber-macho, extremely violent criminal -- c'mon, he's named John Falcon! -- and the blood he sheds without remorse in his quest for vengeance. As embodied by the brawny Nick Principe,...

When asked what the hometown of horror is, Providence, Ri, doesn't immediately come to mind. But Woodhaven has become a prolific horror studio, located right in the heart of New England, and we recently visited the set of their newest film, Almost Mercy.
The location was a no-tell motel where, if the walls could talk…Omg, the stories they would tell! It was the perfect setting for one of the key scenes for the film. Director Tom DeNucci took some time out of his shooting schedule to talk about Almost Mercy and the progress of Woodhaven Productions.
"The film is definitely darker, definitely more sinister. It has a lot less of the campy throwback horror-comedy," DeNucci said. "However, it does have a very slick, cutting and mean dark comedy to it, which is fun. I've never had a chance to flex those muscles before. That I attribute to getting to work with B.

I made a promise to myself that I’d review as many horror films as possible in 2014, so I started last night off by jumping on Xbox, pulling up the most recent VOD horror flick, and giving it a rent – like a game of cinematic Russian Roulette. The film I ended up with? Army Of The Damned, a film bringing together Sully Erna (lead singer of Godsmack), Candyman (Tony Todd), Joey Fatone (*N Sync/exploiter of fat jokes), Michael Berryman (Pluto – no, not the dog – from The Hills Have Eyes) and Nick Principe (ChromeSkull in Laid To Rest). If some of those names mean nothing to you, then you’re not a horror fan, and you’ve certainly stumbled upon the wrong review – or you somehow missed that wretched decade where boy bands ruled the universe. Either this cast was going to be supergroup-status awesome, or Frankenstein monster horrendous – but we’ll get to that.

Well Go USA has acquired all North American rights to Snowfort Pictures and Automatic Entertainment’s American Muscle.
Commercial and music video director Ravi Dhar’s arthouse action-thriller stars Nick Principe, Robin Sydney, Todd Farmer, John Fallon, Trent Haaga and Malice McMunn.
The story takes place in California’s Yucca Valley as an ex-con embarks on a mission of revenge against his brother.
John Fallon wrote the screenplay and Travis Stevens produced alongside Jeffrey Giles and Michael Lurie.
“We set out to make a different kind of action film; something beautiful and exciting,” said Snowfort’s Stevens. “We can’t think of a company better suited to bring Ravi Dhar’s unique vision to audiences than Well Go USA.”
Stevens brokered the deal with Well Go USA president and head of acquisitions Doris Pfardrescher.
