Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has not taken too kindly to the “nepo kid” tag and has bashed people for giving her this moniker, saying there is nothing wrong in someone following in their parent’s footsteps. The ‘Iron Man’ actress had entered the nepo-kid debate in a light-hearted way back in January, but this time she has made far more cutting comments and has entered the debate with more force.
Gwyneth, who is the daughter of actor Blythe Danner and director/producer Bruce Paltrow, as well as an Oscar winner herselfcalled the tag, an “ugly moniker.”
“Now there’s this whole nepo baby culture, and judgment that exists around kids of famous people,” Paltrow said in an interview with Bustle, which she was attending with her 19-year-old daughter Apple, according to Variety.

Gwyneth Paltrow is opening up about her feelings around the “nepo baby” term, which is used for those kids of famous parents. Paltrow is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and director Bruce Paltrow and says that label is an “ugly moniker.”
In an interview with Bustle, the idea of helping her daughter Apple, whom she shares with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, came up but Paltrow says “She’s a very private person.”
“Now there’s this whole nepo baby culture, and judgment that exists around kids of famous people,” Paltrow said during the interview. “She’s really just a student, and she’s been very… She just wants to be a kid and be at school and learn. But there’s nothing wrong with doing or wanting to do what your parents do.”
She continued, “Nobody rips on a kid who’s like ‘I want to be a doctor like my dad and granddad.

Well, here’s a more somber crime thriller to quiet things down in the multiplexes as the Summer movie season of noisy blockbusters wraps up with the Labor Day weekend. Its setting is only a few years back, but most of its themes are fairly timeless as we bear witness to another young person (actually several) from the mean streets of the East Coast who is swallowed up by the drug trade. Oh, but there’s one sole (really aided by a couple more) who won’t allow him to be another statistic, another outline on the filthy sidewalk. Now she’s not your typical crusading heroine, as she’s dealing with her own flaws and weaknesses. Still, this struggling newspaper reporter earns the right to be called The Good Mother.
It opens on the dark early morning streets of Albany, NY in 2016 as a man in his twenties dashes from corner to corner,...

"You followed him? He could've killed you!" Vertical has revealed an official trailer for a dark crime thriller titled The Good Mother, from director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte. Despite the two big names leading this cast, it's doesn't seem to be getting the most hyped up release next month. The film follows a journalist who, after the murder of her estranged son, forms an unlikely alliance with his pregnant girlfriend to track down those responsible for his death. Together, they confront a world of drugs and corruption in the seedy underbelly of a small city in upstate New York. Hilary Swank stars as Marissa, the vengeful journalist, with Olivia Cooke as Paige, plus Dilone, Hopper Penn, Norm Lewis, Karen Aldridge, and Jack Reynor. This reminds me of McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, about a mom turning vicious to get revenge on whoever killed her child. Looks extra dark. "Don't I get...

Please Don’t Feed The Children: Destry Allyn Spielberg directing horror film, Michelle Dockery stars
Three months ago, it was announced that Destry Allyn Spielberg – a daughter of Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw – would be making her feature directorial debut with an action film called Four Assassins (and a Funeral), which was described as being like “The Kingsman meets Knives Out meets Succession“. But Four Assassins (and a Funeral) wasn’t quite ready to go into production yet, so another project has leap-frogged that one to become Spielberg’s first feature. The “elevated genre film” Please Don’t Feed the Children is now set to start filming in New Mexico next month, with Spielberg at the helm and Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) in the lead.
Spielberg is expected to circle back to Four Assassins (and a Funeral) after Please Don’t Feed the Children is finished.

Hopper Penn, the son of actors Sean Penn and Robin Wright, is weighing in on the nepo baby discourse to say that he isn’t one, and that he doesn’t care if people think he is.
“I don’t give a s— about that, because I’m not one,” Penn told Yahoo! Entertainment when asked if he was concerned with being labeled as a “nepo baby,” a term implying that some children of celebrities are only successful because of their famous parent’s nepotism.
Penn, who stars in “Devil’s Peak” alongside his mother, recalled discussing the topic while on set for “Let Me Go the Right Way,” a 2022 short film that critics tagged as a “nepotism film” due to its involvement with director Destry Allyn Spielberg, the daughter of Steven Spielberg, and writer Owen King, the son of Stephen King.

The dynamics between fathers and sons, and whether the younger generation can ever escape the family legacy, is at the heart of “Devil’s Peak.” It’s apt then that director Ben Young cast Hopper Penn — son of Sean — as his lead. In this adaptation of David Joy’s novel “Where All Light Tends to Go,” the father, Charlie (Billy Bob Thornton), is a drug lord in North Carolina’s Appalachian Mountains, with a firm grip on his son’s life and livelihood. Jacob (Penn) works as a runner for his dad, while the latter withholds his wages, thus totally controlling his son. Young and screenwriter Robert Knott build on these intriguing family dynamics to create an entertaining drama that’s unfortunately let down by its lead performance.

Steven Spielberg says “it’s exciting for the whole family” that daughter Destry Allyn Spielberg is following in his footsteps by closing a deal to make her feature directorial debut.
The subject came up when The Fabelmans filmmaker dropped by the Smartless podcast to chat with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. For almost 30 years, the Oldenburg Film Festival has been championing a very specific flavor of fiercely independent cinema.
Equally inspired by the New Hollywood genre films of the 1970s and the bootstraps indie cinema of the 1990s, Oldenburg has carved out a niche unlike any of the major international festivals. Instead of playing the same fall festival hits as Cannes, Venice and Toronto, Oldenburg continues to spotlight overlooked or forgotten movies that don’t fit the industry’s familiar categories.
For the 29th festival, which runs Sept. 14-18, The Hollywood Reporter took a look back at five indie gems from Oldenburg’s weird and wonderful history.

On Tuesday, Leonard responded to a tweet announcing the cast of the short film “The Rightway,” which features Hopper Penn, an actor and the son of Sean Penn, and actor Brian D’Arcy James. The film is directed by Spielberg and written by Owen King, an author and the son of writer Stephen King.
“Hollywood’s a meritocracy, right?” Leonard said, pointing out that three of the people involved are the children of successful Hollywood creatives.

“The View” hosts Sunny Hostin and Meghan McCain definitely don’t see eye to eye when it comes to how people get opportunities in life. And on Thursday’s episode, Hostin made it very clear where she stands.
As part of the show’s Hot Topics for the day, the panel of women discussed the backlash that actor Ben Stiller faced this week for saying that working in Hollywood is a meritocracy, in defense of an upcoming short film starring Sean Penn’s son, directed by Steven Spielberg’s daughter, and written by Stephen King’s son. It’s a family affair for Sean Penn and his new film Flag Day. Directed and starring the two-time Oscar winner, Penn enlisted his real-life daughter Dylan Penn to take on the role of his fictional daughter Jennifer Vogel, a woman who is coming to terms with the complicated relationship between her and her con artist father. This is the first major film role for Dylan Penn, who bears an uncanny resemblance to her father as well as her mother Robin Wright. Her brother, Hopper Penn, has also taken on a role in the film which co-stars Josh Brolin, Norbert Leo Butz, and Dale Dickey.
The script is penned by the Tony-winning scribe of The Ferryman, Jez Butterworth, and the first trailer has now arrived. In addition to a strong cast, Penn also enlisted some all-star talent for the film’s soundtrack, which includes original songs from Cat Power, Eddie Vedder,...
