There’s a particular joy that comes from an excellent soundtrack accompanying an excellent movie. When the music matches the moment, from The Full Monty to Pulp Fiction to Cool Runnings, we experience a moment of aesthetic contentment.
But what about when the soundtrack is infinitely superior to the film? Buying soundtracks is often a great musical choice, because you get songs from a variety of artists – but what if the film they accompany was mediocre? Or worse still, one you’d never consider (or admit to) watching in a million years?
Here are a few that deserve to be placed in brown paper covers, or filed in itunes under a different name:
The ok-movie-Kickass soundtracks:
10 – About a Boy is a feelgood romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant (how very surprising, I hear you gasp), with a lovely script. It’s one of those films you enjoy, but can’t really remember.

The Alamo Drafthouse has quickly garnered a reputation as one of the greatest movie theaters in the history of mankind…or at least the history of movie theaters. With their signature events, ample food and drink selection, and strict no-talking policy, they make obsolete all tawdry multiplexes and completely redefine the movie-going experience. Here’s what they’re up to this week! Thursday September 1st The No Shame Sing-Along Alamo Lake Creek 7:00pm “We see you there, sitting in your car, wailing away to Richard Marx. It's okay; don't feel judged. When we saw you mouthing the words to Counting Crows in the grocery story we wanted to find ourselves a gray guitar and play too. And then we thought, "Man! Sing-alongs...

Today, August 1st, we celebrate the birthdays of three iconic men: Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz, rapper Coolio and Moby Dick author Herman Melville.
Duritz
Happy birthday! I like your hair.
Coolio
I like yours too.
Duritz
(to Melville)
Is this awkward? Whatever, I don't care. I really enjoyed Moby Dick, I read it in college. Or like, I started it. But I really liked the part I read.
Melville
Oh thank you! That's totally nice. I was drunk when I wrote it, just kind of like "whatever." Ughhh. Hi, Sisqo!

Counting Crows singer Adam Duritz -- who suffers from what he calls a "severe mental illness" -- claims he's trying like hell to ween himself off his medication ... despite "vicious withdrawal symptoms." Durtiz just went to his Facebook page and explained, "I was f**king crazy. I needed meds. I took meds. Now I'm less crazy. I need less meds. I'm stopping meds." Back in 2008, Duritz detailed his condition to Men's Health magazine, "I have...

New York — Your typical posh charity benefit in Manhattan usually includes a celebrity or two, maybe a performance by an artist who was popular in the '90s and a room full of insanely rich (and generous!) people. And while all of the above were at the Museum of Modern Art last night, the benefit for "Law & Order: Svu" star Mariska Hargitay's Joyful Heart organization had a whole lot more: Alec Baldwin and Brian Williams ribbing each other onstage, the Manhattan District Attorney's office rubbing shoulders with the likes of Maria Bello, Wynonna Judd, Chris Meloni and Isaac Mizrahi, a live auction in which people bid the equivalent of my salary for two years for to have Bobby Flay cook for them in the Hamptons, high heels that probably belonged out in the museum's sculpture garden ...

Mariska Hargitay raised more than $2 million (£1.25 million) for sexual abuse victims with a star-studded gala on Tuesday.
Alec Baldwin, Maria Bello, Hugh Jackman and Hilary Swank were among the stars who showed up to support Hargitay's Joyful Heart Foundation, which she founded in 2004 to help empower survivors of violence and abuse.
The event at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City featured performances by rocker Patti Smith and Counting Crows star Adam Duritz, as well as a speech from Courtney Love.

Earlier today, after a screening of Something Borrowed, I had the pleasure to chat with Ginnifer Goodwin and Kate Hudson, about their new romantic comedy. In our exclusive interview, we discussed the film, dished details on co-star John Krasinski, and Kate Hudson shared some intimate thoughts on her feelings for cast mate, newcomer Colin Egglesfield. Check out what they had to say below.
*******
Pajiba: Thank you two for sitting down with me to discuss your new movie, Something Borrowed, which is out in theaters today.
Ginnifer Goodwin: It's our pleasure.
Kate Hudson: What's the name of your site again?
Pajiba: Pajiba. Pah-Jie-Bah.
Kate Hudson: That sounds like something I'd wash my asshole with, pardon my Anglais.
Goodwin: Kate. [stares Hudson down]. Can we just get through this last interview, please? After this, we're done.
Hudson: Oh, thank God! I'm so tired of talking about this shitty movie. [To her assistant]. Can you get me another drink,...

We all know Crystal Bowersox used to busk in various train stations around the country, so here's a look at her in action.
The "American Idol" finalist has come a long way from her busking roots, but she exhibited talent even back then.
Her voice and guitar skills are pretty much the same, but check out that one-footed move she uses in the first video -- in which she sings "Saved by Grace" -- to open up her guitar case while never missing a note strumming.
It seems that people back then even recognized her talent. Plenty of people can be seen donating to her case.
The second video, in which she covers the Counting Crows' "Round Here," isn't as good. People aren't quite as giving, and the subway train drowns her out on occasion.

When they began in 2005, the Hold Steady set out to be the best bar band in the world. Over the course of four albums, they have steadily grown from a buzzed-about indie group playing tiny Brooklyn clubs to a world-traveling group that headlines festivals and fills theaters.
Though the Hold Steady traditionally put out an album a year, 2008's Stay Positive kept them on the road, where they visited Australia for the first time, played a massive number of festivals and opened dates for Dave Matthews Band and Counting Crows in Europe. It broke up their annual-lp pace for their fifth album, Heaven Is Whenever, which hit shelves Tuesday (May 4), but the extra time helped make the new album the group's "most musical,...

Whether or not Crystal Bowersox delivered the best performance in "American Idol" history, there is one thing that is clear: She is the obvious frontrunner and the favorite to win. She has rarely had a misstep and manages to step up a notch or two with each passing week. And even if somebody like Lee DeWyze comes up from behind to top her in the final, there's no doubt we will be getting excited about Bowersox's debut album by the time the holidays roll around.
But what will Crystal Bowersox sound like? Her success on "American Idol" is not necessarily unprecedented, as the show has seen the rise of a handful of singer-songwriter types. The most notable corollaries are probably Jason Castro (and not just because of the dreadlocks) and Brooke White. While Bowersox does play the guitar and has a loose, laid-back vibe, her sound doesn't quite match the...

I am a classic rock junkie and only 25 years young that seems like an anomaly considering classic in my generation is like the Counting Crows or Blind Melon.
My father raised me listening to an obscene amount of classic rock ranging from The Boxtops, Chuck Berry, Elvis to British Invasion materminds like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and many more.
Pirate Radio not only hones in on this music and the forbidden nature it once had on millions of impressionable teens in the 60s but the formidable craziness it ensued on people emerging the first semblance of pop culture into our global society. Set in 1966, it tells the story of a fictitious pirate radio station broadcasting to the United Kingdom from a ship moored in the North Sea known as Radio Rock. station, which employs some of the fiercest on-air talent around, under the guidance of Captain Quentin...
