Disney+ has unveiled the teaser trailer for the “four-piece” animated special ‘Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy’.
The animated special showcases the longtime team-up of Lucasfilm and Danish toy manufacturing company, The Lego Group. “It’s hard to believe that it’s been twenty-five years since the ground-breaking collaboration between Lucasfilm and The Lego Group began,” says executive producer James Waugh.
“In that time, Lego Star Wars has given our fans the unique power to unlock their imaginations and play with the galaxy’s elements in any way they can conceive… and build. It’s with that playful spirit in mind that we set out to ‘Rebuild the Galaxy’ like never before. Tapping into the comedic genius of Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, two of the most talented comedy writers I’ve had the fortune of working with, we’ve mixed and matched Lego sets to snap together Imperial X-fighters,...

Disney+ has shared the first teaser trailer for its new "four-piece" animated special, Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy.
Jar Jar Binks remains a divisive character among fans and it's long been theorised (jokingly...we think) that the Gungan was secretly a villain who set out to destroy the Galaxy. That's led to the "Darth Jar Jar" meme which this project is leaning into by finally introducing that version of a character who first debuted way back in 1999's The Phantom Menace.
And yes, Ahmed Best will reprise the role!
In Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, the entire Star Wars Galaxy gets completely mixed up when an ordinary nerf-herder, Sig Greebling, unearths a powerful artefact from a hidden Jedi temple.
He finds himself thrust into an adventure in a new, wondrously wild and twisted version of the Galaxy where good guys are bad, bad guys are good, and the...

While Marvel has been getting plenty of mileage from the multiversal possibilities in exploring alternate worlds, it's not something we've generally seen (at least on screen) in Star Wars' galaxy far, far, away. That changes with new comic animated "four-piece" Lego animated special Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy, in which some very intriguing ideas are finally given free rein. Including – yes! – Darth Jar Jar. Check out the first teaser:
Created by Showrunners and executive producers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, Rebuild The Galaxy, follows what happens when ordinary young nerf-herder Sig Greebling (Gaten Matarazzo) accidentally unearths a powerful artifact from a hidden Jedi temple. The ramifications thrust him into a wild and twisted version of the galaxy where good guys are bad, bad guys are heroes and the fate of it all depends on Sig realizing he's the hero that can put the pieces back together.
Shades of both multiverse tales and The Lego Movie,...

For years, Jar Jar Binks took a beating from "Star Wars" fans who were less than thrilled with the computer generated character's slapstick antics when he debuted in "The Phantom Menace" back in 1999. The bumbling Gungan was so hated that actor Ahmed Best fell into a deep depression. In more recent years, the actor has taken on a new "Star Wars" role as Jedi Kelleran Beq, who rescued "The Mandalorian" bounty Grogu from the Jedi Temple when Order 66 was enacted during the events of "Revenge of the Sith." But soon, Ahmed Best will bring together both Jar Jar Binks and the power of the Force by bringing us a dark side version of the character that finally pays off a ridiculous fan theory.
Despite appearing to be a complete dimwit, there's a popular theory that Jar Jar Binks is actually a brilliant Sith lord, and his antics have all been...

When the whole Star Wars saga started, the Jedis and the Siths started taking over our lives. And none of us probably thought there would come a day when Lucasfilms would give us a Star Wars movie with Darth Jar Jar. But here we are today, as Disney dropped the trailer for Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, and this is exactly what we got!
Darth Jar Jar in Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy | Lucasfilm / Disney
The Darth Jar Jar theory is longstanding and amusingly absurd, and still something that makes you think twice. So when fans get an official nod to this absurd theory and see Jar Jar Binks in his Sith version, they are undoubtedly going to be losing their minds. Even if it is lego!

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is exactly the kind of nonsense Star Wars and, honestly, Disney+ needs right now! I don’t need to see any more Filoni fan fiction or showrunner therapy sessions in a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Please give me some silly stuff!

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been around since the ‘80s. They’ve starred in several animated TV series, live-action movies from Jim Henson costumes to CGI turtles, and two animated films. The latest, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, reinvents the comic book heroes in several ways.
Perhaps taking a cue from the Spider-Verse movies, Mutant Mayhem uses an animation style that is not a straightforward depiction of its world. You can tell it’s New York and there are turtles and other mutants, but the animation combines styles like teenage sketchbooks to create a livelier viewing experience.
The film sticks to the turtles’ origins, mutated by green ooze along with their father figure, the rat named Splinter. The experiments by scientist Baxter Stockman (voice of Giancarlo Esposito) led to the creation of some familiar mutants like Bebop (Seth Rogen) and Rocksteady (John Cena), along with some new...

Earlier this week, Paramount Pictures’ animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” crossed the $100 million mark at the box office, becoming the 18th movie of 2023 to reach that milestone domestically, but also, the final one of the summer.
Directed by Jeff Rowe (“The Mitchells vs. the Machines”), the movie was the brainchild of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who wrote it with Rowe plus Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. It featured a quartet of young newcomers voicing the heroic reptiles — Micah Abbey (Donatello), Shamon Brown Jr. (Michelangelo), Nicolas Cantu (Leonardo) and Brady Noon (Raphael) — in addition to Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Paul Rudd, Rogen and more.

Almost 40 years after their creation (and nearly as long since the last time a real-life teenager declared "Cowabunga!" without a trace of irony), the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have gained a whole new lease on life thanks to "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." The critically acclaimed animated film (you can read Rafael Motamayor's own glowing review for /Film here) follows in the footsteps of hits like "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" by eschewing visual realism in favor of creating its own uniquely hyperrealistic style. It also helps that "Mutant Mayhem" fully embraces the "Teenage" component of the franchise by casting actual teenagers to voice its heroes in a half-shell and allowing them to play off each other in real-time by recording their lines together.

This article contains minor spoilers for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem."
I am a person of an age where I have never known a world without the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." The first issue of the comic book featuring the characters was released in 1984, a full six years before I was born. This meant I was the perfect age to watch the live-action films of the early 90s, with repeated rentals from my local video store. I also grew up watching the admittedly dreadful "Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation" live-action TV series, relegating me forever to the embarrassing Venus de Milo status in my childhood friend group, despite my last name being 4/5 of the pronunciation of an already existing turtle.
This is to say I have a great love and appreciation for the work of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the two men responsible for bringing Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello,...

When you think of the various villains of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, you likely think of Shredder. Although the leader of the Foot Clan has been the arch-enemy of the Turtles for decades, Shredder won’t be featured in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, but that wasn’t always the case.
While speaking with io9, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem director Jeff Rowe revealed that early versions of the movie included Shredder as the main villain.

“I like turtles.” Perhaps the most iconic phrase in modern history was uttered by ten-year-old Jonathan Ware at the 2007 Rose Festival in Portland, Oregon. With his zombie face paint freshly applied, Jonathan aka Zombie Kid was approached by Kgw local news correspondent Nancy Francis. After being asked to comment on his face paint, Jonathan’s response gave birth to one of the biggest viral videos. Sixteen years later, Paramount Pictures tracked Zombie Kid down to ask him his opinion on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. I think you already know what he’ll say.

This new animated origin story for the reptilian fighters is unexpectedly funny, with a starry voice cast including Jackie Chan, Ice Cube and Giancarlo Esposito
Here once again are the strangest ever comic-book heroes; they have featured in movies and TV shows for decades but are still so evergreen in their oddity that their wacky high-concept premise – mutant masked underground crime-fighting turtles with a love of pizza and the names of Renaissance artists – pretty much has to be explained all over again every time they are revived.
Well, this new animated origin story for the chelonian adventurers is unexpectedly funny, with a rather stylish crepuscular design. It started as a joke. Way back in the ’80s, the phenomenon we now call “superhero fatigue” was already a thing, at least among comics afficionados. Frustrated with pulp creators recycling the same old ideas, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird hatched the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The idea was to poke fun at how lame mainstream heroes had gotten, but the parody got so popular, it spawned a mini-empire of its own: movies, games, TV series and a whole lotta merch. At a certain point (around the time Michael Bay got involved), the brand got out of hand. Time for a reset.

By now, five years after the release of "Into the Spider-Verse," it is fair to say that we have a new normal in American studio animation. That movie opened the doors for animated films to look like concept art, to go wild in styles and textures, and not just copy the same hyperrealistic 3D CG style. We saw that in "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," we saw that with "The Mitchells vs. the Machines" and now it is time for new turtles to rise with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem."
The first new "Tmnt" since the end of "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," in many ways, "Mutant Mayhem" feels like an extension of the ideas introduced in that show, from the focus on the early days of the turtles to having bold new designs that differentiate each turtle physically. In a summer where the off-the-boards success of original movies including Barbie and Oppenheimer is all the rage, the seventh-or so feature film iteration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise wasn’t one with great expectations. Except when you read the credit block and discover the co-writers and producers are none other than Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and the director is Jeff Rowe, who most recently was an Oscar nominee for the wildly inventive animated hit The Mitchells vs The Machines.
They have delivered exactly what you might hope they would: a fiendishly clever, funny but appropriately faithful take on a brand that just hasn’t quit since coming into the world as a modest comic book in 1983 from the minds of Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. Their little creation has spawned countless comics, TV series, all those feature films, video games, toys, bedsheets — you name it. Several...

When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were first introduced in 1984, comic book creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird set out to skewer the superhero stories then dominating the space (sound familiar?), piling on the parody (teenage…mutant…ninja…turtles?) and (oopsie!) crafting their own unexpected hit heroes in the process. Over the course of nearly four decades, those wily heroes have cycled through countless iterations, eventually becoming a favorite for kids (of all ages) and spawning their very own entertainment complex. So, has this all been done before? Thankfully, no.
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” the latest entry into the half-shell canon, is another fresh, funny animated outing that breathes serious new life into a classic franchise, proving that even old IP has its legs (claws?). Directed by Jeff Rowe and scripted by Rowe, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit, “Mutant Mayhem” will inevitably draw comparisons to the “Spider-Verse” franchise.

Cowabunga! The Heroes in a Half-Shell won’t return to the New York City sewer system for long after the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem on August 2, 2023. According to Variety, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies are developing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem sequel and a two-season series for Paramount+. The animated series, titled Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, will connect the two feature-length films.
This news speaks wonders about the upcoming animated film, which Paramount thinks will surely delight Ninja Turtles fans of all ages. Point Grey Pictures will produce the sequel, with Jeff Rowe, who directed and co-wrote Mutant Mayhem, returning to behind the camera. Point Grey Pictures is going all in for the Tmnt resurgence by producing the animated series. Meanwhile, Chris Yost and Alan Wan will serve as executive producers and showrunners for Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Cowabunga! Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is set for a sequel.
Ahead of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies opening the computer-generated animated tentpole on Aug. 2, it was announced that a follow-up from director Jeff Rowe and Point Grey Pictures is in the works. Also in development is a two-season series for Paramount+ with the title Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Lukas Williams will be overseeing both the series and sequel for Point Grey. “Reinvigorating this franchise has been years in the making, and we are thrilled to continue expanding the beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe and bring new adventures to families and fans,” Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, said in a statement on Tuesday.

It seems Paramount and Nickelodeon have got a fever, and the only prescription is more "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." Ahead of the August 2, 2023 theatrical release date of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," Variety reports that a sequel is already in development. This isn't surprising, considering the film ends with a big tease, and considering that it is one of the best animated movies of the year. Director Jeff Rowe and the team at Mikros Animation deliver a visually stunning film that delivers rebellious teen attitude, while a script by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, as well as Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, reinvents the iconic characters by focusing on them being actual teens discovering their place in the world.
Perhaps more surprisingly (albeit equally as inevitable) is the news that a TV spin-off of "Mutant Mayhem" is now in development for Paramount+, titled "Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem brings back the iconic reptilian quadruplets for another wild adventure in the animated world of New York City. But for this story, director Jeff Rowe and writers Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit, and Rowe himself bring two new ideas to the screen: casting actual teenagers as the Turtles themselves and applying their own unique spin on the current trend of stylized, exaggerated visuals, jump-started by Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and continued with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Mitchells vs. The Machines, which Rowe also co-wrote and co-directed.
Still, there’s a plethora of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles visions out there: several comics, more than five different TV shows, and six movies, not to mention the churn of toys and merchandise that have spawned from Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s original creation.

Paramount Pictures, one of the few legacy studios to appear at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, brought the animated “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” to the Hall H stage on Thursday.
Without talent in tow, director Jeff Rowe and “Tmnt” creator Kevin Eastoman took the Hall H stage and kicked off the panel with a sizzle reel that featured a look back at the Turtles from the 1990s New Line movie all the way up to the beloved animated series. In the sizzle, producer Seth Rogen said he was eight years old when the New Line film first came out and even added that his father bought him nunchucks.
Rogen and Ice Cube, who plays Superfly in the animated film, added that they wanted to “give the turtles real teenager problems.”
The panel then previewed 20 minutes of footage from the film. Some highlights included the turtles arming their various ninja weapons...

Almost everyone has a memory of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Their cultural ubiquity has been maintained for almost 40 years on toy shelves, game consoles, and Saturday morning cartoons, but there’s something about reptilian ninjutsu masters who binge on pizza slices in the New York City sewers that conjures deeply personal recollections of halcyon youth.
No matter when you met Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello, you were a fan for life. This is true for the filmmakers of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. In interviews with Den of Geek, director and co-writer Jeff Rowe, co-writer and producer Seth Rogen, and producer James Weaver all regale us with tales of growing up with Tmnt fever, even dragging their parents on wild toy store hunts to complete their collections.
“It was the first thing that I ever loved in life,” Rowe tells us about his fandom.

The most fearsome fighting team is back in a new movie, and from what we’re hearing, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is the Tmnt film fans have been waiting for! The latest animated adventure featuring the Heroes in a Half-Shell debuted an unfinished film cut at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Monday, receiving a six-minute standing ovation. According to attendees, the applause was so loud that director Jeff Rowe returned to the stage to bask in the celebratory afterglow.
Speaking with The Wrap, Rowe commented on the momentous occasion, saying, “Being in the room and feeling all the reactions and hearing all the laughter was amazing, but what really stood out to me was to see our movie received and appreciated in that way by a lot of people who really love and care about animation.”
It’s worth noting the version screened at Annecy is a work-in-progress film cut.

Can you kick it? The brand-spankin’ new trailer for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movie’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem has been released. This new continuity comes from “permanent teenager” Seth Rogen, who had announced that he intended to aim for the teenage aspect of our beloved heroes in a half-shell. It looks to be their youngest interpretation yet, as the foursome display a very child-like excitement and wonder while being down for some good ol’ adolescent mischief. It just so happens that they have ninja skills and can utilize them to foil some of the city’s criminal activities.
The official synopsis from Paramount and Nickelodeon reads,
After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate,...

One of the most anticipated animated movies of the year is "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," the latest attempt to bring the heroes in a half-shell to the big screen once again. The prospect of more Tmnt is alluring in and of itself, as this is a franchise that has continued to remain popular with new generations — thanks to newer adaptations like "Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" — but still draws in the nostalgia crown with memories of past adaptations.
"Mutant Mayhem" in particular has a big ace up its sleeve: its visuals. From the very first images that debuted at Annecy last year, it was clear that this movie was trying to stand apart from other adaptations of the original Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird comic book. Directed by "The Mitchells vs. The Machines" co-director Jeff Rowe, the 3D-animated film uses a stylish, graphic visual language that...

There are more than 4,000 attendees this year at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and everyone who entered through the Caesars Palace lobby saw the same sight: four statues accessorized with bold-colored eye masks and skateboards propped at their feet. There was no mistaking the reason as the boards boasted the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem title and release date of Aug. 4, 2023.
Consider it a clever tease from the Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies’ marketing departments and a wink that the studio could possibly deliver some turtle power during its presentation on Thursday morning.
