"I need to see the man who did this me, 'cause I don't know what I'm doing." Hulu has revealed a new US trailer for a British series titled Somewhere Boy, which seems to be a fun riff on the more popular title Nowhere Boy. It already played on BBC last year in the UK, but it is only now coming to the US - available for streaming in early June on Hulu. Here's the intro to this one: Daniel F. Harris has lived inside almost his entire life. He's always believed the world was full of monsters – the monsters that took his mum. For nearly 20 years, he and his dad Steve have stayed in, listening to old records and watching movies that always had a happy ending – and Danny was happy too. But one day that life shatters in an instant, and Danny has to take his first tentative steps into the outside world.

Credit “Wedding Season” for not taking the easy opening. It takes a lot of confidence to start up an eight-episode season with an “I object!” moment. It’s how the show introduces us to Stefan (Gavin Drea) one of 2022’s unluckiest characters, and not just because his gambit to break up the wedding of Katie (Rosa Salazar), the woman he loves, is dead on arrival.
His hopes at whisking Katie away for a fairy-tale ending aren’t the only thing that dies that day. At the reception, Katie’s intended Hugo (George Webster) and a number of his family members keel over on top of their chicken/steak/vegetarian option. While she somehow manages to escape unharmed, Stefan is hauled into an interrogation room to share everything he knows about the woman suddenly leaving a trail of dead bodies in her wake.

At first, Hulu’s “Wedding Season” seems to be a charming enough take on a British “Four Weddings and a Funeral”-style romantic comedy, complete with a hopeless romantic boy, his boisterous friend group, and the enigmatic American girl he falls for the minute he meets her at — where else? — a wedding. But both Oliver Lyttelton’s take on the setup and the American at its center have more up their sleeves than a charming meet-cute. The second that initial layer’s peeled, “Wedding Season” (not to be confused with Netflix’s recent movie of the same name) is off and running in another direction entirely — a murder mystery with roots in the kind of deep corruption that would give Jason Bourne nightmares. Whether or not it all hangs together will be for the audience to decide, with all eight episodes out Sept. 8 on Hulu (but only seven made available...

The first trailer for Hulu’s “Wedding Season” ensures that audiences will think twice before saying “I do.”
From the producers of “Broad City,” “Difficult People,” “Younger” and “Search Party,” this action-packed romantic comedy revolves around Katie and Stefan, who fall for one another at a wedding and begin an affair despite the pesky little reality that Katie is engaged. The police naturally think think Stefan is the culprit, he thinks Katie might have done it, and no one knows for sure what the truth is. Conspiracy and hijinx, of course, ensue.

Disney+ is giving fans a first look at upcoming U.K. original series “Wedding Season” in a new trailer.
Not to be confused with the recent Netflix film, Disney+’s “Wedding Season” is a “genre busting” eight-part dark comedy that sees a bride’s new family poisoned on the night of her wedding.
The Maze Runner franchise’s Rosa Salazar plays Katie, who meets Stefan (Gavin Drea of “Vikings: Valhalla”) at a wedding. The duo quickly strike up an affair – despite the fact Katie is due to get married to someone else in two months. On the night of her wedding, Katie’s new husband is mysteriously found dead – along with his entire family – and Stefan quickly becomes the main suspect.
Stefan, meanwhile, is wondering whether Katie may be capable of more than just infidelity.

There are many delights in “Brian and Charles,” the Sundance crowd-pleaser that tells the story of a lonely inventor and the robot he builds to keep him company, but one of its greatest is the attention to detail evident in every location inhabited by the characters. The charm and earnestness of the performances and screenplay are deepened and expanded by sets and props that tell a lifetime’s worth of stories; when we enter Brian’s cluttered home, overflowing with homemade contraptions and vintage furniture, there’s an enveloping sense of his uniqueness as well as his isolation — an isolation more keenly felt and ironic given his warm surroundings.
To create Brian’s house, production designer Hannah Purdy Foggin took her lead from both the script and the real Welsh farmhouse that was used as a set. “It was such an inspiring place,” Foggin told IndieWire. “We went in and...

In a scenic, rainy Welsh town, with just as many sheep as people, there was a man who made himself a best friend. The man is Brian (David Earl), and the friend is Charles (Chris Hayward).
Together, they do normal things: watch television, enjoy meals, take long walks in the countryside. The only odd thing, the only thing that would set them apart from anyone else in their town or any other one, is that Brian is a man, and Charles is a robot he invented.
This is the plot of the aptly titled “Brian and Charles,” a big-hearted buddy comedy about two misfit friends directed by Jim Archer in his feature debut. Earl and Hayward developed these characters first as a live stand-up show and then in a short film, and natural chemistry and cheeky rapport make “Brian and Charles” a laugh-out-loud comedy.

“I was very low,” we hear lonesome inventor (and cabbage enthusiast) Brian’s voiceover say at the start of Jim Archer’s “Brian and Charles,” a textured, melancholic and eccentrically funny mockumentary set in a remote corner of North Wales. With the camera luring the audience into his charmingly cluttered country-home workshop straight out of a storybook, Brian thoughtfully continues to reflect on some topsy-turvy circumstances he’s battled with in his past and how inventing original tools and gadgets was the calling that helped him reclaim his life.
If only he were actually making something marketable or even remotely useful. But despite mostly creating impractical junk that no one in his town wants — like a cabbage bin, a pinecone bag, a belt to carry eggs, a nonsensical puzzle made of ping pong balls and a ridiculous flying clock that crash-lands during a hysterical test run — Brian still stares into...

"I want to go on an adventure. Everything is lovely." Time to meet your new best friend! Focus Features has revealed an official trailer for Brian and Charles, one of the most delightful and charming discoveries out of the 2022 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This extra quirky buddy comedy is pretty much a Taika Waititi-esque creation, but through the lens of filmmaker Jim Archer and comedian David Earl, who plays Brian. Focus Features has acquired the worldwide rights to “Brian and Charles,” a quirky and heartfelt comedy about an unlikely friendship that debuted to rave reviews this week at the Sundance Film Festival.
The film centers on Brian, a lonely inventor in rural Wales, who builds unconventional contraptions that rarely work. He soon sets out on his biggest project yet — spending three days to turn a washing machine and various spare parts into Charles, an artificially intelligent robot who learns English from a dictionary and has an obsession with cabbages.
Polygon’s Oli Welsh praised the film’s “warmth and tenderness” while Thrillist’s Esther Zuckerman wrote that the movie is “adorably whimsical and downright touching.”

Here is a vision of domestic hell. Paul (Jamie Michie) and Michelle’s (Miranda Nolan) marriage is all but broken, as is their relationship with daughters Kelly (Lily-Rose Aslandogdu), a recalcitrant 12-year-old, and Yakira (Ruby Barker), a young adult whose biological mother, Paul’s first wife, died of cancer. We’re given only hints as to how they fell into this nadir, but the damage seems beyond repair.
Their every exchange is crippled by snide remarks and petty disagreements. We see this when Paul sits the family down and announces that he will be moving out. Despite his calm, measured tone, Paul’s attempt at consensus is derailed by passive aggression from Michelle, churlish outbursts from Kelly, and hysterical bemusement from Yakira. It’s a skillful moment in which director Ed Morris builds a crescendo of anxiety, giving you an authentic snapshot of total, miserable dysfunction.
Suffocated by this malaise,...

Filming has begun in North Wales locations on Film4 and British Film Institute-backed feature film “Brian & Charles,” cowritten by and starring David Earl (“After Life”).
The project began life as an acclaimed 2017 short of the same name directed by Jim Archer (“The Young Offenders”). Archer makes his feature directorial debut with “Brian & Charles.” The film is written by Earl and Chris Hayward (“Trollied”). It is based on Earl’s comedic alter-ego Brian Gittins, and his unlikely friendship with Charles, a robot.
After a particularly harsh winter, Brian (Earl) goes into a deep depression. Completely alone and with no one to talk to, he does what any sane person would do when faced with such a melancholic situation: he builds a robot, Charles (Hayward), for company. While things start off well, tensions begin to rise, particularly as Charles keeps eating Brian’s cabbages.

The only premise more basic than “an adult character returns to her hometown” is “friends hang out and make jokes” — and yet, Daisy Haggard’s “Back to Life” makes it feel new and nuanced in a way all her own.
The series — which first aired on the BBC before Showtime acquired it to air in the U.S. — follows Miri (Haggard) as she tries to readjust to life in the tiny seaside town she left 18 years ago, when she was barely 18 years-old herself. Miri didn’t leave because she had outgrown it, though: She left because she went to prison for killing one of her best friends, the beloved daughter of a local cop, during a confusing and awful fight that haunts her and the town still.
Adult Miri’s relatively meek personality coupled with mismatching accounts of what really happened keep the mystery open throughout the six-episode season. And...

How To Get Away With Murder star Alfred Enoch is replacing Jodie Whittaker in the second season of BBC drama Trust Me.
The series, which is produced by Happy Valley producer Red Production Company, was a hit for the British public broadcaster last year with over 6M viewers. However, Whittaker’s new job as the Doctor in the new season of Doctor Who meant she was unable to return.

Recovering from a spinal injury in the neurological unit of Glasgow Hospital, which has left him temporarily paralysed, Jamie faces a new enemy as fellow patients on the ward die unexpectedly around him.
Enoch will be joined in the four-part drama by Four Weddings and a Funeral’s John Hannah, who plays Dr Archie Watson, whose awkward persona hides a seedier and more sinister side,...
