The film, a semi-autobiographical exploration of an illegitimate son’s struggle for recognition from his father, will be brought back to life on stage with Bhatt’s protege Imran Zahid playing the lead role.

As auditoriums lay vacant, members of the theatre community struggle to make ends meet, and audiences are snatched off of a popular form of art and entertainment, digital theatre is what stage veterans like Shernaz Patel say will keep makers connected to the audience.
Patel, who is the returning Artistic Director of Aadyam, the theatre initiative by the Aditya Birla Group, states that theatre has had to morph into a new avatar the world over. "The talent is still there, the desire to tell stories, to communicate - that is not something that has diminished. Theatre makers globally have found innovative ways to make theatre a reality - from zoom plays to recording monologues, to collaborating with visual artists, to phone plays, audio drama and many fascinating and innovative projects have emerged."

This country?s relationship with theatre has been much like a classic tale of love: a pot pourri of emotions, melodrama, humour and romance. It started way back as a purely narrative driven form and gradually moved on to our folk dances and music. Live entertainment gradually evolved from the real to the reel, the stage to the screen. But then there were those struggling to keep the spark alive with their grand visions of raw theatrical beauty.
One such promoter of the cause is Aadyam - a theatre initiative on a quest to initiate the uninitiated. A product of love and passion for the arts, this initiative is back for its fifth season with a commitment to grandeur and series of performances, unparalleled to anything seen before.

The very talented Akaash Khurana's son Akarsh Khurana who was very close to filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar has opted out of the film that he, Akarsh, was supposed to direct for Bejoy.
The aborted project was to star Rajkummar Rao, Hussain Dalal, Shikha Talsania and Razaak Khan. Akarsh had also cast his father Akaash Khurana and Shernaz Patel in prominent parts. But since the project is produced by Bejoy Nambiar, Akarsh is in no position to helm the project any more.
Says Akarsh, "The story idea was Bejoy's. But the screenplay was done by Adhir Bhatt, Hussain Dalal and me. It's a road movie about three dysfunctional people on a journey of self-discovery."
Last heard, Bejoy was trying to get another director for the project.
Explaining his reasons for leaving the project, Akarsh says, "We had some differences as a result of which relations were getting strained. I thought it was...

This is no place for the weak. This world as we know it. And this film, as we discover with the thrill of chancing upon an unexpected little gem.
Inspired from a Spanish film, is it? I really don’t give a fig where writer-director Ahishor Solomon got the raw material for this gripping cat-and-mouse tale. Does the kitchen where the food on the table originates really mean anything? What counts is the quotient of curiosity and suspense simulated by the script. And there, John Day ranks very high.
Not for a while have we seen a film so steeped in despair, so swathed in anxiety, so audaciously draped in despair and yet it engages our senses without miring the plot in morbidity.
The story, let me tell you, is not for the squeamish. The two main characters are constantly haunted by their irrevocably tragic parts. Naseeruddin Shah and Randeep Hooda...

All of us - men and women, husband and wives, adults and children, have to live with our fears. Sometimes we have to die with them. That's where trouble starts in Suparn Verma's smartly-written, nimbly-executed shiver-giver which, blessedly, doesn't lapse into a gore fest... At least not until the last few reels when the body count begins to pile up faster than we can say, "Aatma".
By the end of this short-and-slick and 'eerie'-isistible horror drama, I did begin to get the feeling that the script, which had so far moved at a symmetrical even and smooth pace, kills too many people. Life is.

Reema Kagti’s Talaash bears certain similarities with 2007 Macedonian film Shadows
**this article contains spoilers**
The recently released Talaash directed by Reema Kagti, starring Aamir Kahan, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor will long be remembered as a good movie where glamorous superstars of our time are seen playing convincing character roles. Apart from its refreshing theme of presenting crime from an unorthodox angle, Talaash is a movie that explores a fresh treatment of the supernatural genre. Though both the writers–Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar– have said that Talaash was based on a real-life incident that took place near Haji Ali Road in Mumbai; it is interesting to note that the film bears certain similarities with a 2007 Macedonian film Shadows (Macedonian: Сенки, Transliteration: Senki) directed, produced and written by Milčo Mančevski.

“Isn’t it unfortunate that you still don’t know where your heart lies?” says Shiv’s father to him. Shiv’s parents are worried about him. At twenty-three he is coddled and a little cocky, and totally aimless. But Shiv agrees with his father, so it’s perhaps not surprising that he sets off on what turns into a very personal and spiritual journey, a journey that shows the progress of his soul as he tries to figure out what his life means and what it is worth.
It’s a drastic step, and one that has consequences, both for Shiv (Sarang Sathaye), and for the family and friends he leaves behind, who miss him terribly and worry about him. But like the best of spiritual quests, the things we need are given and revealed only when we are ready for them. Along the way, Shiv meets people who change his life,...

Firstly – a round of applause to PVR Directors Rare for releasing movies such as ‘Love Wrinkle Free’. It’s exciting times for Indian Cinema wherein in between the ongoing Ipl season and some other big banner movies; little gems like Love Wrinkle Free are finding their space on the big screen.
The beauty of a well-made film is that you leave the cinema hall with a light-hearted grin. The slim balance needed between the subject at hand and the art of film-making is tricky, one which even some veterans rarely achieve. The characterizations, setups, performances, drama all have to contribute or else it’s tough to keep the audience engaged for long. With so much under the microscopic eye of the cinema-goer, does debutant director Sandeep Mohan manage to wow the audience with new actors and an off-beat script revolving around love and relationships on the other side of 40?

The director talks about his film which rightly claims to be an ‘offbeat, light-hearted story about love going beyond cosmetic barriers’.
How did the idea for Love, Wrinkle-free originate?
While traveling and hanging out in cafes, I noticed that we Indians are getting extremely obsessed with the “external”. There are more Skin Clinics and Botox Centres and Hair transplant “dens” than Dustbins in cities. Also, this is a country that prided itself on the “internal” and gave the world Yoga and what not.
I felt that the pressure to retain youth for a longer period of time, with headlines like ‘40 is the new 30’ and ‘50 is the new 40’ does start to put a lot of pressure on families and I...

Love, Wrinkle-free delivers exactly on that front where Ishaqzaade let its viewers down. It’s a love story where one forms an emotional connect with the characters and feels for them as they sail through the rollercoaster ride of their lives. The opening sequence indicates that the film is in deft hands and the promise is kept till the end.
The film derives its beauty from the seamless writing which is punctuated with humour at the right moments. It is a romantic comedy with the right amount of sensitivity towards family, identity and mid life crises.
The strength of the film lies in its characters: they are not the kinds you see in every other film. Their motivations are universal yet their ideas original which makes it a quirky little tale about a dysfunctional family.

Many of our writers along with their Bollywood love, also proudly proclaim their love for the Harry Potter series. Most of us have read all of the books several times over and have seen all the films. We wish that we lived in the magical world of Harry Potter and in fact, most of us have said one time or a thousand, ‘I would love to go to Hogwarts’! The last film has made its way into the theaters and though the books are still there so we can visit, we will never again wait impatiently for the release of the next book or film. Since we are geeks in both Bollywood and Harry Potter we thought it might be fun and yes, as a way to distract ourselves from the sadness, if we thought of the perfect cast of Bollywood actors to take over the roles of the films.
