This is Day 93 of the WGA strike and Day 20 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The talk of the picket lines today was the bombshell news that studios and striking writers are headed back to the bargaining table Friday.
“It’s a baby step, and baby steps lead us eventually to the finish line,” Barry and Mad Men actor Patrick Fischler told Deadline outside of the Disney building in Burbank.
Noting that such A-listers as Sean Penn and Jane Fonda have been on the picket lines lately, he added that “actors are pissed. Every level of actor is kind of angry, and I don’t see that changing right now. … We’re not going anywhere.”

Earlier this month, members of the Screen Actors Guild voted to authorize a strike if their negotiating committee doesn’t reach an agreement on a new contract with major Hollywood studios by June 30. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher released a video message this week with an update on the negotiations, telling members, “We are having an [sic] extremely productive negotiations that are laser focused on all of the crucial issues you told us are most important to you. We’re standing strong and we are going to achieve a seminal deal.”

Last week, more than 400 TV creators and showrunners — all of them women — sent letters to top executives at Hollywood studios demanding that specific safety protocols be put in place for pregnant employees in states where abortion has been outlawed, or soon will be. Now, letters of support signed by 594 men — including J.J. Abrams, Jordan Peele, Greg Berlanti, Donald Glover, Aaron Sorkin, David E. Kelley, Taika Waititi and Ryan Murphy — have been sent to the same companies.
The text of the letter is short, simply saying the undersigned stand with their “female, trans & non-binary showrunner colleagues in demanding a response from our employers regarding the imminent crisis” at hand. It was delivered by replying-all to the first letter, and was sent to Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros. Discovery, Paramount, Apple, NBC Universal, Amazon, Lionsgate and AMC.
These activist correspondences have been instigated by the Supreme Court’s June 24 Dobbs decison, which overturned Roe v.

I’ll say it straight away. I don’t really like romantic comedies or ‘rom-coms’ as they are better known. Hate is probably too strong a word but I can count on one hand how many I have enjoyed. And I have to say pretty much they exact same thing about weddings. They’re generally long, bring affairs and I’ve thankfully not been invited to many (maybe there’s a link there?!). So a romantic comedy about weddings might seem like the last thing I’d choose to watch but I do like to at least give ‘new’ things a go.
I’m very glad I did. Plus One had me smiling from start to finish. It’s a simple story.

"I'm not spying! I'm listening." It's hard to not think of The Sound and the Shadow as an indie version of other classic "listening" thrillers like Brian De Palma's Blow Out, or The Conversation, but there's also something original about Justin Paul Miller vision.

Big Time in Hollywood, Fl, the story of two would-be filmmaker brothers attempting to extort $20,000 from their own mom and dad — and thus getting entangled in a number of high-profile criminal activities — is unlike anything Comedy Central has ever done. Melding slapstick and drama, season one saw characters Jack (Alex Anfanger) and Ben (Lenny Jacobson) robbing a house with Cuba Gooding Jr., talking to Jason Alexander about human trafficking, and fulfilling their dreams of stardom in the most perverse way (with a fake movie starring a chimp). We spoke to Jacobson about how the show’s finale came together, what we can expect if it gets picked up for season two, and who was really responsible for Jason Alexander saying “Fuck Seinfeld” in the penultimate episode. Spoilers for the finale ahead! So, let’s talk about that finale. I read the script for the finale and was like, “Oh this...

Comedy Central's comedy lineup features some true standouts, but only one show stars Cuba Gooding Jr... as himself. "Big Time in Hollywood, Fl," produced by Ben Stiller and created by Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf (who first worked with Stiller on the digital series "Next Time... On Lonny"), features Alex Anfanger and Lenny Jacobson as the Dolfe brothers, whose love of filmmaking drags them into the seedy underground of their Florida town. In this exclusive clip, we get a look at one of the films Jack and Ben Dolfe have been making — "Monkey Largo," an intense action flick that might feel familiar to any "Miami Vice" fans. What "Monkey Largo" might lack in production quality, it makes up for in bullets, blood and (as you might suspect) a chimp. Watch the clip above. "Big Time in Hollywood, Fl" airs Wednesdays at 10:30pm on Comedy Central. Read More: 'Inside Amy.

I love everything about Big Time in Hollywood, Fl., Comedy Central’s brand-new scripted comedy that stars Alex Anfanger and Lenny Jacobson as Jack and Ben Dolfe, scheming slacker brothers whose big-time Hollywood dreams land them in big-time trouble in — and out of — their snoozy Florida town. But let me confess this right now: I love their sweet buddy Del the best. Possibly a bit too much. And I didn’t mind admitting it to Jon Bass, who plays him. With his great big heart, goofy little shorts, sensible sandals and an utter unwillingness to believe that Jack and Ben are anything but a force for … Continue reading →

Big Time in Hollywood, Fl
Created by Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf
Airs Wednesdays at 10:30 pm Et on Comedy Central, starting March 25
Over the years, Comedy Central has brought a number of comedians to the small screen with their own show, whether it’s Amy Schumer, Nick Kroll, or Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. The latest duo to join that company is Dan Schimpf and Alex Anfanger, the team behind the webseries Next Time on Lonny. Their new show, Big Time in Hollywood, Fl, premieres tonight on Comedy Central, and the pilot promises an offbeat show that unexpectedly follows through on storylines while not forcing their main characters to be likeable.
The central concept of Big Time in Hollywood, Fl revolves around a delusional brotherly duo who barely work, choosing instead to spend their time making short videos that they’re sure will land them their big filmmaking break.

A few years back, Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf — Nyu buddies with big filmmaking aspirations — wrote a TV pilot about a pair of hapless brothers with big filmmaking aspirations. Then they shelved it in favor of something more instantly doable — a web series called Next Time on Lonny, starring the doe-eyed Anfanger as an aspiring reality star with a knack for over-the-top trouble. It paid off. Ben Stiller discovered Lonny, then Anfanger and Schimpf. Ben Stiller is doing whatever it takes to promote his studio's most recent web series. The actor has donned a panda suit and danced around on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in order to support of Red Hour Films' Next Time On Lonny. Stiller is the executive producer for the second season of Next Time On Lonny, which recently debuted on Maker Studios' Nacho Punch channel as well as its brand new Maker.TV platform. Stiller previously starred in a promotional "hostage" video alongside Next Time On Lonny leading man Alex Anfanger, but he took promotion to the next level with his Tonight Show appearance. Stiller donned the costume of Hashtag the Panda, a character who has a recurring role on the late night program. He then took off his panda head, soaked in a round of cheers, and summarily plugged Next Time On Lonny on national television.

The first season of the web series "Next Time On Lonny" was a relatively humble affair -- created independently by Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf, the show featured Anfanger as a reality TV star whose adventures springboard to all sorts of insane genre combinations, from murder to time travel to alien invasions. For its second season, however, Lonny's made it to the big time. It's all thanks to Ben Stiller's Red Hour Productions and YouTube distribution powerhouse Maker Studios, which have teamed up for 10 new episodes that span nearly every genre you can think of, from "Drive" to "The Wolf of Wall Street" to the post-apocalypse. Maker Studios is continuing to make inroads into the Hollywood community. It's latest traditional media partner is Ben Stiller's Red Hour Digital production studio. The two companies will team up for season two of Next Time On Lonny, a comedy web series that first ran for six episodes in 2011. Next Time On Lonny is a reality show parody created by Dan Scrimpf and starring Alex Anfanger. From that description, it seems that Maker and Stiller are trying to recapture the lightning that struck when the Stiller-produced Burning Love became a huge hit (and, eventually, a big Streamys winner) in 2012. Next Time On Lonny may not have the same big-name cast, but it does have a dedicated YouTube following that contributed more than a half-million views to the first season. “Dan and Alex are the life blood of a new generation of comedy," said Stiller. "Red Hour's policy is to...

The new web series Compulsive Love is an exercise in execution. The premise, about a hopeless romantic and his serial encounters with the opposite sex, doesn't seem particularly fresh. But by taking a fairly simple concept, neatly packaging it in a pretty box, and presenting it to us the flash and aplomb, Compulsive Love ends up being a whole lot of fun. Compulsive Love follows the life Aaron (Alex Anfanger), a young, relatable male lead who has recently been dumped by his longtime girlfriend. Aaron's rebound takes him pinballing off a number of different girls, with every encounter ending in eventual heartbreak. The first of eight episodes has been released on Compulsive Love's own YouTube channel. Aaron is an energetic lead, with elements of Ted Mosby, Charlie Kelly, and Don Juan mixed in. His friend Zoe (Laura Ramadei), with whom he works at a temp job, is a classic foil.
