The Crow: Brandon Lee’s stand-in Chad Stahelski supports the casting of Bill Skarsgard in the remake
Stuntman Chad Stahelski was close friends with actor Brandon Lee… and when Lee was killed in a tragic accident on the set of the 1994 version of The Crow, director Alex Proyas chose Stahelski to be Lee’s stand-in for the filming of scenes that still needed to be filmed involving Lee’s character Eric Draven. Lee’s face was then placed over Stahelski’s in post-production. Stahelski has gone on to become a director, taking the helm of each film in the John Wick franchise to date… and since he worked with Bill Skarsgard on John Wick: Chapter 4, it’s no surprise to hear that he supports the casting of Skarsgard in The Crow remake, which is set to reach theatres on August 23rd.
Commenting on Skarsgard’s performance in John Wick: Chapter 4, Stahelski told Esquire, “I think he’s my best villain ever.” As for his casting in The Crow,...

Bill Skarsgård has established himself in Hollywood by playing sinister characters, but he'll take a crack at the anti-hero when The Crow is released later this summer.
The first images and trailer for the movie received a mixed-to-negative response from fans of the classic 1994 movie. Most of that boiled down to Skarsgård's Eric looking more like Jared Leto's Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad than Brandon Lee's iconic interpretation of the comic book character.
However, this isn't a remake, it's a reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O'Barr. And, while the character's appearance has split opinions, the R-Rated action looks undeniably badass.
Talking to Esquire (via FearHQ.com), the actor admits to being unsure about taking on The Crow's title role. "There's definitely worry about that," he says of fan expectations. "I'm trying to view the fame aspect as a challenge and navigate through it in...

From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.
We’ve compiled a list of music-centric biopics available to stream should the urge overcome viewers.

The Crow: Bill Skarsgård's Eric Draven Is Ready For A Fight In New Still From Rupert Sanders' Remake
Created by James O'Barr as a means of dealing with the death of his fiancée at the hands of a drunk driver, The Crow #1 was released in 1989 and became an instant classic. A big screen adaptation starring the late Brandon Lee followed in 1994 and it too is beloved.
As a result, the odds are already stacked against this summer's remake. Ghost in the Shell director Rupert Sanders is at the helm, while John Wick: Chapter 4 star Bill Skarsgård takes on the role of Eric Draven.
The response to the first trailer wasn't overly positive and the movie's take on the title character - which has replaced the iconic makeup with Joker-style face tattoos - has been similarly divisive. So, yeah, we expect The Crow to struggle when it swoops into theaters in August.
Now, we have a new look at Skarsgård's transformation and it looks like Eric is ready for a fight.

The original 1994 adaptation of The Crow still has a huge, loyal following, so there was already a certain amount of scepticism surrounding Lionsgate's decision to develop a reboot. When the first trailer was released, that apprehension turned to outright disgust for a lot of fans.
Are people being a little quick to judge based off a single teaser? Perhaps, but for many, Brandon Lee will always be the only Eric Draven, and that's all there is to it.
Total Film interviewed Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, who played heroic cop Sergeant Daryl Albrecht in The Crow, for the Goth classic's 30th anniversary, and the actor admitted that he's only recently been able to revisit the film due to the tragic accident that ended Lee's life during filming.

Vertical is getting ahead of the crowds as this year’s Cannes market starts wheeling and dealing for Hollywood’s hottest projects and properties. The studio acquired the U.S. rights from AGC Studios to The Order, with Justin Kurzel in the director’s chair. Based on Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt’s novel The Silent Brotherhood, The Order stars Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, and Tye Sheridan.
Here’s a synopsis of Flynn and Gerhardt’s novel courtesy of Library Journal:
Two courageous investigative journalists have created an insider’s account of the “silent brotherhood,” the anti-Jewish, white supremacist underground that, with the justification of some perversely interpreted Christian teachings, conducts an all-out race war. The movement has gathered a group of superpatriots, zealots, malcontents, as well as, rather disturbingly, a large majority of ordinary people. It’s been a long time coming, but a remake of the 1994 film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow Remake:
Development Hell
When the original The Crow was released, it was successful enough to spawn a franchise, with three sequels following over the next eleven years. We got The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005, with several other potential sequels (including one that would have been written and directed by Rob Zombie) being developed and scrapped along the way.

Brandon Lee’s The Crow is considered a cult classic today, but the film was plagued with massive problems starting with the tragic death of the lead star in the middle of filming. Lee’s unfortunate demise was caused by an accidental firing of a gun which had a routine dummy bullet that unfortunately ended up killing him.
Brandon Lee in The Crow
This horrific incident ultimately led to a domino effect of troubles which included finding a replacement for the lead actor to complete the film. This disaster on set prompted Hollywood director Chad Stahelski to take major precautions while handling firearms in his blockbuster film John Wick. The former stuntman also exposed the uncomfortable truth behind the use of guns in the industry.
How Brandon Lee‘s Death Influenced Chad Stahelski
While any form of death is tragic, the worst kinds are the ones that could have easily been avoided.

After years of being stuck in development hell, "The Crow" remake is finally coming to theaters this summer. It stars Bill Skarsgard ("It") as Eric Draven, the role made famous by the late Brandon Lee in director Alex Proyas' 1994 comic book film of the same name. The reaction to the recently released trailer and images has been mixed, to put it mildly. Now, Proyas himself has weighed in, and the forthcoming remake does not sit well with him.
Proyas took to Facebook recently to share some of his thoughts on this new version of "The Crow," which was directed by Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman"). Proyas, for his part, didn't have anything nice to say, as he even linked to an article from Comic Book Resources titled "The Crow Remake Trailer Gets Staggering Amount of Dislikes on YouTube." Alex Proyas, who directed the original version of The Crow in 1994 is not a fan of the idea remaking the film, the new version of which will be released on June 7.
Proyas’ reservations, he says, stem not from some sense of proprietorship, but from fidelity to the original film’s star, Brandon Lee, who died when a gun malfunctioned during production.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work,” wrote Proyas in a post online. “And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. [‘The Crow’] is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy.

The first trailer for the remake of The Crow was finally released last week, and although it had its fans, it generated quite a lot of backlash. Alex Proyas, the director of the original movie, doesn’t seem to be a fan of the remake and took to Facebook to say that The Crow should remain the legacy of Brandon Lee.
“I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work,” Proyas wrote. “And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. The Crow is not just a movie. Update: If you’re wondering what original The Crow director Alex Proyas thought of the trailer for the remake, the answer is that he’s keeping most of his opinions to himself… but he has shared enough to confirm that his reaction wasn’t positive. Proyas took to social media to say, “‘Crow Wick’ Trailer? No comment.“

When it comes to the supernatural and horror genre, Bill Skarsgård’s choices seem to indicate that he has an affinity to play grim roles. While the Swedish star will be seen in The Crow reboot this summer in which he reprises the iconic role of Brandon Lee, Skarsgård terrified audiences in the 2017 film It where he played a creepy clown named Pennywise.

After being embroiled in tragedy and delays for decades, The Crow, starring Bill Skarsgård, is finally ready to hit the big screens this year. Helmed by Rupert Sanders, it took over 20 years to get the reboot rolling, but the trailer is out, and Skarsgård looks spectacular.
Based on the 1989 comic book by James O’Barr, the film tells a tale of supernatural intrigue and gore. The popularity of the franchise grew exponentially in the 1990s, and much of it could be attributed to Brandon Lee in the original cult hit.
The Crow Reboot: Mark Wahlberg Couldn’t Bag the Role for the Most Bizarre Reason – 4 Other Actors Who Also Failed Before Bill Skarsgård
Skarsgård is not new to this genre, but he keeps impressing with his bold choices when it comes to choosing scripts. The Crow is no different, and the actor has managed to leave jaws rolling on the floor.

Lionsgate’s official trailer for The Crow is three minutes of action and spoilers for those who aren’t familiar with the the original graphic novel by James O’Barr or the 1993 film adaptation starring Brandon Lee. The trailer arrived with a new still of Bill Skarsgard as the titular character and the official theatrical poster.
Skarsgard (It‘s Pennywise the Clown) stars as Eric Draven, a character he says he was honored to take on.
“But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it. He wanted to completely reimagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. It’s a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to – he is unlike any I’ve ever taken on before,” explained Skarsgard. “Working with the remarkably talented FKA Twigs was magical. After years of stops and starts, The Crow reboot is finally flying and now has the first trailer to prove it.
Bill Skarsgard leads the film, which centers on a man who is murdered, alongside his fiancée but is granted supernatural powers to seek revenge.
The Crow began life as a comic book, with James O’Barr debuting the character in 1989. It grew to new levels of popularity with the cult hit film, which starred the late Brandon Lee, who was tragically killed in an on-set accident during filming. Multiple sequels followed, including The Crow: City of Angels (1996), The Crow: Salvation (2000) and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).
But the current reboot took nearly 20 years to get off the ground, with multiple stars and filmmakers coming and going. Blade Stephen Norrington took a stab at one point, while F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall) and star Luke Evans tried to break the curse at another point.

It may be downright difficult to believe, but "The Crow" remake has finally happened. Yes, happened, not happening, as had been promised for so long. Lionsgate has now dropped the first trailer for the long-awaited new adaptation of the comic book by James O'Barr. After all these years, we are, at long last, going to see what Eric Draven looks like in a modern context a full 30 years after the first film arrived in 1994. Check it out for yourself above.
This time around, it's Bill Skarsgård, best known for his role as Pennywise the clown in the "It" movies, taking on the role of Eric Draven. Noticeably, his look is, well, different than what we've seen previously, most notably when the late Brandon Lee originated the role in director Alex Proyas' version of "The Crow." After spending more than a decade in development hell, a remake of The Crow (watch it Here) has made its way through production and is set to receive a theatrical release, courtesy of Lionsgate, on June 7th. A couple weeks ago, we saw the first images of Bill Skarsgard and singer FKA twigs as the new versions of goth rocker Eric Draven and the love of his life, Shelly; images that didn’t go over well with original The Crow director Alex Proyas. Now we’ve been informed that a full trailer for the film will be released online tomorrow – and while we wait for that, a (very) short teaser has made its way online and can be seen in the embed above. In this teaser, we’re treated to the sight of Skarsgard writhing around in a thick liquid that’s presumably meant to be blood. And that’s it.

Yesterday, we saw the first images of what Bill Skarsgard of the It films is going to look like as goth rocker Eric Draven in director Rupert Sanders’ (Snow White and the Huntsman) remake of the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here). There weren’t a lot of positive reactions, with many fans comparing Skarsgard’s look – which Sanders said was a mixture of his own look in the ’90s, “when we were squat-raving in London,” with modern influences like Post Malone and Lil Peep – to Jared Leto’s poorly-received version of The Joker in Suicide Squad. One person who took to social media to blast the look of the new Eric Draven was Alex Proyas, who directed the ’94 version of The Crow.
Sharing one of the images, Proyas said, “Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day. Next reboot thanks.” In the comments, he continued to mock the look:...

If it feels like a new take on The Crow has been in development for 15 years, that's perhaps because a new take on The Crow has been in development for, well, 15 years at least. Yet after a revolving door of directors, writers and potential leads, it's finally headed our way this year, with Bill Skarsgård playing the tragic Eric Draven and Rupert Sanders directing. Check out the first images from the new adaptation of James O'Barr's graphic novel above and below.

Bill Skarsgård is bringing “The Crow” back to life, literally. The breakout “It” star leads the new reimagining of the graphic novel that was infamously brought to the big screen in 1994. Bruce Lee’s son Brandon Lee originally played the lead role of Eric Draven, a man who comes back from the dead to take revenge on the man who murdered him and his fiancée. Lee was killed on set during the final days of production when a prop gun fired.
“The Crow” has been set for various remakes over the past 30 years, with Mark Wahlberg, Jason Momoa, Bradley Cooper, James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston, and Skarsgård’s own brother Alexander Skarsgård all previously attached to different iterations.
Now, with director Rupert Sanders at the helm, Skarsgård is taking on playing rockstar Draven who is killed alongside his lover Shelly (FKA Twigs) by her ex (Danny Huston). Draven sets out to...

Bill Skarsgård (It) takes over the iconic role of Eric Draven in Lionsgate’s new reboot of The Crow, and the first images from the film have been released ahead of an official trailer.
The Crow reboot will release in theaters on June 7, 2024, and Vanity Fair has shared three first-look images this morning that reveal Bill Skarsgård’s tattooed take on Eric Draven.
Director Rupert Sanders explains to Vanity Fair, “I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control. It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, ‘That guy is us.
