Players is a romantic-comedy film directed by Trish Sie, from a screenplay by Whit Anderson. The Netflix original film follows the story of Mack, a sportswriter who mostly spends her time with her best friend trying to come up and execute new schemes for hooking up with strangers but when Mack finds Nick, she falls heads over heels for him and now instead of coming up with hook up schemes, Mack tries to be in a serious relationship. Players stars are Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr., Tom Ellis, and Augustus Prew. So, if you loved the rom-com film here are some similar movies you could watch next.

Mack, the sly protagonist of Netflix’s endearing new rom-com Players, always closes. The 33-year-old journalist has a back pocket stuffed with plays that rarely fail. Want to convince the stranger at the bar that you can offer her the world? Or bag your next-door neighbor? Mack and her friends can walk you through the moves, honed over 12 years, to force an interaction.
The plays work well because Mack, Adam (Damon Wayans Jr.), Brannagan (Augustus Prew) and Ryan aka “Little” (Joel Courtney) are committed to research. Establishing a play requires a careful assessment of the target, the situation and the context. The plays can always help you land a steamy bar make-out, a one-night stand or maybe even a date. What they can’t do, Mack learns, is get you into a relationship.
Players, directed by Trish Sie, is the kind of romantic comedy that wears the conventions of its genre proudly.

Many romantic comedies utilize deception as a key plot point. However, for every film that incorporates an inciting fib with smarts and heart (from “While You Were Sleeping” to “You’ve Got Mail”), there are others that lack a similar savvy finesse (like “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days” and “The Wedding Date”). “Players” competes in the latter league. Acting as a dumbed-down, gender-swapped kissing cousin to “Hitch,” it centers on a gal and her pals who know all the right moves to land hookups. Director Trish Sie’s middling and at times mawkish film not only makes us hate the game, but also its players.

The cast of the new comedy features an ensemble that includes Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr., Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim, Marin Hinkle and Tom Ellis. Leslie Mann will star as one of four protagonists in Amazon's 10-episode adaptation of Naomi Alderman's The Power.
Amazon is turning Naomi Alderman's feminist science fiction novel The Power into a 10-episode series, with a stellar lead and talented director. According to Deadline, Leslie Mann has been cast as the lead in the adaptation, with Reed Morano (The Handmaid's Tale) behind the camera in the director's seat.
Alderman is adapting her own novel for the screen, along with an all-female writers' room, which is pretty damn awesome. The team will include: Claire Wilson, Sarah Quintrell, Whit Anderson, Stacy Osei-Kuffour and novelist Rebecca Levene (The Hollow Gods Trilogy).

Sarah Michelle Gellar has revealed that she would be interested in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie.
The actress told E! Online that although it was unlikely for the Joss Whedon fantasy series to hit the big screen, she would sign up if the script was good enough.

In Cannes to receive the 2013 Pioneer Prize at the International Digital Emmy Awards tonight, CSI franchise creator Anthony E. Zuiker talked about NBC drama pilot Wonderland during a Q&A this afternoon. Zuiker, who’s exec producing the series, said the Whit Anderson-scripted show will follow Alice and a new character, Clara. Clara is “having the worst day of her life” when she is sent to Wonderland where it turns out her father has been living for several years. To get her life back on track, Clara must rise up against Wonderland’s reigning Queen, the woman once known as Alice. Deadline recently reported that the pilot will not be produced within the regular pilot season because of the scale and complexity of the production. Zuiker also spoke about Cybergeddon, the series for which he’s being honored here at Mip-tv. The online thriller launched on Yahoo in September...

We reported on the first of February that an interesting project, Wonderland, had been greenlighted by NBC. Due to its late pickup and large production scale, we will not likely see it before summer. I like to think that if it’s good enough to put off for productions sake then it will be worth waiting for.
Wonderland is being produced by Anthony Zuiker, creator of CSI, and is being written by Whit Anderson. Deadline reports that the pilot will likely film at the end of this pilot season.
Synopsis:
Wonderland is set in modern times and centers on Alice and a new character, Clara. Seven years ago, Clara’s life took an unexplained turn for the worse, and a mysterious stranger tells her there may be an explanation after all… an explanation that lies in the fantastical world of Wonderland. I’ve learned that NBC has pushed Wonderland, its drama pilot set in the world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland that is executive produced by CSI creator Anthony Zuiker. The project, written by feature scribe Whit Anderson, will not be produced within the regular pilot season because of the scale and complexity of the production, including visual effects. I hear the pilot probably will start filming before the end of pilot season but will likely not be delivered before summer. Wonderland was a late pickup — it was greenlighted on Jan. 29 — and had to undergo a studio switch after ABC Studios pulled out and Universal TV took over. (The pilot’s high price tag was among ABC Studios’ reasons to bail as it is producing another expensive fairytale drama series with elaborate shoots and special effects, ABC’s Once Upon A Time.) Speaking of Once Upon A Time, it...

To read of how the Wonderland television series came to where it is today, you might think we were playing a game of hot potato. The drama has made its way from ABC Studios to NBC with production done by their own Universal TV. Wonderland is a modern day Alice in Wonderland produced by Anthony Zuiker (creator of CSI), and it sure does sound fantastic.
Wonderland follows a new heroine, Clara, who seeks out the fabled world in hopes to find answers about events that occurred 7 years in her past. All this comes at a cost as she must go up against Alice, the reigning Queen of Wonderland.
Waging war against Queen Alice? Nice twist. The script according to Deadline will be writeen by Whit Anderson, and there is no casting news as of yet to report. But pay attention because Wonderland is not to be confused with another similarly titled project,...

Anthony Zuiker found himself in a familiar situation today. In 1999, he was an up-and-coming feature writer with no TV experience who wrote a drama project for ABC Studios (then Touchstone TV) and one of its pods, Jerry Bruckheimer TV. After ABC passed on the pitch, it was taken to another network. But when the Touchstone TV-produced pilot was picked up to series by CBS in May 2000, the studio pulled out as the company’s leadership didn’t want a Disney-owned studio to deficit finance a series on another network. The project, CSI, spawned a $1 billion franchise. This season, another up-and-coming feature writer with no TV background, Whit Anderson, wrote a drama project for ABC Studios and two of its pods, Zuiker’s Dare To Pass and Brillstein Entertainment, which collaborate on development. ABC again passed on the pitch, which landed elsewhere with ABC Studio attached. But when NBC today greenlighted the project,...

We're not done yet with pilot season for the TV networks, and today we have word on two projects that could be interest to genre fans.
First, heading to ABC, is "Gothica," penned by Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) and co-produced by The Mark Gordon Company. It is described as a sexy Gothic soap set in the present day that weaves together a mythology that incorporates the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein, and Dorian Gray among others.
Next is NBC's "Wonderland," which is set in the world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland. It is executive produced by "CSI" creator Anthony Zuiker. The project, written by feature scribe Whit Anderson, stems from Zuiker’s overall deal with ABC Studios, which has him partnering with studio-based Brillstein Entertainment Partners on development. Though it's been adapted many times for the big screen, "Alice in Wonderland" may soon end up as a television series on NBC.
A pilot was ordered for Anthony Zuiker's sequel, titled "Wonderland." Set in Lewis Carroll's fantasy world, the hour long show will explore Clara's life and her war against the evil Queen in Wonderland, a girl we used to know as Alice.
The project hopes to capitalize on the success of other fairytale-themed shows like "Once Upon a Time" and "Grimm."
The "CSI" creator will helm the project with Whit Anderson attached to write the pilot episode. Look for "Wonderland" to grace the small screen on NBC this season.

NBC is getting into the fairytale business.
The network has ordered a pilot for what it is labeling an Alice in Wonderland sequel, as the unusual drama will follow-up on Lewis Carroll's classic by introducing a new character named Clara.
She will head to Wonderland "determined to revive her dreams and get her life back on track," according to the official synopsis, waging war against the reigning Queen… the woman we all know as Alice.
The pilot will be penned by Whit Anderson and executive produced by CSI creator Anthony Zuiker.
What do you think? Sound intriguing? Or like a total bust?...

NBC wants to get deeper into the fairy-tale business. The network, which already airs "Grimm," has ordered a pilot called "Wonderland" that's a contemporary update of "Alice in Wonderland."
"CSI" creator Anthony Zuiker (inset, above) is among the executive producers of the pilot, written by Whit Anderson. The story follows Clara, whose life has been a wreck for the past seven years. A stranger tells her that the solution to her problems lies in Wonderland, where she'll have to take on the land's queen -- whom we all know as Alice.
Other pilot-season news:
- "Curb Your Enthusiasm" star Jeff Garlin has signed on to ABC's "How the Hell Am I Normal," a family comedy set in the 1980s. Garlin and Wendi McLendon-Covey play hot-tempered but loving parents to three kids. Former "X Factor" contestant Hayley Orrantia has also joined the pilot, will play one of their kids. [Deadline]

Bryan Fuller says that Mockingbird Lane still could become a series depending on how well the Halloween special does. Fuller says that NBC's issue was whether the series could appeal to a broad audience, and if enough people tune in for the special, the network would reconsider. I'm still hoping Mockingbird Lane can pull a Nightingales, only without removing all the interesting parts of the pilot when becoming a series.
I'm fascinated with TV shows that get cancelled without airing an episode, whether that be the train wrecks that look so bad the network rethinks its decision over the summer, like the Scott Baio comedy Rewind, or shows that left to wither unaired over the season like Still Life. Now the Dane Cook comedy Next Caller can join those ranks. Considering how awful Next Caller looked, I'm relieved.

Boosted by the blockbuster power of The Avengers, which Whedon projects could be next for the big screen?
With The Avengers set to pass the $1bn mark at the global box office this weekend in just its third week, it's perhaps safe to say that 2012 is a very good year to be Joss Whedon. Are the Fox executives who once screened episodes of his short-lived cult sci-fi TV show Firefly out of sequence (before promptly cancelling it) quaking in their boots? Probably not. Are the producers who botched his screenplay for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie wishing they had never been born? Not likely. But as Whedon himself hinted this week, a lot more Hollywood doors are likely to open up for the director and writer of what may well end up being the year's highest grossing movie.
If Guillermo Del Toro, who seems to have fingers in so...

Fans of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer may be feeling a little extra optimistic about the coming new year. The reboot of the franchise that was planned without any involvement from creator Joss Whedon has apparently come to a halt.
According to the La Times (via MTV News), the screenplay submitted earlier in the year by Whit Anderson did not meet expectations and was "rejected completely." It was reportedly Anderson's take on the Buffy story that made producers interested in the project in the first place. If her screenplay was rejected, it could be enough to stall the project entirely. Though the Times does report that a new writer is being sought for the project, it seems doubtful the movie will get made. Remember that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" reboot that's been kicking around Hollywood? Consider it staked — for now, at least.
The Los Angeles Times reported late last week that screenwriter Whit Anderson — the newcomer who'd been hired to reinvent Joss Whedon's widely adored film, TV and comic book series about a teenage vampire slayer and her equally capable friends — has been booted from the project after delivering a script that "fell far short of expectations and, in the end, was rejected completely."
Fans of the Whedonverse and "Buffy" specifically are undoubtedly thrilled by the news of the reboot's apparent demise (the Los Angeles Times' original report notes that even though "a new writer is being sought," the project as a whole "may have lost some steam" following Anderson's disappointing effort).
