“Magnum P.I.” is coming to a close at NBC. The drama series, which was canceled by CBS last year before NBC picked it up, will not continue past the upcoming second part of Season 5.
The decision not to order a sixth season comes past the 50-day mark of the WGA strike and a potential strike by SAG-AFTRA after the actors union’s contract with the AMPTP expires on June 30. That date coincides with the end of the “Magnum P.I.” cast’s deals at NBC. Therefore, to avoid cancelling the show, NBC would have had to either order more episodes without knowing when they could enter production or extend the actors’ deals to prolong the decision-making period. Ultimately, opted to release the actors and move forward without “Magnum P.I.” on its slate.
“Magnum P.I.” was a reboot of the 1980s series of the same name that starred Tom Selleck in the title role.

Magnum P.I. was saved last summer by NBC after it was cancelled by CBS.
The procedural will now be “sexier” in its new home, according to its stars and showrunner, as characters Thomas Magnum, played by Jay Hernandez, and Juliet Higgins, played by Perdita Weeks, getting together and starting a romantic relationship.
While Magnum and Higgins have had the classic ‘will they, won’t they’ since season one and shared a kiss at the end of season four, season five kicks off with a steamy shower scene and a Baywatch-style romp.
Showrunner Eric Guggenheim, speaking at NBC’s TCA press tour, said that this relationship would have happened even if it had remained on CBS. But he added, “This season is sexier. It is more romantic, more emotional.”

Sports films are notorious for being cliche. It’s all too common for a story set in the world of sports to hit the same predictable plot points and do the bare minimum between, which is why many aren’t fans of the genre. On paper, Jay Karas’ Break Point, the story of an over-the-hill tennis player teaming up with his brother to make one last run at the Open, may sounds like more of the same, but in execution it’s head and shoulders above its peers.
Break Point focuses on two brothers, Jimmy (Jeremy Sisto) and Darren (David Walton), who were once one of the best junior doubles teams in the nation. Around that time Jimmy ditched Darren to play with someone better, and since then their relationship has been strained. The film picks up when Jimmy, now a 35-year-old man child, has been ditched by his younger partner.

Exclusive: The Voice coach Adam Levine continues his producing efforts with a single-camera comedy in development at NBC. Community, Season 4, Episode 9: “Intro to Felt Surrogacy”
Written by Gene Hong
Directed by Tristram Shapeero
Airs Thursdays at 8pm Et on NBC
For those familiar with the brilliant Angel episode “Smile Time,” it’s impossible to view “Intro to Felt Surrogacy” without thinking back on Joss Whedon and Ben Edlund’s masterpiece. One of the many impressive things about “Felt Surrogacy” is how quickly it steps out from under that shadow. Given how frequently the fourth season of Community has employed high-concept episodes as a crutch, it’s somewhat ironic that the most ambitious episode to date would be the one in which it finally establishes a unified voice.
One of the things necessary for a truly successful parody is that—once you strip away the humor, the metafictive elements, the archness—it be able to stand on its own as a strong illustration of the very thing it...

We all know that lovable theme song from Cheers and when it pops on the karaoke bars these days it is usually a big hit with the bar crowd. Well, now NBC hopes to take the theme ‘Cheers’ and music of karaoke bar and make a sitcom out of it, as Adam Levine flexes his TV muscles and goes behind the camera to produce a sitcom for NBC. Deadline reports that NBC beat out at least two other networks in a bidding war for the show, which is an ensemble comedy set at a karaoke bar. The as-yet-unnamed project is being produced by 20th Century Fox TV and Chernin Entertainment. Levine and Jake Kasdan (‘Bad Teacher’) will serve as executive producers,...

NBC and Adam Levine are set to work together outside the unscripted world. Deadline reports that the network has landed a single-camera comedy project which is going to be executive produced by the Maroon 5 frontman, who serves as one of the judges/mentors on singing competition "The Voice", along with Jake Kasdan.
Kasdan is also attached to direct the scripted show, which has received a script commitment plus penalty. To be produced by 20th Century Fox TV and Chernin Entertainment, the comedy project is set at a karaoke bar and is said to organically blend comedy with a musical element.
Set to write the upcoming show is Gene Hong ("The Goode Family"), who happens to be Levine's longtime friend. Surprisingly similar to their comedy project, their friendship reportedly started at a karaoke bar.

I hear at least three networks wanted the project, which is said to organically blend comedy with a musical element, but NBC was very aggressive, largely because of the involvement of its reality star Levine. This marks the first major NBC buy from 20th TV since the studio's former Evp Jennifer Salke was named NBC entertainment president earlier this month. The auspices on the project are all interconnected in a classic Hollywood case of Six Degrees of Separation. Levine and the project's writer,...
