Catherine Owens(I)
- Director
- Producer
- Writer
Owens is a prolific writer whose work has garnered positive response from readers internationally. A Black List reviewer states, "It cannot go unsaid that the writer is incredibly talented, and their voice stands apart from others." She invents unexpected authentic characters and puts them in unexpected genre-bending situations, which makes for fun reading and, once the film is made, fun viewing.
Owens directed and produced the award-winning short film, Surf Detroit, a social justice-themed sports short film. In addition to its many accolades, Surf Detroit remained an on-air favorite internationally for more than three years.
In addition to the many films on her slate, Cathy Owens produced and directed independent films Louie The Moon and To Let Her Go. She has her MFA from the prestigious USC School of Cinema Arts in Film Production and has a strong background in science and math.
In addition to being a producer-writer-director and wannabe surfer, Cathy is mom to two young daughters and, surprisingly, the recent recipient of the Golden Spatula for best home-made cookies at the local elementary school bake-off.
