When putting together an anti-superhero crew in a world full of superheroes, "The Boys" creators Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson introduced Billy Butcher -- a character almost as deplorable as the supes he fights against. Across 72 issues, Ennis and Robertson put their lead anti-hero in tense situations that rendered morally bankrupt decisions, ending in an all-knowing Billy Butcher smile.
While Karl Urban take on Billy Butcher in the Prime Video streaming series adaptation doesn't go quite as hard as the comics, the darkness of the character remains. His mission to wipe out the evil superheroes of the world continues to be a noble and understandable venture, but arguably, the ends rarely justify the means Butcher employs.
Season 3 of "The Boys" left Butcher with a terminal diagnosis, and therefore, a set deadline to complete his life's pursuit. Karl Urban has expressed his desire of where he wants Billy Butcher to go...

Robbie Robertson’s children have accused his widow, Janet Zuccarini, of fraud and financial elder abuse during the final years of the musician’s life.
In a new lawsuit obtained by Rolling Stone and filed earlier this week in Los Angeles Superior Court, Alexandra, Delphine, and Sebastian Robertson claim Zuccarini “took advantage of her relationship with a vulnerable and ill Robertson to enrich herself to the detriment of Robertson’s children — the sole intended beneficiaries of his estate.”

The children of The Band’s Robbie Robertson have filed a lawsuit against the late rocker’s widow, claiming that she abused him financially to inherit part of his estate by coercing him to execute documents that are “oppressive, abusive and contrary to his expressly stated intentions,” according to legal documents filed this week in California.
Robertson’s three kids joined the trustees of his estate and trust, Adriane Hibbert and David Jackel, as plaintiffs in the case against Janet Zuccarini, who they say in 2023, while Robertson’s health and mental capacity was in decline, presented him with a plan to purchase David Geffen’s former home in Beverly Hills for $6 million in which, according to the suit, the two would be “equal owners and equal contributors to expenses.” However, he ponied up all of the $1.8 million down payment, according to the complaint.

Dolly Parton knew she wanted to sing professionally from a young age. As a child, she threw herself into building a music career, writing songs and traveling to recording studios with her uncle. By high school, she was a local celebrity, with songs on the radio and a regular spot on Cas Walker’s Farm and Home Hour. Despite all this, some people in her community did not believe in her abilities. Some teachers didn’t want her to perform in a school program because they didn’t think she had the talent for it.
Some of Dolly Parton’s teachers weren’t confident in her ability to sing
By the time Parton reached high school, she had been working as a singer for years. It’s hardly surprising, then, that she announced her plans to pursue it further after graduation. Some of her teachers used this to their advantage,...

Adam Scott might have the most thankless part in Madame Web. He exists simply to share the screen with a listless Dakota Johnson and trade expository dialogue about how her character Cassie Webb doesn’t like children or anything related to family—obnoxious signposts to give the movie something like a character arc. Cast to bring the good will he earned playing wholesome snarks in Party Down and Parks and Recreation, Scott delivers his lines with a wry reserve that feels like resignation.
And yet, Scott’s mere presence in the film gives Madame Web an important quality lacking in all of Spider-Man’s MCU appearances. Because Scott isn’t playing any guy who shows way too much concern for his co-worker’s disinterest in being a mother; he’s playing Ben Parker, beloved and ill-fated uncle to Peter Parker.

A few years ago, filmmakers Emma Schwartz and Mary Robertson remember taking note of video compilations from old Dan Schneider series that showed children and young teens “enacting scenes that are arguably sexual in nature.”
“One example you see Ariana Grande squeezing a potato, or Ariana Grande — who was then a young teenager — pouring water on her chest and face,” Robertson recalls during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders TV: Documentary + Unscripted event. “And you see Jamie Lynn Spears receiving this squirt of a viscous liquid on her face. And there were many on social media who were asking, ‘Did I grow up watching these clips?’ “
Their shock over what they found on social media, together with a story about ’90s kids TV in Business Insider, is what prompted the creation of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. The Investigation Discovery docuseries set out to uncover the...

The Apple TV+ limited series “Lessons in Chemistry” tells the story of Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson), a brilliant chemist struggling against the blatant sexism of the 1950s science community before taking her skills and empowering women over the airwaves through a science-driven cooking show. But how did the artists behind the scenes transport us to the era? We spoke with editor Geraud Brisson, hair department head Teressa Hill, cinematographer Jason Oldak, composer Carlos Rafael Rivera, supervising sound editor Perry Robertson, and production designer Cat Smith for a special “Making Of” panel. Watch our entire discussion above.

Like most things in Hollywood, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” began with a promise.
After years of whispered complaints about the sometimes-shady world of children’s entertainment, an investigative team set out to expose Dan Schneider’s Nickelodeon and the years of alleged abuse endured by the kids who worked there from 1994 to 2018. Others had tried to tell this story, but this time serious journalists planned to expose the industry’s seamy underbelly — documenting past wrongs, giving voice to victims, and charting tangible change.
Ex-kid actors and “Quiet on Set” subjects Raquel Lee Bolleau and Alexa Nikolas told IndieWire they were presented with a plan for an honest look at the issues and suffering borne out by their childhoods. Lee Bolleau (“The Amanda Show”) talked to the “Quiet on Set” producers about her passion for healing and protecting young performers still in the industry; Nikolas (“Zoey...

Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV co-directors Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz have denied Marc Summers’ claim that he was “ambushed” into appearing on the Investigation Discovery docuseries.
“We are clear with each participant about the nature of our projects,” the helmers said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.
Their response comes shortly after the former Double Dare host appeared on The Elvis Duran Show, where he alleged that the directors did not disclose the nature of the feature, which launched March 17 and 18 to big viewership, when asking him to appear.
“I got called by these folks saying they wanted to do a documentary on Nickelodeon and so I said sure,” he explained.

The filmmakers behind docuseries “Quiet on Set” are not staying quiet when it comes to allegations of misleading interviewees.
After former Nickelodeon game show host Marc Summers claimed “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” directors Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz were “unethical” in their interview approach and allegedly misled him as to what the docuseries was really about, the filmmaking duo on Friday issued a statement to IndieWire.
“We are clear with each participant about the nature of our projects,” Robertson and Schwartz said.
Summers appears in the first episode of “Quiet on Set” and discusses hosting the game show “Double Dare” at Nickelodeon from 1986 to 1993. The show ended before Nickelodeon sitcom showrunner Dan Schneider joined the network. Schneider has been accused of toxic workplace behavior and mistreatment of child actors.

The films in the running for the 2024 Best Original Score Oscar are “American Fiction,” “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Oppenheimer,” and “Poor Things.” Our current odds indicate that “Oppenheimer” (3/1) will take the prize, followed in order of likelihood by “Killers of the Flower Moon” (4/1), “Poor Things” (9/2), “Indiana Jones” (9/2), and “American Fiction” (9/2).
Just two of the five musicians on this roster are returning contenders, with the first-timer subgroup consisting of Jerskin Fendrix (“Poor Things”), Laura Karpman (“American Fiction”), and Robbie Robertson (“Killers of the Flower Moon”). Robertson, who died last August at age 80, is this category’s eighth posthumous nominee and first since 1977, when Bernard Herrmann earned dual bids for “Obsession” and “Taxi Driver” nearly 14 months after his death. He would be the fourth deceased composer to win an Academy Award, following Victor Young and “Limelight” (1973) duo Raymond Rasch and Larry Russell.

The Oscar for Best Original Score is an odd below-the-line category line-up. It includes one of the most nominated artists of all time; a recent winner; a couple of newcomers; and a late, great rock pioneer receiving his very first nomination. If all five of these composers were sat down at the same table, what on earth would they talk about? Music, obviously.
“American Fiction”
Laura Karpman
Karpman has mainly been scoring Marvel series like “Ms. Marvel” and “What If…?” as well as Nia Da Costa‘s feature film “The Marvels” as of late, but she’s an incredibly prolific composer who has been scoring television, films and even video games since the early ’90s. She has also been nominated for eight Primetime Emmys, winning one for “Why We Hate” in 2020. When a woman’s body is discovered, brutally murdered during curfew hours and left on the steps of the Women’s Safety Centre, veteran Police officer Pamela Green believes that a man is responsible. Heading into the Academy Awards on March 10, with Golden Globe, BAFTA and Grammy wins behind him, “Oppenheimer” composer Ludwig Göransson would seem to have the original score Oscar sewn up.
The Swedish composer, already an Oscar winner for 2018’s “Black Panther,” spent nine months writing three hours of music for Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster biopic. His combination of orchestral and electronic elements, often given prominence in the storytelling, deepened the movie experience.
“We had three months of experimenting and writing, coming up with the sonic landscape of the score,” Göransson says, and that was before Nolan even shot a foot of film. During the editing process, “they’ve already put my music in those scenes,” and it’s then a matter of tweaking and carefully conforming the music to the cut.

After a two-year break between seasons, Prime Video’s finally set a June 13, 2024 premiere date for season four of The Boys. The twisted superhero series will kick off with the release of the first three episodes, followed by new episodes of the eight-episode season on Thursdays.
The season finale is set for July 18th.
“In Season Four, the world is on the brink. Robert Randolph was tooling around Florida when the call came. The musician, whose sacred steel slide guitar has powered his own Family Band albums and has popped up on records by Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Thomas, Santana, and Dave Matthews Band, was behind the wheel when his office phoned to tell him that Beyoncé wanted him to record with her.
“I said, ‘Record what — you sure you have the right person?’” Randolph recalls, noting his own jam-band style. “I’m the kind who plays and plays and plays on.

When Robbie Robertson and The Band performed their final concert at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom in November 1976, it was clearly an ending for the group, as expressed in the title of the 1978 film Martin Scorsese made about the event, “The Last Waltz.” While that movie — by virtually any imaginable criteria, the greatest rock and roll film ever made — documented a farewell, it itself represented a new beginning: a collaboration between Scorsese and Robertson that would last nearly 50 years and yield an astonishing series of masterpieces including “Raging Bull,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and most recently “Killers of the Flower Moon,” for which Robertson — who died last August at the age of 80 — posthumously scored an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score.
Robertson’s work in “Killers” is the apotheosis of his partnership with Scorsese, a score that exhibits the passion, variety, and depth of expression familiar from Robertson...

Following the nominations for the 2024 Academy Awards on Tuesday, Lily Gladstone, Martin Scorsese and Emma Stone were among the stars and films setting new records or carving out their own unique place in Oscar history.
Gladstone achieved a historic nomination, with the Killers of the Flower Moon star paving a new path for Native American women in the lead actress category. Meanwhile adding to his list of accolades, Scorsese has surpassed Steven Spielberg with having the most best direction nominations and, at 81, is also recognized as the oldest directing nominee. Then, Emma Stone is going into the race eyeing two possible Oscar wins for Poor Things, with both nominations making history as she follows in the footsteps of Frances McDormand’s Nomadland Oscars wins.

For today's Oscar volley, Eurocheese and Nathaniel discuss Best Original Score.
Editor's Note: This conversation began before the finalist list for Original Score was announced on December 21st but we thought we'd share as is, given what was said!
Eurocheese: Nathaniel, I'm excited to discuss this with you! I left theaters several times this year thinking, I need to look that music up when I get home. It's always fun to connect which previous films come from the same composers as well. I expect we'll see both familiar and new faces in the line up this year.
Oppenheimer's epic soundscape comes from Ludwig Göransson, recent Oscar winner for his work on Black Panther (and a nominee for its sequel), He will no doubt score his third nomination for the orchestral nuance he brings, especially standing out in the film's quieter scenes. If I had my say, though, this award would...

Updated, Monday 12:06 p.m. Pt: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tried to prepare his country for a long war, saying in a televised speech that “this battle will not end until we end and eliminate our enemy.”
“The pictures that you see from Hamas are just the beginning. We have killed many of those fighters. Every place where Hamas is active and working will be completely destroyed.”
Portions of the speech were carried on major cable news networks, with translation. CNN featured a split screen of Netanyahu and network correspondent Hadas Gold translating for viewers.
“We all want results right here, right now, but it will take some time,” Netanyahu said. “But I promise you dear citizens: At the end of the war, all of our enemies will know it was a terrible mistake to attack Israel.”

In a carriage battle about pay TV’s future, one of the original cable channels became an unexpected flashpoint.
Freeform, the Disney-owned cable channel that caters to younger women, was dropped from Spectrum channel lineups as part of Disney’s landmark deal with Charter Communications. It was no small decision, with Freeform in some 74 million homes at the end of last year, and with Charter’s nearly 15 million cable TV households no longer having access.
“When we looked across the portfolio to try to identify where the greatest value in this deal was to us, we definitely made some trade-offs,” Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden told The Hollywood Reporter after the Spectrum deal was announced. She noted that channels like Freeform already served as a pipeline of programming for streaming services like Hulu.
And while the deal saw a number of other channels were dropped in the deal, the dropping of Freeform suggests that,...

Motörhead‘s 1983 album Another Perfect Day is receiving an expanded 40th anniversary reissue including rarities, demos, and a period-specific concert recording. “Climber,” the original demo for the album track “Shine,” can be heard now ahead of the collection’s November 3rd release date.
Another Perfect Day is somewhat of an outlier in the Motörhead canon in that it’s the band’s only album to feature ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian “Robbo” Robertson, who took over for Fast Eddie Clarke in 1982.
With the addition of Robertson, Motörhead took a more “musical” approach — in Lemmy Kilmister’s words — to Another Perfect Day. Rather than relying on flat-out speed and aggression as they had with Clarke, Lemmy and company hunkered down in the studio and crafted some of the most melodic and “produced” material to ever don the Motörhead name.

The Boys has been known to push boundaries as far as they can go during its successful three-season run. And according to this returning cast member, season 4 may turn out to be the most outrageous season yet.
‘The Boys’ may get even crazier in season 4 according to a returning cast member Antony Star, Karl Urban, and Cameron Crovetti in ‘The Boys’ | Amazon Prime
The Boys will see many of its original cast returning for the fourth installment of the series. Simon Pegg, who made a very brief appearance in season 3, will also be coming back to reprise his role as Hugh Campbell. The actor had fairly decent screen time earlier in the series playing Hughie’s father.
His role diminished overtime, with the show diverting focus to a roster of newer characters. But Pegg should be featured more prominently in the upcoming season, which the star shared would more than...

Wellington, July 31 (Ians) The New Zealand government has officially congratulated the country’s national women’s football team, the Football Ferns, on their performances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. One thing you can always count on from horror anthology shows is that eventually, they'll get to an episode about ventriloquist dolls. Don Rickles starred in an episode of "Tales from the Crypt" about a ventriloquist and his dummy and the granddaddy of them all, "The Twilight Zone," had multiple episodes centered around a ventriloquist and his little wooden pal.
And why wouldn't they? Ventriloquist dummies exist on that same uncanny valley plane as overly realistic porcelain dolls that everybody's grandmother collected for some reason. They're just creepy.
For episode 98, titled "The Dummy," the storytellers wanted to convey a tale about a down-and-out ventriloquist convinced his puppet is alive and being uncooperative. Of course, to the outside world it looks like the dude is having a mental break, but in true "Twilight Zone" fashion the big twist is that the main character's doll is indeed alive. The shocking reveal goes one step further because,...
