Canada’s got Drake, Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, and now it’s “Got Talent,” too.
The global Fremantle format makes its triumphant return after 10 years off air, heading to Rogers Sports & Media-backed channel Citytv for a local adaptation of Simon Cowell’s hit talent show. “Canada’s Got Talent” enjoyed just a single season on Citytv back in 2012, with judges including actor Martin Short, opera singer Measha Brueggergosman and musician Stephan Moccio.
The format will make its comeback in partnership with Fremantle and McGillivray Entertainment Media Inc., who are on board as producers. Production will kick off this fall, with a premiere set for spring 2022. Citytv has signed on for a nine-episode run.
Cowell has judged on “Britain’s Got Talent” and “America’s Got Talent” for several years, and Variety understands he will have some on-screen involvement in the Canadian edition as well. The executive, who broke his back last year,...

Canadian distributor swoops before world premiere at Hot Docs on May 2.
First-time director and landscape designer Joseph Clement’s film centres on a mathematician who built an exquisite home in North America.
Toronto’s Jim Stewart spent a decade constructing Integral House to reflect his two obsessions: curves and music.
Integral Man explores the home and its meaning to Stewart, who hosts musical evenings with world-class performers such as Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman at his enclave in Toronto’s Rosedale neighbourhood.
Sarah Keenlyside produced the film, which receives its world premiere at Hot Docs in Toronto on May 2. It screens again on May 3 and May 5.
Blue Ice Docs plans an autumn theatrical in Canada, following a festival run.

If the name of our country's latest reality franchise is any indication, "Canada's Got Talent" ("Cgt") has a lot to prove.
Premiering tonight on Citytv, "Cgt" will showcase the talent Canadians have to offer. Recently, during a "Canada's Got Talent" press conference and screening, the producers showered the series with praise and adoration: "Everything about this show is world-class," promises Scott Moore, the head of Rogers Broadcasting.
So does it live up to the hype?
It's Home-Grown
Inevitably, "Canada's Got Talent" is going to be compared to the American version. There are obvious similarities in terms of format, but the panel feels Canada has a greater diversity of abilities to showcase.
"The kind of multicultural act you witness in the very first show, and there are many, many more to come, are not typically the same kind of acts [as the American series]," says executive producer John Brunton. "There are things that happen here in Canada,...

With basketball aerial feats, dog tricks, singers and swordplay, it almost feels like the circus has rolled into town. That's not the case at all, though. This is "Canada's Got Talent," a new reality series premiering on March 4, 2012. Based on "America's Got Talent" (of course), people from all over Canada showcase their unique abilities in front of a live studio audience and either move on to the next round, or get buzzed and booted, until a winner is crowned.
Today, initial auditions are taking place at The Metro Toronto Convention Centre, before the judges jet off to Calgary later in the week. The Huffington Post TV Canada was on-hand to discover 10 things viewers should know before tuning in to "Canada's Got Talent."

People always think they're too young to have heart attacks, but heart disease doesn't discriminate -- it can strike at any age. Measha Brueggergosman, Canadian soprano and judge on the upcoming TV show Canada's Got Talent, found that out the hard way when, at the age of 31, she underwent emergency surgery after a near death experience due to a dissected aorta in 2009.
A family history of heart disease and diabetes had compelled Brueggergosman to lose 145 pounds and undergo gastric bypass surgery around 2006. Taking up Bikram yoga helped her shed the weight, and though she seemed to be living a healthier life, she was neglecting one thing -- her cholesterol.
"I have a history of heart disease in my family and I can use genetics as an excuse, but the fact is that I simply didn't know what was going on with my blood pressure and cholesterol," Measha told The Huffington Post Canada.

She’s not in the film business though she has appeared on TV and she’s not a film actress but definitely does act. So who is Measha Brueggergosman??? She’s one of the hottest, most talked about, most exciting, most acclaimed classical music singers on the concert stage and in operas in the business today.
The Canadian born Brueggergosman has made a name for herself and perhaps some of you saw her at performing during the opening ceremonies at the Vancouver Winter Olympics Games back in February and were wondering who is that sister with the massive ‘fro? And besides, this may come to an absolutely complete shock to some of our readers, but there are black people who are involved in other forms of music besides hip-hop. No really. I’m not kidding. There are.
Well last month I did an interview with Measha. Actually it was the...
