Poor Things
With the London Film Festival’s upcoming screenings of Yorgos Lanthimos’ much heralded Poor Things, which sees Emma Stone embarking upon a fervent sexual awakening, taking place this weekend, we were able to speak to Intimacy Coordinator Elle McAlpine, co-founder of Ek Intimacy, whose work has been praised in the media by both Stone and Lantimos. Intimacy coordination is still a relatively recent aspect of both film and TV production, yet as we’ve seen highlighted on projects such as Normal People, the role is vital in not only harbouring a safe and open environment on set for actors but also bringing forth incredibly authentic and realistic fully simulated sex scenes through a myriad of techniques which in the past, have been either over glamorised or too reflective to those we see within the porn industry. Elle trained under one of the forefront leaders of the intimacy profession...

Ciarán Hinds is speaking out on the amount of sex in “Game of Thrones.”
Following the infamous criticisms on nudity and sex portrayed in the hit HBO series, Hinds admitted that he was “rather put off” by just how much sex was shown.
“I was rather put off by the amount of sexuality that was going on in it, because it was taking away from the actual political storytelling,” Hinds told The Independent. “But that’s business, I guess, from their perspective.”
Hinds portrayed Mance Rayder, aka the King Beyond the Wall, from Season 3 to Season 5. The “Belfast” actor is now set to appear in Season 2 of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.”
“Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon” went out of its way to distance itself from the original series, based on George R.R. Martin’s novels.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers up to Episode 5 of “The White Lotus,” airing Sundays on HBO and streaming on HBO Max.
Season 1 of “The White Lotus” left jaws wide open when, at the end of its fourth episode, Murray Bartlett’s Armond is caught face-deep in his employee Dillon’s (Lukas Gage) asscheeks. But with the latest second-season episode, Mike White’s HBO series may have topped that (pun intended).
“The White Lotus” introduced new characters and conflict last week when English millionaire Quentin (Tom Hollander) recruits Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) and her assistant Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) to join him, his flamboyant friends and his hunky nephew Jack (Leo Woodall) in partying at the beach club. Portia’s budding fling with Albie (Adam Dimarco) begins to flicker when Jack takes interest in her, leading to an awkward, jealous showdown at the bar between Portia and Jack and Albie and...

In episode seven of "House of the Dragon," Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) uses the phrase "the greens." It's the first acknowledgment by the series of the two factions that have arisen in the quest for the throne: the greens, who back Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), and the blacks, who back Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra mentions the greens while talking to her uncle (and husband), Daemon (Matt Smith). But where did these names come from?
It all goes back to the fifth episode, when Queen Alicent (played at the time by Emily Carey) makes a bold declaration when she bursts into the welcome feast for Princess Rhaenyra's wedding in a sumptuous green dress. Earlier in the episode, she learned that Rhaenyra had misled her, letting Alicent defend her to her father, Viserys (Paddy Considine), and losing Alicent's own father, Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), his place as Hand of the King. Larys Strong (Matthew Needham...

House of the Dragon star Fabien Frankel has said that he spent seven months preparing to film his sex scene in the show.
The British actor appears in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series as Ser Criston Cole, the guard tasked with protecting Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock).
*Spoilers for House of the Dragon below*
Episode four sees Rhaenyra taken to a brothel by her uncle Daemon (Matt Smith), where the pair kiss and begin to undress. Daemon then leaves, with Rhaenyra returning to her castle and having a far more intimate sex scene with Criston.
Appearing on EW’s West of Westeros podcast, Frankel praised episode director Clare Kilner for her work on the scene, explaining that he’d felt inspired by BBC drama Normal People and the ways it “highlighted the realities of sex, especially at such a young age”.
“It was something we talked about over seven months.

Miriam Lucia, an intimacy coordinator for HBO‘s House Of The Dragon had some things to say after Sean Bean complained about the role of intimacy coordinators in Hollywood. Speaking to the U.K.’s Times Magazine, Bean said, “I think the natural way lovers behave would be ruined by someone bringing it right down to a technical exercise. It would inhibit me more because it’s drawing attention to things.” Lucia reacted to the comments this week, politely correcting the Game of Thrones actor for his comments. “I just think he is a man of a certain age, who has been in this industry for a very long time, and he doesn’t have an experience of the other side,” she told Deadline. “Or maybe he’s had a bad experience of working with an intimacy coordinator. All I would say is that in my experience so far, I don...

“House of the Dragon” is continuing to distance itself from “Game of Thrones” — despite sharing a lot in common each week with the legacy series.
Intimacy coordinator Miriam Lucia addressed the stark (pun intended) difference between the prequel series and its HBO predecessor, especially in terms of onscreen consensual and non-consensual sex scenes.
“‘Game Of Thrones’ had a negative reputation – which they’ll admit — in terms of the press and the #MeToo movement, and with Emilia Clarke and other actors talking about how difficult and gratuitous it could be at times, and how much pressure they felt,” Lucia told Deadline. “So, I think what you get on ‘House of the Dragon’ is not only a production team that are sensitive to that, but you get a cast that is very aware of it and careful about what they will agree to. That precedent had been set.”
Lucia continued, “[Sexual content and nudity] is part of the show,...

House of the Dragon’s intimacy co-ordinator has said that Emily Carey’s comments about feeling supported during sex scenes counters Sean Bean’s controversial remarks on her role.
*Spoilers for House of the Dragon below*
Carey was just 17 when she was cast as Lady Alicent Hightower on the Game of Thrones prequel series and 18 when filming began. In one scene, Alicent is shown having sex with her husband Viserys Targaryen. The king is played by Paddy Considine, who is 30 years older than Carey.
“It scared me, because at that point I still hadn’t met Paddy… and all I saw was, you know, a 47-year-old man and me, I was a bit concerned,” Carey said in a recent interview, before adding that the “amazing” intimacy co-ordinator allowed her to feel comfortable on set.
In a new interview with Deadline, Miriam Lucia discussed Carey’s comments and how the actor...

Miriam Lucia is one of the industry’s busiest intimacy coordinators. Recent credits include HBO shows House Of The Dragon, The White Lotus season 2 and The Nevers, and movies Catherine Called Birdy and Gareth Evans’ Havoc. She is currently working on Emerald Fennel’s new feature for Amazon, Saltburn, starring Rosamund Pike, Jacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan.
We spoke to UK-based Lucia about how she works with directors and producers, how vital her line of work has become to the industry in a short space of time and challenges encountered on House Of The Dragon. Lucia worked on all 10 episodes of the big-budget prequel series across 10 months.
Deadline: It has been noted about House Of The Dragon that it is probably as violent as Game Of Thrones but it’s less explicit in terms of sexual content and nudity. Is that your sense too?
Miriam Lucia: Yes. Definitely. Game Of Thrones...
