Romance has been subdued so far in the series. There was carnal desire everywhere, but subtle eye glances were missing from The Winter King. The sixth episode adds a little bit of spice to Arthur’s story. In the previous episode, Arthur had to kill Owain, and this episode had us see his angst and regret. He was searching for answers, and he may have put his foot down on the idea of forming the Council of Kings. Convincing King Gorfydd may just bring more trouble into Arthur’s life than he expected. It makes for a calmer episode, but the tension has in no way subsided. One wrong move, and Arthur could jeopardize Britain’s future. Here is a recap of Episode 6:
Spoilers Ahead
How Did Arthur Convince King Gorfydd To Join The ‘Council of Kings’?

The fifth episode of the MGM+ series The Winter King, really showed us a glimpse of how intricate the story can be. The theatricality of the series was one of its unique features, but the fifth episode really puts a premium on it. Arthur goes up against Owain, and the result is difficult to swallow. The previous episode set up the premise for this episode’s main conflict. Derfel remained the mute witness, but he stayed true to Arthur. Merlin and Nimue’s arcs were moved forward, even though they don’t directly converge with Arthur’s, which gives a proper demarcation between plotlines. Owain had gone off to Cadwys in the previous episode and returned with the tax. Derfel was given gold coins almost as a bribe for keeping his mouth shut about the tragedy in the tin mines. But Arthur, a thinking man, caught onto his lie, and...

The Winter King Episode 4 hinged on the arrival of King Gofydd. Arthur had let Gundleus go in the previous episode, keeping his beloved Ladwys as leverage. Meanwhile, Owain had left Arthur and gone off on his own adventure with Derfel and the others to get the tax from Cadwys. Arthur was left waiting for Gundleus’ return. He also had to keep an eye on Ladwys, because if she died, Gundleus wouldn’t ever return. The Edling King’s Naming Ceremony was inching closer, and as the days passed, everybody’s faith dwindled in Arthur’s seemingly whimsical decision to let Gundleus go. Nimue, too, finds herself in a dilemma after Merlin returns to Caer Cadarn. There are a lot of things to cover in The Winter King Episode 4, so here’s a recap.

Warning: contains major spoilers for The Winter King episode 2 (not yet airing in the UK), and repeated reference to sexual assault.
There are endless ways to hurt a female character on screen. Just like men, they’ve got sliceable flesh and bones that break. Women can be tortured with hot irons or sharp spikes. Their loved ones can be torn from them, their wealth stolen and their homes burned to the ground. Any of the above would motivate a woman to an act of high-stakes revenge. Really it would. Just try it and see.
So… how come it’s always rape?
In The Winter King, MGM’s new Arthurian action series adapted from Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicle books, King Uther Pendragon puts his trust in the wrong man. By entrusting his new-born heir Mordred to apparently reformed enemy Gundleus, Uther lets a snake into his kingdom. When Uther dies,...

Chronicling Arthur’s journey in the new MGM series The Winter King, we are already in battle mode as, in the second episode, Gundleus sheds his meek persona and reveals who he truly is. Arthur’s return to Caer Cadarn is imminent, and the question that must have mattered to the creators is, ‘How heroic can Arthur’s journey really be?’ The stakes in episode 2 go through the roof, and one has to squeamishly watch every frame, as you never know when and how another gruesome and unpredictable death will occur. As we know, Arthur was banished in the previous episode, and Merlin went to bring him back after the birth of Prince Mordred. According to Merlin’s vision, Mordred was going to grow up to be an evil tyrant, and Arthur was the only hope for fighting him and reuniting Britain.

The Joker has basically become as iconic as Batman himself in modern culture. These days, we're seeing just as much of The Clown Prince of Crime as we are of the Dark Knight, with "Joker 2" recently wrapping production and a fresh approach to the character from Barry Keoghan, who showed up in a scene from Matt Reeves' "The Batman" and could likely return in "The Batman: Part II."
Since Jack Nicholson's Jack Napier transformed into the iconic Batman villain in Tim Burton's "Batman" back in 1989, there have been several cinematic versions of The Joker, helping propel the character further into the public consciousness and raising his profile as an enduring pop culture figure. Of course, The Joker's history stretches much further back than the late-'80s. The infamous rogue has been a mainstay in the comics for more than 80 years, where he's been the focus of countless...

There is both good news and bad news for the new British series The Winter King. The bad news first: It will be compared to Game of Thrones, and there is just no way around that. The storyline, the setting, and the treatment will all remind viewers of that legendary fantasy drama. The good news for The Winter King is that it is so sure of its world and its characters that it manages to stay grounded and has enough gusto to stand on its own as a semi-historical drama. The first episode lays out the primary characters and builds a solid foundation for the series to leap from.
The plotline goes something like this: In the 5th century Ad, in Britain, High King Uther Pendragon is trying to stop the tribal wars and is making efforts to unite Britain. Their main adversaries are the dreaded ‘Saxons.’ Uther banishes his ‘illegitimate’ son Arthur,...

The Broadway revival of Camelot is ending its run on July 23.
The revival of the Lerner & Loewe musical, which features a revised book by Aaron Sorkin, began its run on March 9 at the Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater and opened on April 13.
The revival of the 1960 musical received mixed reviews, but capacity dipped to 80 percent and grosses fell in recent weeks. Additionally, Camelot received five Tony Award nominations, including best revival of a musical, but did not take home any trophies. The production had planned to extend through at least Sept. 3.
The Bartlett Sher-directed revival, originally written by Alan Jay Lerner and centering on King Arthur’s creation of his kingdom and the love triangle between Arthur, Queen Guenevere and Sir Lancelot, featured a slightly trimmed down story and snappier dialogue, courtesy of Sorkin, who also removed all supernatural elements from the plot. Sorkin and Sher had previously...

There was a moment I knew much was going wrong with Aaron Sorkin's musical bookwriting debut with the "Camelot" Broadway revival. It arrives when Phillipa Soo groans at the title number "Camelot" with an attitude that reads "Is this guy seriously doing a musical number?"
Yet, the same scene builds to a realization that Sorkin's penmanship can go right. It's when the young King Arthur (Andrew Burnap) persuades his arranged betrothed, Guenevere (Soo), of a risky experiment: "Together we may discover if power might be harnessed as a force of good." The promise of this experiment persuades the skeptical princess that her marital purpose might yield a net gain — as long as she doesn't over-test her obligations.
Those aware of "Camelot" and its often-adapted legend source material (credited to T.H. White's "The Once and Future King" in this case) know that the burgeoning passions between Guenevere and the...

What’s a Camelot without a little magic?
Aaron Sorkin works up an answer to that question in the new Lincoln Center Theater production of the 1960 Lerner & Loewe musical, and the result is an adaptation that seems at every turn to be pleading its case for its own relevance. Where the West Wing creator conjured a real sort of writerly sorcery in 2018 with his transformation of the beloved property To Kill A Mockingbird into a new, relevant and thrilling stage work, his efforts this time around often seem strained in their attempts to drag Camelot into the 21st Century.
In its way, Camelot, at least as we’ve come to know it until now, is, in its stodgy and fitful way, a musical as emblematic of the 1960s as the more obvious generation-defining theatrical statements of the era (“Gimme a head with hair!”). Camelot, with its “might for right” social...
