Crowns and sashes weren’t the only accessories on display Monday as 51 masked hopefuls assembled in Memphis to compete for the title of Miss USA.
Broadcast live on Fyi, the refreshingly self-aware pageant kicked off with some banter between hosts Akbar Gbaja-Biamila and Allie Laforce, who joked that Miss USA has been “dominating the news cycle” this week. “You can’t even turn on the news without hearing about Arizona, Michigan — all fierce competitors,” Laforce noted.

Dead To Me creator Liz Feldman recently announced that the show’s upcoming third season will be its last. Celebrating four Emmy nominations following Tuesday’s announcement, Feldman told Deadline the idea for how the show would end came to her in a flash during production on Season 2.
“I always knew from the inception of the show that I didn’t want it to be a long long-running show,” she said. “Then there was a certain point when we were in production on Season 2 when the end of the show came to me, pretty profoundly, so I realized, ‘I know the story that I have to tell’ and Season 3 feels like the right time to do that. It’s just something that came to me organically, and I tend to try to follow the gut feelings I have.”
Feldman also said she was impressed by the self-editing skills of creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge,...

‘Lives of the Saints’ Theater Review: ‘Venus in Fur’ Author Delivers Cheap Laughs and Low-Key Whimsy
The title “Lives of the Saints” promises so much: kinky medieval torture, bizarre eating disorders, blood spurting from the hands and feet at key moments. None of these things are touched on in the David Ives comedy, which opened Tuesday at New York’s Duke on 42nd Street, and is actually not one play but six short skits. What these skits — some new, some not — have to do with saints is that the last and the best of them is titled “Lives of Saints,” and portrays two elderly cooks (Kelly Hutchinson, Liv Rooth) who prepare meals for funeral-goers in a.

Preview performances of Liz Duffy Adams' "Or," have been canceled for the weekend due to an injury obtained by one of the three cast members. According to a statement issued by the show's producers, the injured actor, Andy Paris, "plays multiple roles in this restoration-style, fast-paced comedy." A representative for the show told Back Stage that Paris was under the care and supervision of a doctor, but stated that the nature of the injury was unknown, as were any implications for the show's run beyond this weekend. "Or," also stars Kelly Hutchinson and Maggie Siff and is scheduled to open at Women's Project on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

The title of Hysterical Psycho (currently playing the Tribeca Film Festival) refers to at least one of the characters and is a pretty good description of the movie itself as well. It’s a berserk, over-the-top, wildly uneven assault of humorous and homagistic horror that’s decidedly not for all tastes—but those who do enjoy its flavor are gonna eat it up.
The feature writing/directing debut of actor Dan Fogler (recently seen paying tribute to a different strain of genre worship in Fanboys) offers up a Hitchcock homage and a fart joke in its first minute, conveyed via old-fashioned black-and-white animation—a fair indication of the breadth and variety of influences at work here. The sequence that follows offers up a history of Moon Lake, which is imbued with “lunar radiation” that can unbalance any mind unfortunate enough to come near it. After a brief color interlude, cut...

Dan Fogler, actor and playwright, steps behind the camera to tell a tale of insanity and horror in grainy black and white. Part of theatre troupe Stage 13 Dan Fogler meant for "Hysterical Psycho," to be a an acting exercise for his cast, but the film blossomed into something grander. Set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, this April 24, the film will offer a deaf mute sister for laughs and various offings of characters that will entertain those fortunate enough to live in the New York greater metropolitan area.
