Before Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Vs Maidaan Box Office Clash: 5 Huge Eid Battles That Did Not Happen (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Akshay Kumar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is releasing on Eid 2024, and while the film was enjoying a solo release date till a week back, Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan has dropped in to occupy the same release date. The two superstars will now lock horns at the box office for the 9th time in their career.
However, while the two films are ready to clash at Eid, which might affect each other, the festival release date is the most sought-after date in Bollywood. Generally, it has been Salman Khan who has always ruled the Eid release date almost every year.
Even in 2023, Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan was released on Eid. However, this year, while Bhaijaan is taking a sabbatical, Eid was a major opportunity to tap on.

Exclusive: S.S. Rajamouli is currently assembling a production team for a new movie about the birth and rise of Indian Cinema.
Rajamouli, whose Rrr racked up an Oscar win and over $166M WW, is not directing, we understand. At $130M, Rrr is the third highest grossing movie in Indian cinema. Rajamouli is ‘presenting’ which over in India is a bigger title than producer on a film, though akin to how Hollywood views the role of a producer.
The new biopic about Indian Cinema is not yet titled, though reps for Rajamouli promise it’s a “magnum opus telling” which will be told “on a huge scale and canvas.”
Rrr followed the fictitious telling of two legendary revolutionaries and their journey away from home before they started fighting for their country in the 1920s.
Rrr won an original song Oscar this past spring for its single “Naatu Naatu” written by M.M. Keeravani and Chandrabose.

Rrr just won a well-deserved Oscar for Best Song. The film deserves it and so does the Indian film industry that sometimes gives us true gems such as this wonderful film. Following “Naatu Naatu”s historic Oscar win for Best Original Song the live performance at Sunday’s performance has come under fire for its exclusion of South Asian choreographers and ensemble dancers.
Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, who recorded the song for the “Rrr” soundtrack, sang onstage alongside two lead dancers in place of stars Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr. The telecast recreated the scene from the film in which their characters, Ram and Bheem, face off against a large party of white Brits using the power of Telugu dance.
Critics pointed out that the performance was choreographed by “So You Think You Can Dance” duo Napoleon and Tabitha D’umo, neither of whom are of Indian descent. Nor did the ensemble prominently feature dancers of South Asian descent, a missed opportunity for wider representation, critics said.
The Academy did not comment further on the backlash. In an interview with AMPAS’ magazine A.

I appreciated the inclusion of interesting choices like Bardo, Good Night Oppy, and Rrr on the initial twenty-wide list, and was pulling for Nope and Thirteen Lives to move on from the next stage of ten. But none of that happened, and we’re left instead with five very different choices, none of which are based on original material.

Streaming giants like Netflix and Prime Video have made it even easier for American movies to gross huge numbers globally, and they’ve made it easier for foreign films to garner more widespread attention in the United States. The hugely popular Indian film Rrr is the latest success story in that vein: It was a commercial hit in its home country and picked up steam when it was dubbed in English for distribution through Netflix in mid-2022.
The film, an adventure epic from Indian filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, began drawing comparisons to Parasite for its ability to attract large worldwide audiences. It was a hit at the box office and on the streaming platform for months. Despite its large fan base and commercial success, Rrr hasn’t earned the attention from the Academy Awards that many think it deserves. There are a few potential reasons why, which fans and film critics have explored.

Rrr star Ram Charan believes that S.S. Rajamouli’s action juggernaut is a watershed moment for Indian cinema. The country’s film industry is currently delineated by language and region, such as Bollywood (Hindi cinema) or Tollywood (Telugu cinema), in Rrr’s case. But Charan is hopeful that Rrr’s (short for “Rise Roar Revolt”) global success will blur the lines of India’s film industry moving forward.
“During the promotion of Rrr, the imaginary lines were blurred. We were not just promoting Rrr, but we were also promoting the sense of having one film industry called the Indian Film Industry. And I can tell you that it is actually happening in India right now,” Charan tells The Hollywood Reporter.
In the 1920-set action epic, Charan plays Alluri Sitarama Raju, a revolutionary leader who uses his position as a mole within the Indian Imperial Police to ultimately arm his former village against the British Raj.

The success of Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite showed that American audiences are more open to watching foreign films than ever before. Even accounting for that refreshing development, the rise of Rrr as one of the significant movies of 2022 is still surprising. The filmmakers behind this extravagant three-hour Telugu language alternate history of Indian revolutionaries fighting back against British rule were mostly unknown outside of their home country, but the excellence of Rrr organically created a fanbase around the movie that broke viewing records once it arrived on Netflix.
In the wake of the film’s popularity, the stars of Rrr now want to act in American productions. They already have ideas about what type of movie they would want to be in.

2022 was full of action-packed hit movies like Top Gun: Maverick, Rrr, and Bullet Train. Despite being a Telugu-language film made for the Indian market, Rrr became one of the biggest surprise hits of the year in the US and has been winning big since its release. The movie has put the actors and director on the map, and two of its stars now want to be the next Iron Man.
‘Rrr’ has been breaking records since its release
Rrr is a fictional retelling of the friendship and lives of two real-life revolutionaries, Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju, in the 1920s. The movie takes on a What If? type of format exploring the undocumented period in the revolutionaries’ lives as they begin to fight for their country.
Rrr draws attention to the abuses and inequalities of colonial rule and follows the real-life Indian heroes teaming up against their British oppressors.

When Chinonye Chukwu’s Till, about how Mamie Till-Mobley channeled her grief over the murder of her son Emmett Till into a movement for justice, premiered at the New York Film Festival this fall, there was seemingly instant Oscar buzz for star Danielle Deadwyler, who plays Till-Mobley, with some saying she’d win the best actress nomination.
But when the 2023 Oscar nominations were announced Tuesday morning, Deadwyler wasn’t even among the nominees, despite experts predicting she’d make the cut and earlier nods by awards and critics groups. And on top of that, Till, didn’t receive any nominations, even in the best song category where some thought it would break in.
On Tuesday’s The View, Whoopi Goldberg noted simply that “unfortunately my film, Till, wasn’t nominated.”
Also among the shocking snubs was Viola Davis in the best actress category and everyone involved with The Woman King.

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
Is Ntr Jr. inching closer to joining the MCU? As I first told you in last week’s “Just for Variety,” the “Rrr” star says he’d love to do a Marvel movie. Well, I am doing my part to make this happen. The two chatted for only a moment, but let’s hope this is the start of something big. Just a few hours before, “Rrr” co-star Ram Charan told me he’d also be up for a superhero role. “Absolutely,” he said with a big smile. “Captain America! Why not? We also have amazing superheroes in India. Why not invite one of our superheroes to come here?”

While the Oscar nominations haven’t been revealed yet, the potential front-runners are becoming more obvious following the recent Golden Globe wins and last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards. While Austin Butler is widely considered a favorite to win for Elvis following his Globe win, last night Brendan Fraser took the best actor trophy for The Whale, meaning the award race is neck and neck between the two of them. The same goes for best actress, with Michelle Yeoh taking the Globes, but Cate Blanchett winning for Tár as the Critics’ Choice.
