We’re currently in a boom period for superhero films, with plenty more on the way. It’s the golden age for comic book fans. Characters like Wonder Woman, Dr. Strange and the Justice League are all coming to theaters, joining established franchises like Thor and Captain America. But some of you may not know that these characters all had live-action movies made about them before. Cinelinx looks at 7 obscure super films you probably haven’t seen.
#1. Doctor Strange: In 1978, a two-hour made-for-tv movie aired about the master of the mystic arts. Dr. Strange was meant to be a pilot for a proposed weekly CBS TV series. Peter Hooten played Doctor Strange and Jessica Walters played villainess Morgana Le Fey. CBS was already airing Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk and was trying to go for the hat trick, bringing the Doc to TV. However, it was not to be.

There’s bound to be mistakes when booking a wrestling company. A continued run of success without a variety of errors just isn’t possible. Some wrestlers don’t receive the push they should, others are over-pushed, storylines are rushed, or are just poorly executed. On top of that, in this modern era, WWE has five hours of cable TV to provide every single week. Throw in a couple more for their network and international markets and mistakes are bound to happen. Sure, the company makes a solid 10 mistakes every Monday night, (I mean, could anyone argue that putting Kathy Lee Gifford on Raw was a good idea?) but what big errors have WWE made over the past 12 months?
While each entry may not sound that lethal by itself, when they start to pile up, that’s when the real trouble begins. Just look at the Awa, WCW,...

Comedian Jan Hooks died earlier this week at the age of 57 after a long battle with an undisclosed illness. Hooks was known for her roles on Designing Women and 3rd Rock from the Sun, but she was best known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. Hooks was a cast member on SNL from 1986-1991, joining comedians that included Dana Carvey, Kevin Nealon (whom she dated for a time) and the late, great Phil Hartman.
Saturday Night Live was struggling at the time and was nearing the brink of cancellation. Executive Producer Lorne Michaels brought the show back to basics, hiring a new cast which included Hooks, who was great at impersonations. You’d think it was the real people. In memory of Hooks, we’re giving you Hooks’ five best SNL moments.

Jan Hooks, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, died on Thursday in New York. She was 57.
Jan Hooks Dies
Hooks' death was confirmed by her representative Lisa Lieberman to CNN. She had apparently been suffering from a serious illness.
Hooks is best known for her stint on Saturday Night Live, which ran from 1986-1991. On the sketch show, Hooks took on a number of notable impersonations, including Hillary Clinton, Kathy Lee Gifford, Bette Davis and Jodie Foster. Her most memorable role on the show, however, was probably as Candy Sweeney, one half of the popular Sweeney Sisters with Nora Dunn.
Back in 1980, Hooks, a native of Georgia, got her start on The Bill Tush Show and later landed a role on TV series Not Necessarily the News. She went on to appear in features Wildcats, Funland and Batman Returns and star in Designing Women as Carlene Frazier Dobber.

FX has officially renewed The Americans for a third season. Ratings aren’t great for this terrific show, but apparently FX was able to make it work thanks to DVR numbers and critical praise. Too bad that kind of equation wasn’t able to save Terriers from cancellation.
To paraphrase a pair of wise bears, “More wigs more fun!”
Barney Stinson‘s catchphrase, “Legend — wait for it — dary” is what linguists call that a “tmesis,” where a word or phrase is interrupted for (usually comedic) effect.
In a profile in The Hollywood Reporter, John Oliver says that making a satirical news show on a premium channel like HBO means more freedom to tackle challenging topics. “To do a very aggressive piece on [General Motors] before a congressional investigation, that’s potentially a problem on commercial TV. I don’t think it would be outlawed. But I think there would be a sense of,...

With the nasty business of cancelling its two bubble dramas, ABC Family finally ordered more episodes of The Fosters and Twisted along with a third season of Switched at Birth. I’m relieved questions of “Where are they going with Jude?” won’t go unanswered like Huge fans’ questions about Alistair.
Lifetime has ordered a pilot about a staffer on a dating reality show whose job involves manipulating the cast to ensure drama. Former Buffy, Grey’s Anatomy and Glee writer Marti Noxon is tasked with the adaptation, which probably means I should brace myself.

Abigail Spencer is no stranger to television -- since she was discovered at a taping of "Live with Regis and Kathy Lee," she's appeared on a plethora of shows, from "All My Children" to "Mad Men" (where she romanced Don Draper as Sally Draper's idealistic teacher). Her most recent small screen work, a role that's made her an Emmy hopeful, has been in Sundance Channel's first foray into wholly original programming, the critically acclaimed drama "Rectify." In the series, which recently ended its first season and is available now on DVD, Spencer plays Amantha Holden, whose brother Daniel (Aden Young) has just been released from a 19-year stint in prison but has yet to be fully exonerated. As if her unusual name wasn't enough of an indication, Amantha is somewhat of an outcast, returning to her hometown of Paulie, Georgia after having moved to the big city of Atlanta.

It’s Kanye West versus the Kardashians on The Gossip Table. According to Rob Shuter, the rapper is battling it out with the reality clan over Kim and baby North. And the name is just round one.
“Doesn’t that say to you that Kanye has won round one, because there’s no ‘K’ in the name and Kanye’s name is in it?” Kathy Lee Gifford asked Shuter on Today.
Gifford may be on to something. West was reportedly spatting with Kris Jenner during the W magazine interview. Then there’s all the reality TV. The rapper doesn’t want his child to be on any show. Obviously that’s not how the Kim Klan operates.

Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford hilariously compared their ‘private’ grooming on ‘Today’ while discussing shaving, waxing and mowing. Read on!
Poor Hoda Kotb. Kathie Lee Gifford lured her into making the most private of revelations — Hoda’s private area is shaped like a “landing strip” – and then she told her that it’s just “wrong!”
Was it the wine? Was it the St. Patrick’s Day green-colored beer that the ladies were drinking on Friday, March 15th’s episode of Today?
In any case, Hoda couldn’t stop blushing after Kathy Lee continued to needle her – “it is a new landing strip? No one likes an old landing strip!” Not to worry though, Hoda confirmed “everything’s new.”
“Hoda just told the whole world she has a landing strip!” Kathie Lee said, looking shocked. Hoda, clearly embarrassed added that she didn’t even realize what she had said until Kathie Lee repeated it.

Robsten certainly has a long, messy, tear-soaked road ahead of them if they want to sort out their relationship issues, but as of today, it looks like they’re planning to join the other (extremely, extremely lucky) celeb couples who weathered a cheating scandal. Good luck, you two! In case you’re interested, there’s probably more than a few lessons to be learned from…
Kathie Lee & Frank Gifford
Kathy Lee might be blissfully enjoying Wine-sday with Hoda every week now, but in 1997 her world was rocked by the revelation that her husband Frank had cheated on her with flight attendant Suzen Johnson. It probably didn’t help that Johnson went public with the intimate/gross details, but as of today Kathy and Frank are still going strong.

Regis Philbin has plenty of TV wisdom to share with Michael Strahan, the former New York Giants star Kelly Ripa picked to be his replacement on the renamed "Live With Kelly And Michael." In an interview with "Entertainment Tonight," Regis gave Strahan advice on working with Ripa, talking football on the air and interviewing celebrity guests.
First, Regis complimented Kelly's new co-host. "I think he's a great guy ... I've known him for a long time now."
He also suggested Strahan might have a hard time talking about his favorite sport on the show. "Here's my advice to him: Don't talk football on the show. Remember when I used to talk football on a Monday after the pro games? [Executive Producer Michael Gelman] would give me the eye, one eye [would] raise up, and Kathy Lee didn't like it, and Kelly didn't like it. So, my advice to our friend Michael Strahan is, no football, ever.

Turns out Penn Badgley is not just another pretty face – apparently he has a pretty voice as well. Who would've thought "Gossip Girl"'s Dan Humphrey could carry a tune? In his latest film, "Greetings From Tim Buckley," Badgley manages to capture the very essence of one of the most ethereal musicians of the '90s, Jeff Buckley.
Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, "Greetings From Tim Buckley" chronicles the days in the life of Jeff Buckley leading up to a tribute concert for his mostly absent father, 1960s folk artist Tim Buckley.
We caught up with a particularly chatty Badgley to talk about how he prepared to play an iconic music artist, his own personal music background and, of course, his hair.
Going into this, were you a fan of Jeff Buckley or his father, Tim Buckley?
I didn't know Tim's music at all. I didn't know Tim existed before this script.

A new Broadway season is about to begin and, with it, new life has been brought to my posts. After over 900 posts, 50 comments, over 325 Tony nominees and over 75 winners in the two-and-a-half years I blogged independently about the Tony Awards, I am proud to be joining the team at ScottFeinberg.com.
Without any further ado, I would like to begin with a look ahead at the Broadway shows that will be coming up this year. I have made this list as comprehensive as I could given what information is available but, as is often the case, there is much more data available right now about the fall season (September through the winter holidays) than the spring season (Christmas through the Tony Awards in June) on Broadway. I will update this post with more details as information becomes available.

Kathy Lee! We thought you’d be a blast at weddings, not a wet blanket. We envisioned you doing the Electric Slide shoeless with an open bottle of merlot, not peeping on Taylor Swift in order to blow up her spot afterward. “Why can’t I stay out of trouble? I was just a guest at that wedding. [Kyle Kennedy] is actually my granddaughter by marriage ,” Kathy Lee admitted on Today…today. Gifford went on to confirm that, yes, Taylor Swift did crash Kyle Kennedy’s wedding with her beau Conor Kennedy just like the bride’s mother Victoria Gifford Kennedy claimed and, no, Kathy Lee Gifford could not stop herself from blabbing about it to the press. “The truth is, because I was there, Vicki’s account is accurate,” Kathy said, explaining that the singer was asked to leave the nuptials “twice.” Yikes, Taylor!

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - Kathy Lee Gifford took to Twitter to apologize to Martin Short for her on-screen slip up, where she inquired about his successful marriage, not realizing Short's beloved wife died in 2010 from natural causes. "I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family. He handled the situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I'm so grateful," she tweeted Wednesday. Gifford was trying to pay the actor a compliment, but created an uncomfortable situation without realizing it. "He and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business. How many years now for you guys?" she asked, to which Short replied, "36 years." "But you're still in love?" she continued, and he simply said, "Madly in love."...

Actor Martin Short brushed off marriage questions from TV presenter Kathy Lee Gifford during a live U.S. show on Wednesday - because his tragic wife Nancy Dolman died two years ago.
The funnyman was promoting his upcoming movie Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted on breakfast programme Today when conversation turned toward his personal life.
However, interviewer Gifford failed to conduct proper research and she applauded Short's long-lived marriage to comedienne Dolman, who lost her battle with cancer in 2010, setting the stage for a very awkward chat.
But gracious Short kept his cool, skirting over the issue instead of calling out the 58-year-old host on air.
Gifford said, "He and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in showbusiness. How many years now for you guys?", to which he responded, "We (had been) married for 36 years."
Gifford, however, kept pressing, saying, "But you're still, like, in love?" Short forced a small smile and responded, "Madly, madly in love."
Fans watching the awkward interview were mortified, taking to Twitter.com to fire off their thoughts.
One fan wrote, "Kathy Lee Gifford just had an #epicfail (sic)," while another tweeted, "Just saw Kathy Lee Gifford ask Marty Short abt (about) his wife/marriage. She died abt 2 yrs ago. Gulp! He was very gracious."
Gifford has since realised her big blunder and has taken to her Twitter page to apologise for her mistake.

'It was difficult for all of us,' Michaels says of Wiig's tearful goodbye dance.

Lorne Michaels has seen some of the greatest comedy minds of all time come and go on "Saturday Night Live" over the past 37 years. And while it's always hard to bid farewell to someone who has blossomed into a star on your stage week-after-week while creating indelible characters, Michaels said the tear-stained last waltz with Kristen Wiig on Saturday's season finale was one of the rougher ones.
Though NBC hasn't confirmed it yet, Wiig made what is believed to be her final appearance on the show after seven years of making America laugh along with the Target Lady, Gilly and boozy Kathy Lee Gifford. The waterworks were flowing as she slow-danced with her cast mates to the strains of the Rolling Stones' "Ruby Tuesday,...

Kristen Wiig on SNL's Season Finale
Photo: NBC
There are many different ways to leave "Saturday Night Live." Some castmembers get dumped after a few episodes and are never heard from again and others have long, productive runs and graduate to movies. But most just kind of disappear and are replaced by someone younger, prettier, more versatile or just newer when the next season rolls around.
Kristen Wiig was never a typical "SNL"er. On a show that has minted a galaxy of stars, Wiig always had a little something extra, and when it came time for her final curtain call you could tell. During Saturday night's season finale, Wiig was given a rare chance to say goodbye to the show that helped make her a TV and movie star when she,...

The Academy Awards came and went without a win for her screenplay, but there's no question that Kristen Wiig is a hot commodity. The sink-pooping hilarity of Bridesmaids, which she co-wrote over a number of years, has only fueled her rising star as a Saturday Night Live featured player. And there are reports floating that she's planning on leaving SNL at the end of the season.
If so we'll really miss the myriad characters, original and impersonated, that she parades around SNL like someone proud to wear toilet paper on her shoe. To wit, here are some of the biggest hits and misses of Wiig’s SNL career:

Earlier this week I posted my predictions for tonight's feature film winners and asked you to vote on yours, and one race in particular definitely split the audience as Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady) just edged out Viola Davis (The Help) in the Best Actress voting by three votes, 332 to 329. Most of the other races were more or less blow outs with George Clooney (The Descendants) the front-runner for Best Actor, Christopher Plummer (Beginners) the front-runner for Best Supporting Actor, Octavia Spencer (The Help) the clear front-runner for Supporting Actress and The Help more than doubling up The Artist in Best Ensemble. The shortlist for Britain's National Television Awards is out, and it will pit Downton Abbey against Doctor Who for the top prize, though Downton inexplicably received no nominations for the cast. They face off against Merlin and Waterloo Road. Interestingly, John Barrowman and Eve Myles both got nominations for what to me at least was a very forgettable Torchwood.

Hot in Cleveland debuted in 2010 as the highest-rated series TVLand has ever aired. The sitcom, starring Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Wendy Malick and Jane Leeves, follows four single women described as "past-their-prime" as they attempt to find themselves (and find husbands) in Cleveland, Ohio. At the end of Season 2, the Emmy-award winning show has delved into lesbianish territory, with Wendy's character, Victoria, marrying Jane's Joy in Canada. Of course, they aren't lovers — it was "accidental" and alcohol-induced.
Last week, Hot in Cleveland returned for a third season, and Joy and Victoria are still married, begrudgingly. But when Victoria is invited to discuss her past soap career on talk show The Chatter, she decides to use her marriage as a career-reviver after host Christal (played by Kathy Lee Gifford) says they are looking for a fourth co-host but she has to be a lesbian ("to compete with the Rosies and the...

Is it time to for Judy Grimes to book her own plane out of town?
Kristen Wiig may be in her last season on "Saturday Night Live," Showbiz411's Roger Friedman reports. The actress, who began in 2005 on the show and has earned three straight Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, has seen her star bloom over the past year, thanks especially in part to her blockbuster comedy "Bridesmaids," which she wrote and starred in.
The film provided a major showcase for her talent, which ranges from impersonations, outrageous original characters to more subtle emotional turns. She played a naive Christian woman in the Simon Pegg alien film, "Paul," and has had a number of supporting roles in films such as "MacGruber" and "Knocked Up."
Last week, Jon Hamm said that he wasn't sure Wiig would spring to do a sequel of "Bridesmaids"; she'll next star in the dramedy "Imogen.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries got married yesterday in a lavish ceremony at a private estate in Montecito. The details of the big day were kept under wraps for weeks, though it was revealed that Kim wore a custom-made ivory Vera Wang gown for her walk down the aisle and changed into two different white dresses by the same designer during the reception. Her maids of honor and bridesmaids were also decked out in ivory dresses from Vera Wang, and Kris donned not one but two Ermenegildo Zegna tuxedos during the big event. Kim and Kris requested that their guests follow a black and white dress code, and Avril Lavigne, Julianne Hough, Ciara, and others adhered to the couple's wishes. Julianne arrived in black with Ryan Seacrest, who said that "Kim looked regal" as a bride, and Avril stayed close to her boyfriend and Kim's stepbrother, Brody Jenner, in black.

Kris wore a white Ermenegildo Zegna tuxedo jacket and black pants while his groomsmen were in black tuxedos. Kris proposed to Kim with a 20.5-carat diamond engagement ring on May 18th, which was caught on tape for Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and the couple quickly began planning their nuptials. Today's festivities were also filmed for the reality series, and the event drew lots of high-profile well wishers, including Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz, Venus and Serena Williams, Demi Lovato, and Kathy Lee Gifford. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
