- Don the Beachcomber was born on February 22, 1907 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. He was an actor, known for Hell's Half Acre (1954), South Seas Adventure (1958) and Screen Snapshots: Hawaii in Hollywood (1948). He died on June 7, 1989 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.
- Acknowledged father of the tiki restaurant/bar craze that swept America in the 1940s and 1950s. Opened his first Don the Beachcomber restaurant in 1933. His Zombie cocktail (a rum drink) was served at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
- Awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star while setting up rest camps for the 12th and 15th Air Forces during World War II.
- Legally changed his name to "Donn Beach" after years of being called Don the Beachcomber.
