Using music as a plot device, first-time director Choi Jung-han puts dreams and friendships under the scanner in his debut work “Galaxies”.
Eun-soo, Eun-ha and Dong-eun are three friends who form the band Eun-Ha-Soo, literally “Galaxies”. Eun-soo and Eun-ha are a couple who ran away from a music production company to showcase their individuality but, not least because of their age and said individuality, labels find them highly unmarketable and the three struggle to make ends meet. When Dong-eun, who is known to chronically invest in bad stock, takes and invests the band's savings, loses it all and runs away, the angry Eun-soo and Eun-ha, who had let him stay in their apartment when he fell behind on rent, take an old guitar of Dong-eun's and sell it on a marketplace. However, when Dong-eun returns with the money, they must trace back the guitar, which holds a lot of sentimental value to Dong-eun,...

Now that Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) have survived their wedding—it was a close call for the groom!—are they getting a break on 9-1-1? It may be surprising, but yes! After their latest trauma, “they’re going to have some wedded bliss, I think, for the rest of the season,” Choi tells TV Insider. “They’ve had enough that was traumatic for this season. We’ll wait until Season 8 until they throw some more curveballs.” Hewitt notes that finales usually wrap up unfinished business for characters, but “we don’t have anything. For the first time, we’re just peaceful and things are good. I was like, ‘What are we going to do in the finale? We have nothing.’ And I think that that’s kind of great. For the first time, we’re just sort of solid and the emergencies are going to happen around us,...

The Madney wedding day was far from the day Chimney and Maddie envisioned when they decided to say, "I do."
After the big tease at the end of 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 5, Buck and Eddie showed up to the Madney nuptials, looking like they'd had one wild night, and Chimney was nowhere to be found.
9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 6 picked up from that crazy reveal, and the hour subsequently filled in the missing pieces from that night before and answered the question so many had on their minds: where's Chimney?
Kenneth Choi has been with the series from the beginning, lending tremendous warmth to the ever-charismatic firefighter/paramedic, and Chimney has come a long way from the man we met in 9-1-1 Season 1, who was in a failing relationship and would almost lose his life.
Since then, he's met the love of his life, had a child, gotten engaged, and...

Horror, long a staple and favoured genre for Asian filmmakers, has seen dwindling returns in Korea of late. Sure, there's a number of works in the genre that come out each year, but none have made quite the positive impact on the audience, critics or the box office since “The Wailing” all the way back in 2016. Director Jang Jae-hyun seems to have made it his mission to keep horror alive and kicking, debuting with “The Priests”, a well-made tale that explored Christian exorcisms, before following it up with “Svaha: The Sixth Finger”, which explored new religions and cults in the guise of horror. While both those features saw mixed reactions from the audience, Jang continues to produce scary stories with “Exhuma”, his latest work which debuted at the Berlin Film Festival before a wide release. Received with much enthusiasm from the audience, the release quickly became the highest grossing Korean film of 2024 so far.

Additionally, Seung-Gyu was finally killed off at the end of episode 13, and it seems the body count is going up for the Kwons. Jae-Won may be spiraling further since things aren’t really going her way just yet. I suppose we’ll just have to wait till the end of the show for her actual happy ending. On the other hand, Te-o seems to be overprotective of the woman, and she is absolutely unbothered. My Happy Ending is a melodrama spanning 16 episodes. I suppose at this point it feels a little bit stretched out because there were a lot of things that were forgotten amidst the show’s messy plot. The two-week gap may have also had an impact on my perception of the show, but these latest episodes seem to be quite boring and honestly feel like they’re going in circles. I feel like this show could’ve easily been wrapped up in 12 episodes, leaving Jae-Won with an actual happy ending, but at this point, it almost seems impossible. Additionally, having this father-daughter duo as the antagonists also feels a bit uninspired, making the show more old-school than the modern picture it’s trying to paint while addressing mental health. Additionally, it’s also clear now that that side of things is only here as a plot device, and it’s just getting worse by the episode.

The concept of the quarantine movie was actually one of the newest trends during the two years the pandemic raged around the world, with a number of filmmakers turning to these social-distancing measures in order to present their new works. It seems, however, that we are not completely done with the particular approach, as still some movies that were shot during lockdown are coming out while others implement the style in different, more diverse styles. Whether it belongs in the first or the second category, “Livestream” definitely has some elements that make it stand out.

Films about cults, although a phenomenon that has tormented particularly countries like Japan and Korea, are not exactly so common, despite the fact that some great titles, as in the case of “Rebirth” by Izuru Narushima do exist. One of the leading actors of his generation, Korea’s Choi Min-sik is tackling his first TV role in some 25 years, with Disney+ crime drama series “Big Bet.” Choi says the gamble was a challenge, but ultimately worth the risk.
While he has notched up iconic cinema roles in “Oldboy” “Shiri,” “I Saw the Devil,” Luc Besson’s “Lucy” and all-time Korean box office record holder “Roaring Currents,” Choi’s last significant TV role was in dark comedy “The Moon of Seoul” (aka “Seoul ui Dal”) in the 20th century’s pre-streaming era.
Choi says that the changes in the TV industry are palpable and mostly for the better.
“Dramas are now produced entirely in advance of broadcast. Before, we would have what we call ‘on-the-spot’ scripts. They would be literally written on the day of filming, which left very little time to memorize the lines,” Choi told Variety.
