Most animated shows have a general idea of what their characters are going to be when they start casting, but in the case of the Fox family sitcom "Bob's Burgers," they actually worked in reverse. The series went backwards by starting with a cast in mind and then created the Belcher family inspired by the cast and their specific talents. It's a pretty unique way to create a television show, but it worked great because the voice actors each bring so much to the table that the show actually uses a mixture of written script and improv to bring the Belchers to life, something very few animated shows would ever even attempt.
H. Jon Benjamin is perfect as the family's fumbling but loving patriarch, Bob, while John Roberts somehow manages to change his voice to the perfect pitch for Bob's wine-chugging, song-singing wife Linda. It's not super unusual for voice...

What We Do In The Shadows will end with its upcoming season 6, it’s been announced: more on the news here.
What We Do In The Shadows began life as a feature film in 2014, written and directed by Flight Of The Concords star Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The latter of those two has gone on to direct Jojo Rabbit and has become a creative force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directing Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, infusing the franchise with his signature humorous approach (even if he took the job to keep food on the table.)
What We Do In The Shadows inspired two television series. The first was Wellington Paranormal, which began in 2016 and followed police officers Minogue and O’Leary, played by Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary respectively, who were minor characters in the film. It ran for four seasons from 2018 to 2022.

FX‘s vampire roommate comedy What We Do in the Shadows, inspired by the 2014 film of the same name, will officially end with its upcoming sixth season. Created by Jemaine Clement and inspired by his film of the same name with series executive producer Taika Waititi, What We Do in the Shadows debuted in 2019 and has delivered five seasons full of laughs as the mockumentary-style comedy follows the exploits Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), energy vamp Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and their human familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén). (Credit: Russ Martin/FX) In Season 5, The Guide (Kristen Schaal) boarded the comedy full-time, playing an integral role in many of the larger plots at play in the now-penultimate season. Executive producer and series director Yana Gorskaya told TV Insider in August that the team behind the show had been in the “early stages” of getting Season 6 when the strikes began.

If someone has to say it, I will: There are not enough genuine romantic comedies on television. That’s why the charming British import “Starstruck,” about a 20-something woman who works in a movie theater embarking on a relationship with a famous actor, is a breath of much-needed fresh air.
Created by New Zealand comedian Rose Matafeo and written by Matafeo, Nic Sampson and Alice Snedden, the series is exceptionally funny and surprisingly heartfelt, balancing elements of screwball comedy with nuanced observations about love, friendship and growing up. The six-episode third season, which is now streaming on Max, picks up two years after Season 2 and finds Jessie (Matafeo) and Tom (Nikesh Patel) have gone their separate ways only to regularly be thrust back into each other’s lives by their now-overlapping friend circles. The result is a season that underscores healthy relationships and maturity without ever losing the sense of...

Initiations are a delicate dance. If the welcome party is too genial, too forthcoming, or too needy, they can come across desperate, phony, or otherwise off-putting. But if greeters go the other way, it can feel like draconian hazing (at best) or outright hostility (at worst). [Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers for “What We Do in the Shadows” Season 5, Episode 10, “Exit Interview.”]
After the Season 5 finale, “What We Do in the Shadows” has changed forever.
Or… will it stay exactly the same? Throughout the series, the FX comedy’s writers have proved how adept they are at maintaining equilibrium without sacrificing sitcom shenanigans and character development. Episode 510, “Exit Interview,” drives this home spectacularly, but realigns the show’s central mission moving forward.
For as long as there has been “What We Do in the Shadows” — literally since Episode 101 — Guillermo de la Cruz (Harvey Guillén) has wanted to be a vampire. Even when he found out he had Van Helsing blood, when he killed other vampires to save his friends, he remained loyal to Nandor (Kayvan Novak) through 13 years of service with exactly one goal at the end of it.
Not anymore.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows, Season 5, Episodes 9 & 10, “A Weekend at Morrigan Manor” & “Exit Interview.”] What We Do in the Shadows uncovered some mysteries and raised new questions in the final Season 5 installments, setting an intriguing new stage for the forthcoming (but delayed) sixth season, primarily for Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) and Nandor (Kayvan Novak). In Episode 9, “A Weekend at Morrigan Manor,” The Guide (Kristen Schaal) informs the vampires that they’ve received an exclusive invitation to visit Perdita Morrigan, a famous figure in their world. When they arrive at the mysterious vamp’s mansion miles from their Staten Island abode, no one is home, but an Agatha Christie-like scheme unravels as the visitors partake in “Perdita’s” itinerary. Little by little, they fall into traps set carefully by The Guide who has otherwise been ignored by the posse all season long. She reveals herself to be the maker of...

This article contains spoilers for What We Do In The Shadows season 5 episode 10.
There may be more to the title of What We Do in the Shadows’ season 5 finale than meets the eye. Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) makes some major changes in “Exit Interview,” and Colin Robinson’s (Mark Proksch) questioning means more than just how much the Staten Island vampires will have to pay his successor. The familiar and bodyguard with the Van Helsing DNA makes a choice, but now he has to live with it until he dies a natural death.
What’s Up With Guillermo’s Beard?
Vampires are immortal, spending their nights eternally frozen at the moment of death. They no longer breathe; they only consume blood, they don’t pump it; all their bodily functions cease. In Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire novel, Claudia rebels against her vampiric nature, defiantly cutting off her hair...

Next year’s Emmy voters already have the unenviable task of choosing between a handful of “The Bear” performers for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, but it’s not too early to consider Doug Jones, who returned to “What We Do in the Shadows” this week for a truly impeccable turn as Baron Afanas.
Jones has played the ancient vampire ever since the pilot, when he was unrecognizably made up to look emaciated and decaying. It’s rare for any actor to be able to portray the same character in such varying physical forms, and gives Jones the opportunity to test out different vocal choices and body language, all of which pay off throughout the series. Before being accidentally fried in the sun by Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), the Baron moved with slow grace, intimidating fellow vampires not only with his age and stature but with an outward appearance...

"Bojack Horseman" is one of the best shows of all time about bad people. Its titular character, a washed-up, alcoholic celebrity horse (Will Arnett) whose solipsism knows no bounds, is written not as a flimsy caricature of a toxic celebrity, but as a beautifully, horrifyingly three-dimensional person. Bojack's many demons live uneasily alongside the better version of himself he's always so sure he's about to become. Yet as the series unfolds across six searingly satirical and deeply emotional seasons, it eventually becomes clear that no gesture or promise to change will fix everything he's chosen to break again and again.
The series asks and often answers tough questions about accountability and change. While it eventually dives deep into Bojack's traumatic family history and the psychological factors that have led to his worst bad decisions, the show never lets its humanizing elements serve as an excuse for the pain he's caused.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows Season 5 Episode 5, “Local News.”] What We Do in the Shadows brought its vampires into the light…. of a newsroom studio in its latest installment, “Local News,” after the roommates found themselves in a dicey situation. It all began when Nandor (Kayvan Novak) began oversharing information about himself to a local reporter who was broadcasting about a water main break on his street. With Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) out of the house saying goodbyes to his unsuspecting family, the vampires only made matters worse without him around to guide their actions. What unfolded was the booby-trapping of their home by Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) to protect it from humans, the creation of a nine-step plan by Laszlo (Matt Berry), a blonde makeover for Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and unhelpful assistance by the well-intentioned Guide (Kristen Schaal). Helping to create this chaos onscreen was episode director Yana Gorskaya,...

Early in her set at Los Angeles’s Greek Theatre, Tori Amos reminds the star-studded audience—including Olivia Rodrigo, Kumail Nanjiani, and Kristen Schaal, among others—that the songs from her solo debut, 1992’s Little Earthquakes, were written not too far away from Griffith Park’s historic amphitheater. The implication, of course, is that we’ve come a long way, boy. More than 30 years later, the singer-songwriter is still performing for adoring crowds of thousands, many of whom, as teens or young adults, trauma-bonded over songs like “Me and a Gun” and “Silent All These Years” but are now a little grayer around the temples.
Amos herself doesn’t look much different, wildly whipping her crimson hair around as she precariously straddles the stool between her Bösendorfer and electric keyboard. Her voice, however, is noticeably hoarse—a fact that she doesn’t acknowledge aside from a brief moment when, during the second verse of “Crucify,...

Any comedy that reaches Season 5 has some leeway to get weird, but the definition of “weird” on FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows” is as wonderfully wild as the series itself. The third episode, “Pride Parade,” barely even pretends to be about the vamps helping Sean (Anthony Atamnuik) put on a pride event that will boost his election profile. A not insignificant portion of its runtime is devoted to Nadja’s (Natasha Demetriou) doll’s quest for sex.
No, really.
See, Nadja’s physical body is pure vampire — as opposed to Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), who still seems to be stuck in the transition from put-upon familiar to creature of the night — but Nadja’s human spirit has been trapped inside her beloved doll, creepily animating it and contributing confessionals since Season 2. Doll Nadja hasn’t just been existing inside a plastic shell, either, but also with the fact that she died a virgin.

This article contains spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 3.
Staten Island isn’t known as the most progressive of the five boroughs of New York City. Sean Rinaldi (Anthony Atamanuik) wants to change that in What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 3 “Pride Parade.” If elected as Staten Island Comptroller, he promises a platform which can support everyone, and the installment is titled for his most ambitious plank.
Sean is so inclusive, he is not content to draw the Lbgtq+ communities, he wants to appeal to the LMNOPs. To do that, he needs donors who bring A, B, and O, positive and negative, to the voting booths. It’s the kind of infusion only Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), can bring to heat the chill reception expected at a wintertime, after hours, pride parade on the streets of Staten Island.
