Heracles, or Hercules in the Roman interpretation, is probably one of the most recognizable figures of ancient mythology. In fact, along with the Mesopotamian Gilgamesh, the stories associated with Hercules are among the oldest representatives of adventure fiction that still have a significant impact on pop culture.
But obviously, given the mythical nature of the life of the famous ancient Greek hero, many movies and shows about Heracles were set in the fantasy genre and therefore did not care too much about historicity. But is this really the case, or did some filmmakers still try to convey period-accurate aspects?
Renowned Dutch historian Dr. Roel Konijnendijk, who specializes in classical Greek warfare, has evaluated a number of battles in films about antiquity, and one of them was 2014's Hercules, in which Dwayne Johnson took on the titular role. This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
“They shall know my Inferno!” cries the Goblin Queen early in X-Men ’97‘s third episode. Now, the Goblin Queen has had a rough day, which began with her thinking that she was the real Jean Grey and ended with the revelation that she was a clone created by evil (but fashionable) geneticist Mr. Sinister. Her heel turn came so quick that she really didn’t have time to workshop her villain monologues.
Whatever the shortcomings in her baddie banter, the Goblin Queen makes up for it with evil powers. She immediately begins transforming the X-Mansion into a Hellscape, complete with a giant head in an elevator and a vision of Xavier as a monster from the anime classic Akira. Wild as these transformations are, they have nothing on the comic book storyline that inspired it.

Myths, legends, religion and history are heavily utilized when creating the stories found in all genres of anime. Dozens upon dozens of myths and legends were used to build the characters and plot of Jujutsu Kaisen , for example, and this anime is far from the only example. In Berlin with “The Roundup: Punishment,” part four of the action movie series that he created and stars in, the larger-than-life Korean American Don Lee finds himself simultaneously in multiple timely and lucrative businesses.
These include the Marvel superhero business, the Korea-to-Hollywood remake business, “The Roundup” franchise and its multiple spinoff possibilities. Lee may even be in the business of saving Korean cinema, which is currently having one of its periodic wobbles.
“What we have to do is make really, really fun entertaining movies. Put them in cinemas, so that everyone will come back to the theaters. One of my goals is to entertain more people,” Lee told Variety on the fringes of the Berlin Film Festival, where “Punishment” has its world premiere as an out-of-competition gala screening.

Badland Hunters is Netflix’s latest entry into the world of Korean cinema, and it makes for a gritty post-apocalyptic actioner featuring one of Korea’s biggest stars, Don Lee. However, there’s some confusion about whether it’s a sequel or not. Last year, one of Korea’s biggest blockbusters was Concrete Utopia. Critically acclaimed for its dystopian vision, that film was a tour de force for veteran lead actor Lee Byung-hun. It also won numerous Korean film awards and was South Korea’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category for this year’s Academy Awards. However, it did not make the shortlist.
Concrete Utopia is about a devastating earthquake that reduces Seoul to rubble. Everything is in ruins except the Imperial Palace Apartments. The apartment dwellers covet their resources and keep outsiders out, building a utopia lead by Yeong-tak (Lee). The film was lauded for its keen observations on power,...

"Reacher" is one of the best action shows streaming or airing anywhere, and Alan Ritchson was born to lead it.
Ritchson perfectly embodies the hulking, often sardonic, always stoic boots of Jack Reacher, the former military police officer who now wanders the United States as a vagabond who only stops to enact bloody violence on the unjust and the corrupt. Author Lee Child created a character of mythological proportions -- a vengeful, righteous piece of modern American folklore come to life -- and it's increasingly impossible to imagine another actor in the role. Ritchson's physicality is key, but so is the innate intelligence that powers that physicality (he always finds the correct evidence to lead to the proper heads to stomp). It's one of hell of a performance in one hell of show.

Upon its debut, ‘Eternals’ signaled a shift in the MCU’s direction. Despite the film facing mixed reviews and box office challenges, it was often praised for its ambition, though criticized for introducing elements that weren’t further explored. While some viewers found it refreshing, blending cosmic and mythological themes, others felt it fell short. Despite the uncertainties, there are rumors from a reliable source, Daniel Richtman, suggesting that an ‘Eternals’ sequel is in the early stages of development.

Upon its release, ‘Eternals’ marked the change of direction in the MCU, and despite the movie receiving mixed reviews and bombing at the box office, it was often described as ambitious and sometimes incoherent due to many elements introduced, which were subsequently never used again.
Some viewers considered the movie a breath of fresh air and appreciated the themes that mixed cosmic themes with mythologies, but some felt that the movie didn’t quite hit the mark. Still, it seems that ‘Eternals’ was ambitious enough to warrant itself a sequel. Nothing has been confirmed so far, but a source of reliable scoops and leaks, Daniel Richtman, claimed that the sequel to the movie is in early development.

It all started back in 2017 with “The Outlaws” (known as “Crime City” locally), the South Korean crime film starring Ma Dong-seok (Don Lee) as detective Ma Seok-do. It took five years before its sequel, “The Roundup” (“Crime City 2”) came out and it went on to become the highest grossing film of 2022 in South Korea, taking in over US$101million. A third installment, another smash hit, “The Roundup: No Way Out” (“Crime City 3”) quickly followed a year later with Ma returning as the beast detective leading a new team fighting more crime again.
It has been seven years since the events of the previous film, and detective Ma, after his promotion, now works for the Metropolitan Investigation Unit. While investigating the death of a woman believed to be a suicide case, he learns from her autopsy that she has in fact died from an overdose and a new drug known as Hiper is the cause.

Three weeks have passed since the events from Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 1.
Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 7 brings us full circle with the scene in the confessional. It makes much more sense now than it did then, especially since John explained precisely what drives his episodes to Hailey.
At this point in the story, as a penultimate episode, it feels like we're at the end of a very long pilot, don't you think?
The three-week wrap-up hit home how little has happened so far in Rabbit Hole Season 1.
The gist of it is that John lost his crew and his best friend, gathered a new, unlikely crew, and finally learned he could trust his father. Looking back, it's been rather exposition heavy, bringing us and the newbies -- Homm and Hailey -- up to speed.
That said, it's been an enjoyable ride. The concepts presented in Rabbit Hole...

Beginning with the thesis statement “does anything really last,” Ian Chaney’s obsessive inquiry The Arc of Oblivion wonders if the act of archiving is really a folly. This leads to exploring natural methods of archiving around us, from limestone layers to synthesizing digital data into DNA. Chaney starts with a problem facing indie filmmakers and obsessive autobiographers: hard drives and digital video fail easily. Although not explored by Chaney, master filmmakers like Martin Scorsese insist on making physical 35mm prints of films they shot digitally and storing them in salt mines rather than on corruptible servers or digital physical media.
A sweeping, often playful odyssey, The Arc of Oblivion seeks out expert help in exploring the nature of archiving, including the gatekeepers who decide what is important to keep record of. Haunted by the spirit of lost footage he filmed one evening while on his parents’ farm––while he...

1977's "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" was a huge hit when it came out. In other news, the sky is blue. Part of its appeal was, despite featuring sentient droids, villains in very large and oddly-shaped helmets, space battles, and a battle station that could destroy a planet in moments, it was ultimately a simple tale. Whatever trappings were around the main characters, it was really the story of a young man who dreamed of adventure. He met a guide (Obi-Wan Kenobi), saved a Princess (Leia ... though one could argue that she saved him), and found a roguish friend (Han Solo) who pushed him to do better. He battled evil (Darth Vader) using the power of his mind and belief in himself to win the day. Marvel Comics' new "Eternals" title written by Kieron Gillan and illustrated by Esad Ribic, in support of Marvel Studios' upcoming live-action "Eternals" feature, starring Angelina Jolie, will now launch January 2021:
