Not content with spinning the Marvel Cinematic Universe off into the realms of TV, Marvel is now adding to one particular series, animated multiverse tale What If…? with a set of novels. The first to emerge will be one featuring everyone's favourite trickster god, Loki.
Written by Madeleine Roux, the first tome, What If…? Loki Was Worthy: A Loki And Valkyrie Story, the story sees Loki changing the events of Thor and leading to the death of his brother. The resulting changes see the Avengers' story greatly altered and Loki banished to Earth. But a chance for redemption offers itself.
That book will hit shelves on 12 March next year, followed by What If…? Wanda Maximoff And Peter Parker Were Siblings by Seanan McGuire in July and then What If…? Marc Spector Was A Host To Venom by Mike Chen in October.
Paper versions will arrive via Del Rey UK, Random House...

The follow-up to Classic Monsters Unleashed, Shakespeare Unleashed is a horror anthology that features new, original stories from Joe R. Lansdale, Ian Doescher, Seanan McGuire, Cullen Bunn, Jonathan Maberry, and more! Now on Kickstarter, I caught up with editor James Aquilone to talk about the origins of this unique horror project, working with this talented group of creators, and future plans!
Following the success and release of Classic Monsters Unleashed, what inspired you to reimagine Shakespeare’s works as short horror stories (and sonnets) in Shakespeare Unleashed?
The success of Classic Monsters Unleashed caught me by surprise. I had thought of it as a one-off, but then people kept asking me if I was going to do another book. So I started thinking what an Unleashed series would be and what other literary or fictional universes we could delve into. I didn't want to do just another monster book or Classic Monsters Unleashed II,...

Seasonal Fears by Seanan McGuire

Publisher’s summary: The king of winter and the queen of summer are dead. The fight for their crowns begins!
“Melanie has a destiny, though it isn’t the one everyone assumes it to be. She’s delicate; she’s fragile; she’s dying. Now, truly, is the winter of her soul. From the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to Everything Everywhere All at Once, viewers are fascinated by the multiverse. When the mirror breaks and possibilities spin off into space, who will you be? What do other versions of yourself and your world say about the real world?
Science fiction and fantasy books have a long history of multiverses. The subgenre of “portal fantasy” requires universes next door, often approached with almost worshipful solemnity rather than Everything Everywhere‘s soft, absurdist humor. Some feature alternate versions of the same people, while others do not. We’ve tried to screen out pure time travel or alternate history here, while also breaking away from the complex multiverses of actual franchise fiction.
Here’s our list of a variety of multiverse fiction as varied as the worlds they portray:

Exclusive: After aggressively pursuing rights, Paramount Pictures has preemptively acquired the Wayward Children fantasy book series by Seanan McGuire. With six books already published and a seventh installment coming in early 2022, the studio plans to build a franchise around this universe of characters and stories.
Sources say Paramount’s Motion Picture Group president Emma Watts has had her eye on the series for some time and was hands on in making sure the studio landed the rights. Insiders say the studio views the series as a possible franchise given the huge fanbase that is behind it, and add it has already drawn interest from top talent to be a part of it.
The series adaptations will be produced by Pouya Shahbazian. The series takes place in Eleanor West’s School for Wayward Children, a boarding school for people who have returned home from magical fantasy worlds and have trouble readjusting to their old lives.

The world may be upside down, but the Hugo Awards are forever! The Hugos are the longest-running fan-voted awards in the genres of science fiction and fantasy, first bring presented in 1953. The awards are generally given out during the World Science Fiction Convention, which is in a different host city every year. Sadly, the 78th Worldcon, aka CoNZealand, set to take place in (you guessed it) New Zealand, will have to be virtual this year. The Hugo ceremony will therefore also take place online.
Today, CoNZealand announced the finalists for this year’s Hugos, voted on by 1,584 people, who submitted 27,033 nominations. Those who were members of last year’s Worldcon, An Irish Worldcon, and members of this year’s Worldcon, CoNZealand, were eligible to vote, however, only CoNZealand members will be able to vote on the final ballot and choose the winners. I’m a huge fan of Spider-Gwen. At first drawn to the look of the character, which is easily one of the best designs to have come out of Marvel in years, it turned out she was, across numerous books, a well-written and well-formed character too. Like Peter Parker, Spider-Gwen was flawed, more human than super-human and she also had her own troubles.
Skip forward to the huge spider-verse crossover Spider-Geddon and Spider-Gwen’s story was re-written somewhat. And she was officially rebranded as Ghost Spider – fitting given the look of her costume. This new iteration of the character got a brand new book to go with the new name, the somewhat clumsily monickered Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider. The first few books of this series tie directly into the Spider-Geddon storyline, but come book 6 and this comic comes into it’s own. Shame then it had to end with issue 10…
