International K-Drama Day: From The Glory 2 To Moving Top 10 Must-Watch Korean Shows Of 2023 ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Korean dramas have provided a safe and comforting space to the audience over the years. Contrary to popular belief, K-dramas are not just about cliched romantic comedies, though there is nothing wrong with that, but also teach us many life lessons along the way. If K-fanatics are to be believed, 2023 has proved to be one fruitful year, with many heartwarming shows providing a feeling of contentment this year.
While K-dramas have been around for quite some time now, it wasn’t until a few years ago that Netflix, Viki, Disney+ Hotstar, and Prime Videos, among other streaming spaces, began streaming Korean shows, opening up a new dimension for global viewers. In 2023, all of these Ott giants have done a commendable job of delivering some top-notch K-dramas that have managed to swoon every drama lover out there.

When Netflix announced in April that it’s planning to spend $2.5 billion on Korean content across the next four years, on top of the more than $1 billion already spent since 2016, it made the world sit up and take notice.
In many ways, spending heavily in Korea is a no-brainer. Netflix has already had a global breakout Korean hit with Squid Game, followed by a slew of shows that may not have reached the same dizzy heights but are still international hits such as period zombie drama Kingdom, supernatural thriller Hellbound, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, about a female lawyer on the autism spectrum, revenge saga The Glory, and survival game show Physical: 100.
Of course, Netflix is not the only global streamer in the Korean content game, but it was arguably the first to spot its international potential. On a recent trip to Seoul, Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos said that 60% of its...

If you’ve enjoyed binge-watching the new Korean drama Mask Girl on Netflix over the weekend and don’t know what to do with yourself after, we thought of curating a list of adrenalin-pumping revenge thrillers that will keep you hooked. Mask Girl is unique in the way it plays with the timelines throughout the show. While there aren’t many shows that follow the same pattern, there are many that are wholly about vengeance and keep you on the edge of your seat in the same manner. Murders, debauchery, and action—we cover it all in this list.

We may never see other phenomenon like “Squid Game.” Hopefully we do. The Emmys are the kind of voting body/cultural institution that should get that yearly kind of external shakeup, just as film awards have seen non-English language productions catch fire with the public and capture awards attention. Getting to that point for “Squid Game” meant legendary word of mouth, Netflix backing, and a quality series with elements that made voting for it all the easier, a perfect Emmys storm.
But even if those lightning-in-a-bottle circumstances are seemingly impossible to recapture on purpose, the success of “Squid Game” did lay out a roadmap for other potential international hits to succeed on their own. A year after a genuine phenomenon, it seems like the TV world has largely waited for Season 2 of that show to be the next international series to enjoy that kind of success.
What if we didn’t have to wait?...

The Glory (Deo Geulloli) is a South Korean series directed by Gil Ho Ahn and starring Song Hye-kyo.
The second part of The Glory has arrived, new episodes of this new and surprising Netflix series, dark and well made. It deserves a chance, we can assure you of that much.
La Gloria is a tale of revenge: many years after being assaulted at school, a woman seeks to make the guilty pay for their crimes.
No lightness of plot, a series that seeks a balance between realism and a very cinematic formulation, with good editing, effects and very polished with regard to the shots and acting. La Gloria is a tale of revenge: many years after being assaulted at school, a woman seeks to make the guilty pay for their crimes.

Leading Korean film and TV star Song Hye-kyo will head the cast of “The Glory,” an epic revenge drama series being produced for Netflix.
The series is a change of direction for Kim Eun-sook, a screenwriter billed as the queen of Korean romance.

You might be asking yourself, " 'The Crossing 2?' Was there a 'The Crossing 1?'" Yes, there was! Over Christmas, John Woo released the first part of his epic drama in China, and now part two is gearing up for release, promising action and tears. Zhang Ziyi, Huang Xiamoing and Song Hye-kyo star in the movie that chronicles three couples and their intertwining love stories set in 1940s Taiwan and Shanghai, centered around the 1949 sinking of Taiping, which caused the deaths of over 1500 people who were trying to flee following the Chinese Civil War. Evidently, Woo was inspired by some big screen dramas of yore. Two new trailers have been released for John Woo's upcoming 2-part epic war romance film called The Crossing. The film is set against the tragedy of a capsized ferry in 1949, and it's a story of romance, war, and disaster. The movie looks like it has a huge, sweeping epic feel to it.
The feature was written by Melody Wang, who wrote Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and here's the synopsis:
Based on the true story of the the Taiping ferry that capsized on January 27, 1949 in the Baijie Strait (about 71 miles southeast of Shanghai, China), the film revolves around an epic love stories of three couples, played by Zhang Ziyi, Song Hye-kyo, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Huang Xiaoming, Tong Dawei, and Masami Nagasawa.
The Crossing Part 1 opens in December 2014 and The Crossing Part 2 opens May 2015 in China. There’s no U.S. release date yet, but I hope it gets one because I want to see this movie!

But most significant of all will be Woo getting his own "Titanic" moment, with some of the drama involving the 1949 sinking of Taiping, which caused the deaths of over 1500 people who were trying to flee following the Chinese Civil War. So yes, this is a big,...

A love story, a war film and all around epic-sized endeavor, John Woo's upcoming "The Crossing" might be his most ambitious film ever. And while we wonder if he'll find space to cram in some carefully choreographed flying doves, a new teaser has arrived for the movie, promising a story that's aiming straight for the heart. Zhang Ziyi, Huang Xiamoing and Song Hye-kyo are among the more well known names in the two-part film, which tracks three couples and their intertwining love stories set in 1940s Taiwan and Shanghai, that will involve the tragic 1949 sinking of the ship Taiping. “Lust, Caution” screenwriter Wang Hui-ling penned the script, and with the story set to play out in 3D and IMAX, this is going to be a heckuva spectacle. However, there's no word yet on when or if U.S. audiences will get a chance to check it out. Part 1 of...

Ever since 2003’s awful “Paycheck,” John Woo has stayed away from Hollywood, returning to China to helm the two-part historical epic “Red Cliff” and co-directing the 2010 wuxia film “Reign of Assassins.” Later this year, he’s set to drop the first half of his latest sweeping period film “The Crossing,” and the film’s first featurette/trailer has arrived online. Starring Zhang Ziyi, Huang Xiamoing and Song Hye-kyo among many others, the two-part film was written by “Lust, Caution” screenwriter Wang Hui-ling and centers on three couples and their intertwining love stories set in 1940s Taiwan and Shanghai and will involve the tragic 1949 sinking of the ship Taiping and warfare. So, John Woo's "Titanic"? Lasting under three-and-a-half minutes, the trailer features a lot of impressive footage —war scenes, sinking boats, swooning scenes between lovers— from the two-part film cut alongside an Epk-style interview with Woo...

Beijing Galloping Horse has set the China release date for the first part of John Woo’s upcoming epic drama The Crossing for December 2.
Starring Zhang Ziyi, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Korean actress Song Hye-kyo, the film revolves around three couples on a liner that sinks during its crossing between mainland China and Taiwan.
Woo also confirmed that the movie was delayed in 2012 by his diagnosis of cancer. He first heard the story of the ill-fated Taiping liner from scriptwriter Wang Huiling in 2008 and was moved to make an historical romantic drama that would portray events during a tumultuous time in China’s history.
“While I was receiving treatment in the States, I saw a bad film and I thought to myself, I could not just die like that. I can’t just go away without making a film which I think is perfect,” said Woo.
