Marco Brambilla's 1993 film "Demolition Man" has a pretty wild premise. In the near-future of 1996, a wildly destructive criminal named Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) is at large and taking hostages in Los Angeles. The cop sent in to apprehend Pheonix is John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), an officer so reckless that he's earned the nickname of Demolition Man. When Spartan finds and confronts Pheonix, he explodes the building they're in. They both escape, but an investigation reveals the bodies of the hostages in the rubble. Oops. Spartan didn't handle that operation very well.
As punishment, Spartan and Pheonix are both subjected to a new prison experiment. Instead of living in cells, prisoners are cryogenically frozen for decades and fed subliminal rehabilitation messages. Spartan is thawed in the year 2032, where the world is now overseen by a benevolent (seeming) right-wing cult leader who has whipped Los Angeles -- now San Angeles -- into shape.

“Why is this like a dark secret? It’s just a movie.”
Ryan O’Neal, who died this week at 82, was a smart, good-natured man who was bemused by the contradictions of Hollywood. As he nervously awaited the release of Love Story five decades ago, he respected its shroud of silence but also was perplexed by it.
“Love Story is on its own blacklist, but I don’t get why,” he observed.
The movie, of course, was the surprise hit of its year, but even the bestseller on which it was based had suddenly appeared on the “don’t talk” list.
Why the mystery?

Hollywood circa 1970 was a small town compared with the Amazon-and-Apple world of this moment, and Love Story had been preordained as an embarrassment. Every studio had rejected the screenplay, and seemingly every “money” actor had turned down the lead.

For much of the past decade, Brooklyn rapper billy woods — he stylizes his name in lowercase letters — has reigned as an unlikely hero of left-of-center hip-hop. A protégé of influential Cannibal Ox rapper Vordul Mega, he emerged just as the subterranean New York scene centered around critically lionized label Definitive Jux began to fragment. Unlike many of his peers who disappeared into CD-r obscurity, woods kept grinding with his Backwoodz Studios imprint. His 2012 breakthrough, History Will Absolve Me, arrived just as listeners — prepped by Odd Future, whimsical songwriters like Busdriver...

New York rapper billy woods and LA producer Kenny Segal have tapped Future Islands singer Samuel T. Herring for “FaceTime,” the lead single from their upcoming collaborative album, Maps.
Over Segal’s wistful, horn-based production, woods describes his life on the road in vivid detail. “They was goin’ off during Playboi Carti set,” he raps. “Now they in the halls partyin’/ Checkin’ they phones, bass shake the walls/ I’m smokin’ alone in a cardigan.”
Herring provides the chorus on the track, singing about the loneliness of touring: “Continental breakfast, stick and weave, tuck and roll/ I can’t take you with me, but I be on your phone.” Stream “FaceTime” below.
“FaceTime” isn’t the first time that the trio of artists have worked together. Back in 2019, Segal produced Back at the House, Herring’s album under his alternative hip-hop moniker Hemlock Ernst. Separately, Herring was featured on woods’ 2017 track “Illegal Tints,...

San Francisco, April 11 (Ians) Former Indian-origin Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, ex-legal head Vijaya Gadde and former chief financial officer Ned Segal have sued Elon Musk-run Twitter over unpaid legal bills in excess of $1 million.
In October last year, Musk informed Agrawal, Gadde and Segal that their employment with the company was terminated as he took control of the micro-blogging platform.
According to the latest lawsuit filed in the Delaware Chancery Court in the US, the trio alleged that Twitter has to pay them more than $1 million for legal fees they incurred while at the company to respond to queries by the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in several hearings.
Agrawal and Segal were named as defendants in the Securities Class Action in September while both still were working at Twitter.

For the past two seasons, The Goldbergs has been led by now-widowed Beverly Goldberg (Wendi McLendon-Covey). During an interview on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live Tuesday, the Bravo star asked McLendon-Covey how she feels about Beverly being a widow following the exit of fellow series star Jeff Garlin, whose character, Beverly’s husband Murray, was killed off.
“That was a long time coming, and that it finally happened it was like, ‘Okay, okay. Finally, someone is listening to us,'” she said.
Over a 12-month period, The Goldbergs had to navigate through the loss of two cast members, George Segal, who died, and Garlin, who exited following Hr investigations. Segal’s character, Pops, also passed away on the show.
