Exclusive: We have learned that New Line has picked up the feature rights to Sarah Knight’s international bestselling satirical and practical guide The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck, which Rachel Hirons will adapt for the big screen. Alexa Faigen will produce through her company, Five Quarters Entertainment.
The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck introduced Knight’s Not Sorry Method for mental decluttering, ”a system for identifying what annoys you and clearing it out of your life just as you would with physical junk that no longer serves its purpose.” The book is known for its hysterical prose and commonsense techniques—such as creating a “f*ck budget” to allocate one’s time, energy, and money toward what truly makes them happy—encouraging readers of ridding unwanted obligations and the guilt associated with saying no.

The streaming sector may be growing ever more crowded as increasing numbers of providers embrace the video-on-demand model of content distribution, but industry pioneer Netflix continues to dominate in terms of original content and more than double the subscribers of its nearest competitor, Disney+. And in March of 2020, those 62 million subscribers have a lot of compelling movies and series to look forward to, both original and imported.
In terms of weekly series, Crash Landing On You, the second-highest-rated Korean drama in cable television history after Sky Castle, and Chinese romcom Find Yourself both begin airing new episodes on Sundays in March, while the South Korean series Itaewon Class, the first project from distribution company Showbox, premieres new episodes on Fridays.

If anyone can spot a talented female lead for a romantic-comedy, it should be Drew Barrymore. The actress / producer has How To Be Single in the works and has settled on Lily Collins for the gig.Despite the title, How To Be Single is not adapted from a self-help book. The book was written by Sex And The City scribe Liz Tuccillo and focuses on a single woman (Collins) who’s searching for that special someone when she becomes jaded with the New York singles scene and heads off to learn how women around the world deal with being single. So like Walter Mitty but for dating? Probably not.The book’s protagonist is 38 years old, although she will be youth-ified to accommodate the 24 year-old actress. The film is handled by German director Christian Ditter, who has another Collins rom-com, Love, Rosie, scheduled for release this year via Lionsgate.Barrymore,...

‘Honey Boo Boo’ Producer Authentic Entertainment Turns To Kickstarter To Mount Scripted Sci-Fi Spoof
Exclusive: Authentic Entertainment, the reality-tv production company behind Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Toddlers & Tiaras, Flipping Out, etc, has turned to Kickstarter to try to raise the $350K it says it needs to pilot its first scripted program, Project Moonbase. Beth Riesgraf, Erika Christensen, Greg Behrendt, Erin Daniels, and Jenni Pulos star. Ironically, the show, set in the year 2043, is about a space administration that turns to Hollywood to finance its space base — allowing a cast of reality TV rejects to join its astronauts in exchange for the money it needs to keep the base operational. At time of publishing, the crowdfunding campaign has raised raised a little more than $10K with 27 days remaining.

The Chicken Soup For The Soul series has produced over 200 book titles, but now it's apparently ready to cross mediums. Alcon Entertainment, the studio behind films like Dolphin Tale, and The Blind Side, is now planning on producing adaptations of the long-running self-help books for both film and television. For the movie, The Hollywood Reporter says that Brandon Camp, the director and co-writer of the 2009 Jennifer Aniston/Aaron Eckhart romantic drama Love Happens, has been hired to pen the script. While it still seems strange that a self-help book could be inspiration for a movie, the fact of the matter is that we've already seen it happen three other times. First director Ken Kwapis adapted Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo's He's Just Not That Into You; then Tim Story brought Steve Harvey's Think Like A Man to the big screen; and then most recently director Kirk Jones made...

Sex and the City, the show you claim you’re totally over because it’s so annoying and materialistic but you find yourself re-watching on E! more than you’d ever admit, is 15 years old today. That’s right: It’s been 15 years since Carrie originally confidently stumbled around Manhattan and met Mr. Big, setting up women for a decade of unrealistic expectations about everything from New York real estate to how charming the average person will find a plethora of puns.

We're chomping at the bit waiting for the release of "Les Miserables." It's a story we enjoy and even though we know how it plays out, we're excited to see how the A-List ensemble cast brings their characters to life. In particular, Russell Crowe who plays Officer Javert. Crowe's recently taken to Twitter to write snippets about filming on set. Along with his voice "pinging off the rafters," he also wrote, "I know it's him, he knows I know...when I confront him tonight, I'll be all... 'Valjean...at last..we see each other plain.' #lesmis"

'My Week With Marilyn' Director Simon Curtis Decides To 'Click To Connect' With Online Dating Comedy
Aside from the rightfully lauded performances by Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh, the most impressive aspect of “My Week with Marilyn” was just how quick it took for the film to disappear from memory. A whispy vanilla meringue of a picture, those over at Fox 2000 have nonetheless spotted gold in its director Simon Curtis, and have set him up with a new romantic comedy.
Variety reports Curtis has closed a deal to direct “Click to Connect,” a romantic comedy set in the world of online dating. Written by Liz Tuccillo, the plot will follow “a collection of characters, ranging in age from their 20s to 60s, whose approach to online dating varies according to their circumstances and past experiences.”
With that logline, most will be getting a twinge of the collective embarrassments known as “New Year's Eve” and “Valentines' Day,” only now with Grindr involved, and from the past work...

This past weekend, nerd king Chris Hardwick premiered his new show on BBC America, The Nerdist (which is now available for download on iTunes and Amazon) based on his extremely awesome and successful pocast of the same name. This new version of the podcast is a variety talk show that features Hardwick himself, as well as his co-hosts Jonah Ray and Matt Mira. To no one’s surprise, the video version of the podcast was great in just about every way. Hardwick & Co. is just the second entity to successfully transfer a hit podcast to the small screen after Ricky Gervais, which brings us to a new question – are there any other podcasts that would be able to make a similar venture into the small screen? Well, I think there are at least five. Check them out after the break. The only criteria for this list is that the essence of the show would have to be...

When you have 20 minutes to talk to John Oliver, it's hard to figure out where to start. The British import has been taking maximum advantage of his opportunity here in the States, after 'The Daily Show' plucked him from the U.K. stand-up circuit five years ago to be a correspondent and writer.
Since then, he's become the Mvp of 'Tds' with his hilarious field reports, studio bits and pretty much any other way they can think of using him. He's been particularly adept at filing stories from rallies, parades and other huge gatherings, bringing back absurd quotes from everyone from Tea Party members to St. Patrick's Day revelers.
He's also made a mark in the sitcom world, playing Ian Duncan, Greendale's most apathetic professor, on 'Community.' Finally, Oliver has still been doing his current-events-charged stand-up, some of which you'll see...

[1] Though she's better known as an actress, Drew Barrymore made her directorial debut with 2009's Whip It, starring Ellen Page as a teenager who joins a roller derby team. While I wouldn't say it demonstrated a distinctive directorial style, Whip It was a solid first effort. I found the film to be genuine, funny and sweet, with strong performances by Page and co-stars Kristen Wiig, Marcia Gay Harden and Alia Shakwat. Now, Barrymore's looking to step up to the director's chair a second time with How to Be Single, a romantic comedy detailing the entanglements of a group of New Yorkers over the course of a decade. Read more after the jump. How to Be Single is based on the 2008 novel of the same title by Liz Tuccillo, who also co-wrote the self-improvement book He's Just Not That Into You with Greg Behrendt. A new report claims that Jake Gyllenhaal has begged Taylor Swift to take him back. If it’s true — should she?
Jake Gyllenhaal did a bad, bad thing by breaking Taylor Swift’s tender young heart and then callously flirting with her arch-nemesis, Camilla Belle. But a new story suggests that the gorgeous Love & Other Drugs star has seen the error of his ways and wants the country cutie back in his life. If there’s any truth to this report, should she take him back?
To be fair, if this particular story is true (though it sounds too fabricated to be possible), Taylor should be flinging her arms around her ex and screaming ‘Never let go, Jake!’ According to In Touch Weekly, the 29-year-old realized how much the photos of him flirting with Camilla had hurt 21-year-old Taylor, and immediately booked a flight to visit her in Nashville, Tenn.

Elsewhere, Chloe Moretz shared a shot of a crocheted Lady Gaga doll that her brother made. New York -- IFC on Tuesday unveiled new tagline "Always On. Slightly Off" along with a programming slate featuring such stars as David Cross, Will Arnett and the Kids in the Hall, as well as satire newspaper The Onion.
Launching this month, the new brand identity evolves IFC's focus from indie films to more original programming, especially in the area of edgy comedy. It also differentiates it further from sibling network Sundance Channel, which is also part of Cablevision's Rainbow Media network unit.
The company said the new tagline and focus reflects "the attitude of its influential 70% male audience."

Loosely based on the Q&A book from former Sex and the City executive story editor Greg Behrendt, we find eight characters all related through two-degrees of separation. There's the needy and naive Gigi (Ginnifer Goodwin) who is desperate to find a boyfriend, the cool yet aloof bar manager Alex (Justin Long) and his friend, the slightly annoying and effeminate Conor (Kevin Connolly) who's obsessed with an on-again, off-again relationship with bombshell Anna (Scarlett Johansson). After Gigi and Ben's befuddling first date, Gigi is left wondering how to read signals from guys since all of her relationships seem to be some "half-sensical" mess. Enter Ben's friend Alex who tries to explain the science of men to the downtrodden gal at his bar one night, which quickly forms into another befuddling friendship. Justin becomes a wise-sage to Gigi, who frequently calls him asking him what her suitors really mean when they say says such things as,...

Debuted in theaters on Friday, February 6, star-studded romantic comedy "He's Just Not That Into You" has exceeded expectation and taken over the top slot at the North American box office over the weekend. Earning $7 million more than second place "Taken", the film based on the popular bestseller book by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo opened with $27.9 million bow.
According to Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media by Numbers, "He's Just Not That Into You" is the latest movie led by strong female characters to have scored big at the box office, following the footsteps of "Sex and the City", "Twilight" and "Mamma Mia!". "Women continue to drive box office in a big way," he said. "And we still continue to, mistakenly, underestimate the power of the female audience."
While this week 80% of the audience was female, Warner Bros. domestic distribution chief Dan Fellman believed that more guys will be heading to...

Despite a cold reception from critics, "He's Just Not That Into You" soundly beat its competition this weekend to arrive in first place for the week, taking in a three day total of $27.4 million. The chick-flick, an adaptation of comedian Greg Behrendt's best-selling book starring Jennifer Aniston and Scarlett Johansson, has the distinction of being the highest-grossing non-holiday romantic comedy released in the month of February, and with Valentine's Day falling this Saturday, is a strong favorite to hit #1 next week as well."We're really walking into a terrific ...

North American movie goers showed some love for the romantic comedy He’s Just Not That Into You this weekend, giving it a chart-topping estimated $27.5 million. Well, mostly American women. 80% of the audience was female.
The titular phrase started on an episode of HBO’s Sex and the City, which saw its own successful theatrical adaptation last summer and a sequel on the way. “Not that into you” then jumped to a best-selling advice novel by Satc contributors Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo (before becoming the topic of discussion on a short-lived talk show for failed comedian Behrendt). The self-help book sold over 2 million copies thanks to an appearance on Oprah’s show.
Now it has translated to big screen success, packed with a who’s who list of under-40 A-list actors like Drew Barrymore, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston (her second straight #1), Kevin Connolly, Justin Long and Scarlett Johansson. The...

If you’re a dude, you may end up getting dragged to see He’s Just Not That Into You. Odds are it won’t be that high on many guys’ lists this week, with Push for the action junkies and Coraline for anyone who grew up with The Nightmare Before Christmas clamshell on their VHS shelf. But that’s not to say Into You isn’t worthy of your time – in fact, it’s fairly great if all you’re looking for is a story about people. While going well beyond the two-hour mark may put off a good portion of the audience, it’s not quite the sprawling relationship epic that Sex and the City: The Movie was. And it does tell a comparably enchanting saga.

The Drew Barrymore-produced romantic comedy He’s Just Not That Into You has made the jump from catch-phrase to self-help book to movie hit. With an all-star cast this classic ‘chick flick” appears to be winning the weekend after posting a spectacular $10.5M in opening day ticket sales. That should mean a 3-day start of $28.87M or so, easily out-pacing holdover Taken (Fox) and three other new wide releases. With this kind of opening, Not That Into You could reach almost $60M by the end of next weekend (a 4-day Presidents/Valentine’s combo), which would forecast a potential $90M in Us ticket sales.

Can we have a moratorium on movies based on both video games and self-help books? This is not a good strategy for artistic success. Nor does Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo’s relationship tome He’s Just Not That Into You provide fertile soil, or jokes, for the attractive young cast assembled here, hired to impersonate a bunch of Baltimore yuppies, attractive but enmired in sexual dilemmas of sometimes maddening triviality.

Never, ever, under any circumstances, should a woman try to spark romance with a guy, or even, horror of horrors, just call to ask him out.
This is the dominant theme of the 2004 book "He's Just Not That Into You" and the movie adaptation out today.
It is a theme that, as far as I'm concerned, is an absolute load of crap.
Last I checked, we live in the 21st century. Yet, this book reads like a manual of manners from Victorian England.
Addressing the issue of why a lady can't call a man, author Greg Behrendt advises women...

Speed Racer Release Date: Feb. 6
Director: Ken Kwapis
Writers: Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo (book)
Cinematographer: John Bailey
Starring: Jennifer Aniston, Justin Long, Jennifer Connelly, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck
Studio/Run Time: New Line Cinema, 129 mins.
He’s Just Not That Into You is a fiction film based on a non-fiction book of the same name, a book that aims to give some tough love and harsh truth to women looking for Mr. Right. But as I was watching the film I began to imagine that it was based on another non-fiction bestseller: Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink. With anecdotes and pop science, Gladwell observes that experts of all types seem surprisingly good at making instantaneous assessments, using a mysterious reflex of the human brain to size up a painting in the blink of an eye, say, or give a job candidate a thumbs-up or -down upon stepping into the interview.

Photo: New Line Cinema He's Just Not That Into You would be one hell of a social experiment and something I would love to see tested using CNN's political debate dial-testing as people flip flop on social dating issues as the movie plays on. Sure, the movie isn't very good, and could be conceived as an insult to all women and basically proves the chase involved in finding that perfect person is pretty much fruitless and a waste of time and causes only heart ache and misery ultimately placing you in a situation you didn't originally want to be in, but you somehow now find yourself volunteering for. Sounds exciting right? Surprisingly enough this is exactly the type of crap women apparently buy into. The idea that women bought into Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo's...

After a spectacular $1 billion dollar-grossing January for the movie industry, Hollywood trots out four new titles for the first weekend of February. The first month of ’09 was nothing short of spectacular, featuring nine releases with 3-day openings of $17M or better led by Paul Blart: Mall Cop ($31.8M) and the wide break of Gran Torino ($29.5M).
According to industry tracking, it looks like the new Warner Bros romantic comedy He’s Just Not That Into You will win the coming weekend. The early reviews are coming in a bit lukewarm (42% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes), but it doesn’t matter especially. Awareness is high and Definite Interest and First Choice numbers are exceedingly solid, especially among women.
It’s not surprising given that the expression, originally coined by comic Greg Behrendt, has become a mantra for single women everywhere. He and Liz Tuccilo were both writers on HBO’s Sex & The...

Based on the thinnest of sources—a pamphlet-sized advice book by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, itself taken from a Sex And The City episode more memorable for Charlotte's overzealous conversion to Judaism—He's Just Not That Into You unfolds into a rom-com phantasmagoria of Love Actually proportions. It's an understatement to say the material doesn't support such a sprawling enterprise: How much space can really be devoted to a straight dude telling straight women that men are simple creatures who send off clear, unambiguous signals? If a guy refuses to come up after a date ...

"He's Just Not That Into You" is a great title. Born from a "Sex in the City" episode, it's adorned a bestseller (by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo) and as a phrase has quickly wormed its way into the lexicon. Now it's got its own movie, too, opening this Friday and starring a slew of stars including Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson and Justin Long. What it does not have, at least in book form, is a story. "Hjntiy" is a dating advice book, a guide for women who can't get it through their heads that the dude they're interested in isn't reciprocating. It's long on helpful tips and sarcastic quips, but not necessarily on plot or character developments. That's an extra-heavy burden for the film's screenwriters, Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, who must fashion an entire story that can...

As Friday nears, I know what you're thinking: "Why is my girlfriend going to drag me to see that damn 'He's Just Not That Into You'?" Well, even though the new movie is based on the pretty female centric novel of the same title by comedian Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, members of the male gender will be relieved to learn the movie actually isn't afraid to take the guy's point of view in the world of misunderstood dating rituals. A true ensemble romantic comedy (perhaps too ensemble), "He's Just Not That Into You" includes many familiar faces including Drew...

"The Insider" is at the star-studded New York City screening of 'He's Just Not That Into You,' where we spoke to Ginnifer Goodwin, who talks about her experience making the new film! Ginnifer tells "The Insider" that she can definitely relate to Gigi, the character that she plays in the film. "I am Gigi," the actress admits. "I've never played a character so close to myself. I think that all of us have been Gigi at one point or another. I'm hoping we’re all a little cooler on the surface, but yes I humiliate myself on a daily basis." A big-screen adaptation of the best-selling book by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, 'He's Just Not That Into You' follows the modern-day relationships of a group of twenty- and thirty-somethings and how they often misread each other. New Line is just that into Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein.
The studio has signed the duo to pen "Valentine's Day," a love story revolving around five relationships in Los Angeles, all of which are put through the paces during the course of one Feb. 14.
"On Valentine's Day there's so much more pressure on a relationship," producer Mike Karz said. "A lot of the movie is about how that increases the tension." The relationships will run the age gamut, Karz said.
The CAA-repped Kohn and Silverstein recently penned the ensemble romantic comedy "He's Just Not That Into You," the New Line pic based on Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo's best-seller which opens this weekend.
Garry Marshall is attached to direct "Day," while Karz and Wayne Rice are on board to produce the film, which is based on an original script by Katherine Fugate. Josie Rosen is exec producing, and...
