True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

As long as humans have been passing down stories, those tales have included our capacity to transgress against each other. It’s a tradition literally as old as the Bible.
And beyond documenting how people break the rules that govern our evolving notions of society, we’re constantly fascinated by those charged with righting those wrongs. Whether it follows the detectives who investigate those crimes, those within the judicial system who determine the proper level of punishment, or the friends and family members left in the wake of these actions, this process has become the cornerstone of many of cultural touchstones.
On the TV side, for the better part of two decades when the antihero has reigned supreme, that trend is as prevalent as ever. For every harrowing situation that asks an audience “How would you react in this situation?” there are often dire consequences. There’s no simpler way...

This article contains spoilers for The Sinner season 4.
Detective Harry Ambrose’s (Bill Pullman) arc drew to an end with the final episode of the fourth season of The Sinner, closing out on a surprisingly cathartic note for a series mired in the very worst things people do to one another. As Ambrose spent much of his run struggling with mankind’s capacity to lie, cheat, steal, and kill, the story allowed him to leave us while gazing into the bright blue sky, finally at peace with what he’d seen and done.
Of a mind with that dreamy final shot, The Sinner has long leaned on a revolving cast and an ever-changing backdrop to grant physical manifestation to Ambrose’s arc. The series pulled this off by shifting from various fictional locations primarily filmed in Upstate New York over the first three seasons and changing to the likewise mythical town of Hanover,...

As production on Season 2 of HBO’s “The White Lotus” continues in Sicily, Italy, the Television Academy has now confirmed that the show’s first season will nonetheless be eligible to compete as a limited series in this year’s Emmy Awards.
The ruling comes even though original cast member Jennifer Coolidge is set to return for the seven-episode second installment of the hit series. Even though that would appear to make Season 2 a continuation of “The White Lotus,” and therefore a drama, the Academy ruled that it could still fall under its rules in the outstanding limited or anthology series category.
That’s because, according to the org, “In this case, the reappearance in a subsequent ‘season’ of one character from a large ensemble does not prohibit eligibility based on Academy’s main criteria for limited series.”
Coolidge, as wealthy hotel guest Tanya, was a supporting character in Season 1 — though,...

Has Harry Ambrose finally found some semblance of inner peace?
The series finale of USA Network’s The Sinner seemed to suggest that much: that the retired detective would be Ok once he left Hanover Island. Though it seemed unlikely that he would reunite with ex-girlfriend Sonya — she didn’t answer his call earlier in the episode — the Percy Muldoon case had taught him that he needed to find a way to cope with his lingering guilt surrounding the Season 3 death of Jamie Burns, which had continued to eat at him throughout his time on the island.

"The Sinner," the mystery series that features Bill Pullman as a very troubled detective with a great beard, is coming to an end. The ongoing fourth season will be the show's last, as network USA has decided to pull the plug. That's probably for the best at this point, because while Pullman remains a strong presence on the show, "The Sinner" has mostly run out of steam. Pullman plays Harry Ambrose, a detective who is constantly getting mixed up in disturbing murder mysteries that have unexpected solutions. The first season felt like a self-contained story since it wrapped everything up with a neat little bow....

USA Network has announced The Sinner Season 4 will bring the show to a conclusion.
“It’s been a huge pleasure and a privilege to be able to tell the kind of stories we have on The Sinner these past four seasons,” said creator and executive producer Derek Simonds.
“UCP and USA have been ideal partners and continually supportive of our creative goals, and I’m so pleased to complete Harry Ambrose’s dramatic series-long arc as we intended in this final season," the statement continues.
"A huge thank you to my partner-in-crime, Bill Pullman, and to the talented actors, writers, directors, and crew who gave their all to help realize this show. It’s been an incredible journey.”
News of the cancellation is surprising, but given the trajectory of USA Network in recent years, it makes sense.

The current fourth season of USA Network’s The Sinner will be its last. The remaining three episodes will air Nov. 17 and Nov. 24, leading to an extended Season 4 — and series — finale on Dec. 1, which will wrap Det. Harry Ambrose’s (Bill Pullman) journey.
This marks another milestone in USA Network’s original programming evolution as UCP-produced The Sinner is the last remaining homegrown scripted series on the network.
The success of a string of scripted hits, including Monk, Burn Notice, Psych, Suits and Mr. Robot, helped NBCUniversal’s USA rank as No. 1 entertainment cable network for 14 years – the longest streak in TV history — in the 2000s and early 2010s.

You can tell Harry has been out of the game for a while because of how easily he pushed his instincts aside.
Harry saw Percy jump off a cliff, but the lack of a body and the belief by family and others that he didn't see what he saw sent Harry into an investigation of a potentially living victim on The Sinner Season 4 Episode 2.
We've heard repeatedly that this season is about guilt, and it seems like Harry's guilt might be leading him astray.
But still, ol' shifty eyes can make anyone squirm, can't he? That piercing gaze takes in everything around him, and his half-smile offers no comfort to those questioned.
Harry always looks like he needs more time to process what he hears, and that processing time won't be beneficial to anyone who isn't being truthful.
David Lam is one of those people.

After watching The Sinner Season 4 Episode 1, it's impossible to imagine anyone could play Percy Muldoon as beautifully as Alice Kremelberg.
She makes connecting with Bill Pullman as Harry Ambrose effortless, and if you know how he plays Harry, you know that takes some skill.
We had the chance to chat with Alice about many aspects of The Sinner and what you can expect as the story unfolds.
What was your knowledge about The Sinner before you got the part of Percy Muldoon?
Oh, I was already watching and a fan. Yeah, I loved the first three seasons and really love how different they all are. So I definitely was a fan before I got the part, so that was a nice treat.
Yeah, that makes it a lot more fun.

Throughout the first three seasons of USA’s “The Sinner,” detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) has always had a convenient justification for when things get complicated. If the case gets too personal, if his methods lead him into dangerous territory, or if anyone questions why he’s asking strangers for seemingly random information, he always had the back-pocket excuse that he was… just doing his job.
At the outset of Season 4, there’s no job for him to do. It’s not quite accurate to say that Harry is enjoying his quasi-retirement. He’s still shaken by the events of last season’s cabin showdown, not to mention being buried alive not too long before that. Sensing that he needs a literal change of scenery, his partner Sonya (Jessica Hecht) takes the lead on a retreat of sorts in an island town off the coast of New England.

"Another story of male overreach."
Surely, those are not innocuous words. Said early in The Sinner Season 4 Episode 1, Sonya was reading them from a fable about Hanover Island.
As that's the island where Harry Ambrose and his girlfriend, Sonya, have gone to refresh after the events of The Sinner Season 3, it's hard to dismiss them.
If anybody were going to find themselves embroiled in a mystery while attempting to get some R&r, it would be Harry Ambrose.
If you watch The Sinner online you know Harry was not only deeply affected by Jamie Burns's death, but he was always just deeply affected.
On top of everything else that we had learned about him, taking that whacked-out trip that Jamie sent him on only seems to have made it worse.

I’m beginning to think Harry Ambrose is too old for this ish.
The Sinner‘s Season 4 opener picks up a year after the Jamie Burns case, and the since-retired detective (again played by Bill Pullman) is still haunted by visions of the night he shot and killed the sociopath. He and his partner Sonya (fellow returnee Jessica Hecht) travel to Hanover Island in northern Maine for some much needed rest and relaxation, but an unexpected tragedy occurs almost immediately upon their arrival. Just wait until you get a load of The Sinner Season 4 when it airs on USA Network tonight.
As Harry Ambrose, Bill Pullman leads another extraordinary cast setting up the latest mystery, and the very talented Frances Fisher plays a significant role.
Frances plays Meg Muldoon, the matriarch of a prominent family in the fishing business on the island where Harry and Sonya (Jessica Hecht) are taking a restorative vacation to flush away the horrors they suffered from Jamie Burns.
Unfortunately, it's not going to be that easy, and Meg will go head-to-head with Harry, and that means Frances knows all the good stuff about the upcoming season.
But don't worry. While Frances was kind enough to chat with us on the phone, she didn't reveal anything that would spoil your enjoyment of the season.
Frances was calling from Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she's filming a movie titled Rust with Alec Baldwin.

The last time we had the opportunity to chat with Michael Mosley, he was starring on the short-lived Fox series, Next.
This time around, he's landed on a bonafide hit with USA Network's well-received The Sinner, from executive producer Jessica Biel and starring Bill Pullman as frazzled detective Harry Ambrose.
The Sinner Season 4 finds Harry and his gal-pal Sonya (Jessica Hecht) visiting an island for a bit of rest and relaxation before Harry gets embroiled in a local mystery.
Michael plays Colin Muldoon, the uncle of a young woman on the island, Percy Muldoon (Alice Kremelberg), who gets under Harry's skin before she goes missing, sparking an island-wide search.

This article contains spoilers for The Sinner season 3.
When planned miniseries decide to expand into traditional series, they often run the risk of rendering their titles moot. Such is the case with USA Network’s detective drama The Sinner. When it opted to move past its novel inspiration’s premise to tell new stories about detective Harry Ambrose, there was a real chance that the name “The Sinner” would become vestigial.
The Sinner solved this problem by making sure that all its subsequent case subjects would be as focused on sin as season 1’s Cora Tannetti (Jessica Biel). In fact, the lead character of The Sinner season 3, Jamie, might be the series’ biggest “sinner” thus far.
As effectively played by Matt Bomer, Jamie is the ultimate example of what happens when college classes on Nietzsche go wrong. In The Sinner season 3’s first episode, Jamie is a seemingly normal (if unusually hot) individual.

Why do we love detective series so much? Perhaps our little human brains are attracted to mystery. What is our experience with the world at large if not one big mystery to uncover? Or perhaps it’s the promise of answers within that mystery that compels us so. Certainly those are big factors but one aspect of detective stories’ appeal can’t be overlooked: the detective themselves.
From a nuts and bolts storytelling perspective, there is probably no more ready-made protagonist than a good detective. A detective is like the viewer themselves – thrust into unfamiliar circumstances and then asked to use their skills of observation and deduction to figure that situation out. The appeal of a good detective story is truly elemental. And that’s why you should be watching USA Network’s The Sinner, all three seasons of which are now on Netflix.

Matt Bomer already knew Derek Simonds, the creator and showrunner of “The Sinner,” before being approached about starring in the third season of the USA Network series.
“I had met with Derek years ago when he was involved in ‘Call Me by Your Name,’ and we’d hit it off creatively and had a great conversation,” Bomer, 42, says from his home in Los Angeles during an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket.”
Before Luca Guadagnino directed the 2017 film (which later earned an adapted screenplay Oscar for James Ivory), Simonds worked on an adaptation of the source material — André Aciman’s novel of the same name — says Bomer.
Simonds and Bomer discussed the possibility of the actor playing Oliver. “I obviously loved the material; I loved talking with him about it,” he said. “I thought it had real potential. Then he went on...

USA Network has ordered a fourth season of its thriller limited drama series The Sinner, with Bill Pullman set to reprise his role as Detective Harry Ambrose. Additionally, the network has picked up two new unscripted series, Instant Family (working title), starring Nicole Walters and Josh Walters, and The Rev (working title), headlined by Pastor Richard Hartley. Both are in the unscripted family sitcom genre, which the network has been focusing on following the success of Chrisley Knows Best.
The renewal and new series pickups are part of the current programming shift at USA away from ongoing scripted series toward more live and unscripted programming, along with “eventized” scripted projects, largely limited/anthology series.
This is a programming strategy that has been gaining momentum among basic cable networks as it is becoming increasingly challenging for premium scripted series to be sustained by the linear ad-supported cable business model.

Through scheduling plans and coincidences, that day last December happened to be the final day of shooting for Season 3 of the USA series “The Sinner.” Filming the final scene between Jamie Burns (Matt Bomer) and Detective Harry Ambrose (Pullman) made for an interesting blend of urgency and focus, with a little bit of celebration on the side.

The Sinner finale stages an epic showdown between Bill Pullman’s Detective Harry Ambrose and Matt Bomer’s Jamie Burns — a showdown so terrifying that it leaves the survivor permanently scarred.
Season 3’s mind games culminate in a truly sickening turn of events. After Jamie kills Morris, he makes sure to leave one last paper fortune teller in the captain’s jacket pocket, in an envelope marked for Ambrose. The detective opens the first flap and finds Morris’ name crossed out. Other names that aren’t crossed out are Sonya, Melanie and Eli.

If there was any chance for Jamie’s redemption, it’s gone. Far, far gone.
So why is it that I don’t hate the guy no matter how horrid he’s become?
On The Sinner Season 3 Episode 7, Jamie got the second chance criminals only dream about while the walls began to close in on Harry Ambrose.
If there’s something we’ve learned through Harry’s wild behavior, it’s not that he’s half cracked himself.
We’ve learned that no good deed goes unpunished when you’re a law enforcement officer circumventing the law you’ve vowed to uphold.
Essentially, Harry jumped the gun pursuing Jamie, and what he got in return was a turn as a suspect, no matter how brief.
Let’s be honest here, what Harry did to retain a confession was crazy. Not kind of out there, but downright batshit crazy.

That was batshit crazy.
On The Sinner Season 3 Episode 6, Ambrose doubled down on Jamie's guilt by gliding under Jamie's wing and putting his life in danger.
He sure goes over and above the call of duty to get his man, doesn't he?!
To be clear, if I knew someone murdered a couple of people and was on the edge of doing it again, I'd be hard-pressed to let them wander around, and I'm not even a detective.
So if you were Harry Ambrose and Jamie Burns was like an unlit match waiting to strike, it would probably be a no-brainer to hunt the man with every ounce of your being.
And Jamie really needs to be stopped.
It's not bad enough that he's a murderer, but he's also a father to a newborn and teaches school to vulnerable teenagers seeking guidance.
No part of his life should be smooth sailing after what he's done,...
