“Shtisel” star Ayelet Zurer is set to lead a new Israeli drama titled “The Best Worst Thing.”
In the new show Zurer plays Dr Amalia Levi, a breast cancer specialist who finds a suspicious lump in her chest. As she begins her own breast cancer journey, this time as a patient, she is unexpectedly joined by Micha Hadad (Amos Tamam), a male politician who has also just been diagnosed.
“As they embark on a shared treatment journey together, fuelled by hope and fear, they discover they have more in common than a disease,” reads the logline. “Under the shadow of a ticking clock, Amalia and Micha discover that the worst thing that could possibly happen to them is also the best thing that has ever happened to them.”
The eight-part series, which will premiere on Feb. 19 in Israel on local network Keshet 12, was created by Rona Tamir, Tal Granit, and Sharon Maymon.

Skin Kligman director Ronni Thomas, executive producer Frank Szelwach, and star/screenwriter Matt ‘Ugly’ McGlade with Anne-Katrin Titze on screening in Nova Express at London’s Raindance Film Festival: “The program it’s in at Raindance is the perfect thing for it. If you’re doing a short film you should take chances.”
Ronni Thomas’s vital short, Skin Kligman, starring screenwriter Matt ‘Ugly’ McGlade with Jackie Martling as Kligman, executive produced by Frank Szelwach, is a wake-up call for awareness of what is and what is not “informed consent” and what is the real cost of your vanity. In a wide-ranging discussion we touched upon the puppets created by Geppetto Studios for the film; the experiments conducted behind the walls of the Holmesburg Prison; chiseling down the story, and the call for new voices by David Cronenberg’s longtime producer Jeremy Thomas. Strong opinions on Hollywood-type films such as...

The tear-stricken faces peering up adoringly at James Bond producer Michael G. Wilson, seated in the royal box at Royal Albert Hall, during a lengthy standing ovation at “The Sound of 007” concert said it all: It’s not just movie music — the music, for this franchise at least, is the movie.

These days, it’s difficult to have a conversation about techno without the name Nicole Moudaber coming up a time or two. The Nigerian selector and Mood Records founder has become so ubiquitous a part of the music landscape that even more mainstream dance music fans have familiarized themselves with her work – and her upcoming Ep will likely serve to expand her presence further.
Moudaber teamed up with Skunk Anansie frontwoman Skin on Breed, which promises an audiovisual spectacle for the senses. Where her last Ep, Somewhere in Our Minds, saw an exploration of funkier elements, her upcoming effort expands on her typical dark, driving sound by marrying it with subversive imagery as can be seen in the above video for “You Like This.”

Golly, they left that to the last minute, didn't they? The coaches on The Voice UK have now completed their teams after the last episode of blind auditions - but for a while we weren't sure if they'd manage it, as Sir Tom and will.i.am left it to the final two acts. Talk about cutting it fine.

We don't actually know how they found time to turn for the six final acts in between all the confetti cannon hiding (will.i.am being sheepish is the best), dancing and singing to S Club's 'Reach', and general Ricky Wilson silliness (including, er, a striptease), but they did! Read on as we assess those lucky six (and the poor eight who didn't make it...)

How would you program this year's newest, most interesting films into double features with movies of the past you saw in 2014?
Looking back over the year at what films moved and impressed us, it is clear that watching old films is a crucial part of making new films meaningful. Thus, the annual tradition of our end of year poll, which calls upon our writers to pick both a new and an old film: they were challenged to choose a new film they saw in 2014—in theatres or at a festival—and creatively pair it with an old film they also saw in 2014 to create a unique double feature.
All the contributors were given the option to write some text explaining their 2014 fantasy double feature. What's more, each writer was given the option to list more pairings, with or without explanation, as further imaginative film programming we'd be lucky to catch...

Cary Grant, Saul Bass's titles, Bernard Hermann's score, that all-conquering crop-dusting scene. Why is it that Hitchcock's biggest crowd-pleaser makes critics sniffy?
Life, most of the time, is matter of routine. We get up, go to work, pass the day as we have hundreds like it before. But this predictability is an illusion, because at any moment, the whole reassuring framework could collapse. An accident, an incredible stroke of luck, a crime: and suddenly everything has changed.
Roger Thornhill's life turns on a dime in the bar of the Plaza Hotel on 59th street, at the moment he calls over the bellboy. He's an advertising executive – one of the original Mad Men – whose anxieties centre around keeping his women sweet (with gifts dispatched by an obliging secretary), his mother happy and the Skin Glow account ticking over. But that bellboy was looking for a certain George Caplan,...

Below you will find a list of movie that Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright has never seen. Not long ago Wright went out and asked his friends and fans to recommend some movies they thought he may have missed over the last thirty years of his life. He got recommendations from Quentin Tarantino, Daniel Waters, Bill Hader, John Landis, Guillermo Del Toro, Joe Dante, Judd Apatow, Joss Whedon, Greg Mottola, Schwartzman, Doug Benson, Rian Johnson, Larry Karaszeski, Josh Olson, Harry Knowles and hundreds of fans on this blog.
From these recommendations, Wright created a master list of recommended films that were frequently mentioned. The director now wants the fans to choose which of the films on the list he should watch on the big screen.
Wright is holding a film event at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles called Films Edgar Has Never Seen.

Edgar Wright's latest epic project [1] has him partnering with Quentin Tarantino, Judd Apatow, Joss Whedon, Bill Hader, Guillermo Del Toro, Joe Dante, Greg Mottola, Harry Knowles, Rian Johnson and, probably, several of you. Like all of us, Wright has a bunch of classic and cult films he's never seen. Unlike all of us, he has the means to see them for the first time on the big screen and will do just that in December [2] at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles during Films Edgar Has Never Seen. The director of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World asked both his famous friends (some of which are listed above) and fans to send in their personal must see lists and, from those titles, Wright came up with one mega list from which he'll pick a few movies to watch December 9-16. Sony Music have announced the release of Sucker Punch: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on March 28th, featuring artists including: Alison Mosshart, Carla Azar, Björk, Skunk Anansie and Queen.
The audio companion to the film director Zack Snyder describes as “Alice In Wonderland with machine guns” has taken over two years to create, and saw Snyder (Watchmen, 300), collaborate with Grammy-nominated composer and music director Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge!) and composer Tyler Bates (Watchmen, 300, Californication) to select the collection of songs featured on the soundtrack, which play an integral role in the film.
Reworked versions of classic songs illuminate the soundtrack, with the film’s star Emily Browning covering “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” (Eurythmics), “Where Is My Mind?” (The Pixies), and “Asleep” (The Smiths), and stars Carla Gugino (Watchmen) and Oscar Isaac (Robin Hood) performing a sultry, musical theatre-inspired version of “Love Is The Drug” (Roxy Music). Releasing March 22nd, a few days before the film is released, the Sucker Punch soundtrack features some interesting songs and covers. I think the press release says it all, actually:
“Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300), collaborated with Grammy®-nominated composer and music director Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge!) and composer Tyler Bates (Watchmen, 300, Californication) to select the collection of songs featured on the soundtrack, which play an integral role in the film.
“Working with Marius and re-teaming with Tyler on Sucker Punch’s soundtrack was an extraordinary experience,” said Snyder. “Sucker Punch is a film created with multiple levels of reality, so this same layered construct had to be considered and applied when approaching the music. The selection of songs we chose and the various ways in which they were each re-envisioned had to add depth, dimension and meaning to the sequences they exist within. Whether or not Sucker Punch turns out to be a watchable movie – and certainly myself and Simon have expressed & debated our doubts about that issue to some length this week – there’s a good chance it will at least have a pleasurable soundtrack.
Just like Zack Snyder’s meticulously hand-chosen track list for Watchmen included an eclectic taste of iconic tracks from all kind of music era’s and genres, Snyder has once again choose a wide selection of recognisable tunes for his latest action fantasy, many of which are covers sung by the cast themselves.
Lead Emily Browning seems to be the busiest as she has renditions of The Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams’, The Smiths’ ‘Asleep’ and ‘Where Is My Mind?’ by the Pixies, though cast members Carla Gugino and Oscar Isaac also cover Roxy Music’s ‘Love is the Drug’.

"Great LezBritian" is a fortnightly stroll through the very best of British lesbo-centric entertainment and culture. Plus there will be some jolly good interviews with the top ladies who are waving the flag for gay UK.
A couple of columns ago we wrote about the British women we wish were gay, which gave rise to much debate and informed us that our readers lust after and loathe Cheryl Cole in equal amounts. Season four was the longest in the show's history with the 27 originally airing and the straight-to-dvd release of Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story later airing as part of the fourth season.
We've put together the largest collection of Family Guy quotes from the season. Here are just some of our favorites:
Peter: Everybody, I got bad news - we've been cancelled.
Lois: Oh, no. Peter, how can they do that?
Peter: Well, unfortunately, Lois, there's just no more room on the schedule. We just gotta accept the fact that Fox has to make room for terrific shows like: Dark Angel, Titus, Undeclared, Action, That 80's Show, Wonderfalls, Fastlane,...
